As a discerning individual, it seems to me that there is no need to take Kharg Island if Iran cannot transport oil from it due to the blockade, unless of course the plan is to offload oil and take it or sell it (with U.S. pocketing the money). Seems to me that boots on the ground (no matter from U.S. or Allies) on the island would be sitting ducks for drone swarms, and perhaps missiles, though the latter would prob be easier to deal with. If done, there will be casualties.
I think this is more of a threat to Iran’s biggest ally (China). They are very dependent on Iranian oil and their nightmare scenario is for Karg Island to be blown up causing the majority of Iranian oil to be taken offline for half a decade. A close second would be the U.S. taking control of the island and their oil supply indefinitely. I expect that this is a move to force the Chinese to exert maximum pressure on Iran to make a deal.
The need is for leverage. You take their moneymaker then tell them that they only get it back if they take the deal.
This has always been the plan, kek. In the meantime he got the enemy and their assets rushing left and right not knowing exactly what Trump was aiming at.

He destroyed all the military installations on Kharg, but it also has tons of crucial oil infrastructure which is necessary to be able to export Iranian oil.
Trump is saying that US will take control of the whole oil infrastructure.
We shelled/bombed Military installation’s on the Island.
But we haven’t officially occupied the Island yet. Though most analysts worth their salt have been predicting that’d be in the cards and likely.
It’d essentially give the U.S defacto control of the strait. Not to mention ensure significant quantities of the global oil trade passes under the watchful eyes of U.S Troops.
And since Iran did a heavy trade with China and other U.S adversaries. It means they’ll now be subject to paying higher prices instead of the sweetheart deals the Iranians were cutting them previously.
My understanding is we helped 200 ships carrying over 100 million barrels from other countries ship their oil down the coastline of Oman using dark fleet tactics and US Navy protection.
This can only mean…
…that we’ve already taken Karg Island and just haven’t hit that point in the story yet.

Tell them that WE will be taking control of the island in the near future.
Incidentally, when troops and equipment are on an island, they can be isolated and destroyed on that island.

Edit: It looks like we aren't taking their oil. We are escorting tankers of other oil-producing countries in the Gulf through the strait. This makes a lot more sense.
