600,000 Chinese students sounds like a HUGE #... until you break it down by states.
That's only 12,000 Chinese students per each of the 50 U.S. states.
California has over 600 accredited colleges. It's only an average of 20 Chinese students per each college.
New York and Texas has 400 accredited colleges. It's an average of 30 Chinese students per each college.
Florida and Pennsylvania have about 320 accredited colleges. It's an average of roughly 35 Chinese students per each college.
In many of those cases, large universities have well over 50,000 students. Texas A&M has 73,000 students. Arizona State has 75,000 students. University of Florida has 61,000 students. Ohio State has 66,000 students.
Penn State has 88,000 students.
When it all comes down to it, there are over 19 MILLION college students in the U.S. enrolled in undergraduate programs. 600,000 Chinese students sounds like a LOT... but that's only 1 Chinese student per every 31 other students, or roughly about 3% of college enrollment in the U.S..

I have the solution!
There are about 130,000 Native American (American Indian) students enrolled in colleges in the U.S.. Native Americans have a very low college admissions or enrollment rate.
We should require that EVERY U.S. college, for every 1 Chinese student enrolled, must also enroll 1 American Indian student.
That would instantly cut down the # of Chinese students in U.S. colleges to only 130,000. If universities want MORE Chinese students... or if China wants to send more students... then someone has to pay for Native Americans to attend those same colleges. 1 to 1 ratio... or forget it.

Probably to avoid bankrupting universities and soften the economic blow from resulting unemployment as he cuts down on toxic student loans and grants. Chinese students are one of the most solid parts of university budgets lately, and going cold turkey might be too much.
I'm just guessing though: hopefully he'll explain later.

Education has changed a lot since Covid. A lot of institutions will wither away, and a few places will thrive. The rest will redefine themselves one way or another. Best to let it happen gradually, imo. Besides the crazy professors and fat cat bureaucrats, they employ a ton of landscapers, residential housing employees, secretaries and teachers that teach useful things like engineering or languages.
Only it really wouldn't be helpful. Funny, maybe, but not iRL. Some people actually benefit from getting a degree.
It's easy to see the institutions as dens of iniquity, but eliminating them is just a dumb, disruptive thing to do.

The 600K student chinese visas pay full fees. Most larger universities have that as their main source of income. As a president, one cannot just wipe that out. Good, you say. No it isn't. Generally not a good idea to make such big changes unless warranted - We must remain calm and pragmatic, and business-like, and not fly into ideology (i.e. that all foreigners are bad).
Obviously, illegal immigrants are bad. They broke the law coming into the country. There is 22 Million of them , or more. We don't actually know. But plenty to be getting on with, in this presidency, and prolly the next one as well. Why go after the people who HAVE followed the law and applied for visas for a legitimate reason. Why assume that ALL 600K Chinese student are belligerents? It smacks of something not quite savory. IMO. Try and limit your thinking clearly.
Having used a US student visa myself: there are plenty of restrictions. The visa is an official invitation to come into the ocuntry. Make yourself unpopular through committing crimes, and the government can take it away. This normally makes students want to comply, because they are paying top dollar for their degree. Being expelled from the country is generally counterintuitive, and possibly a giant waste of money, and a loss of face, for them personally.
If they ARE spies, then the intelligence community should be able to provide definitive proof before deportation.
You need to go back as well. You are obviously part of the problem.

You could be the most beautiful, blond haired, blue eyed, example of master race that exists on planet earth. You still have to go back. We are full. The American worker and student has been fucked hard for decades. We have lost the most amazing standard of living that ever existed.
This was done by unfettered immigration. You. It has to end. And any of you recent freeloaders need to be returned to the 'paradise' that you came from so that maybe all of our kids have a brighter future and crazy things like home ownership. Future generations deserve better.

The American people just want the focus to be on American people for a change. The foreign people should be focusing on making their native lands great. That would lift up the entire world. America has paid its dues. America doesn't owe anything to anyone. These foreigners need to go back to their native country and work to make them prosperous. America gave the world a blueprint.

US colleges have lowered their standards so much, a ham sandwich can get into Harvard (as long as the bread is brown, anyways).
This is true, and it needs to be addressed because it is not improving the image of a Harvard degree.
Similar things can be said about Executive Programs (Ted Talks included). these have been around forever, and Unversities use them as a cash=cow. And I mean KACHing@! Usually the programs run for a couple of months, and are taught by the graduate program lecturers.
The problem is: Execs use the fact that they 'went to Stanford' as badge of honor, and nost employers are so cowed at that point, that they forget to check if it was one of those pesky Exec programs. A six-week course does not = Master's degree. But hey, no-one is gunna check, and pedes can't check, because alumni rolls are kept private. Hence, some scurrilous CEs operating in the wild. It's just so open for a bit a fraud...

Maybe we do not know the underlying plan associated with this or if it is a way to reveal other things. We can’t just look at the surface. Trump’s actions are so multi-layered. What if there are 600,000 out of billions who want to escape China? I don’t know, except I know Trump has reasons and makes moves that can be used as leverage. We just don’t know what happens beneath the surface.
