I think she said in her testimony that using the deeds to move the money made the transactions undetectable. There obviously must be some corrupt banks assisting in this process. I think using the deeds for the purpose of laundering the money kept the transaction below the surface level that would require mandatory federal reporting regulations. Honestly, I am just guessing.

When I was house hunting back in 2020, I came across houses that were being sold for X dollars, with the present seller having paid an incredibly lower price not long before the new sale, and a previous purchase for about the present sale price. What would appear on paper to be a loss from one entity and a gain for another, seemed like it could be a money laundering scheme. But without the details of buyers and sellers, I couldn't know for sure. Since I saw this quite a few times in the course of checking several dozen houses, it seemed like a fairly common thing. House renovation wouldn't account for this pattern since a previous buyer paid the going rate.
