The only definition that counts is that in the Bible. I gave you some verses. There are many others if you look. The verses that deal with the heart show that it consists of the functions of the soul plus the conscience, which is part of the spirit.

Paul ends chapter 7 by saying, "Wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from the body of this death." The solution then comes with the law of the Spirit of life in chp. 8.

Our soul consists of what we're thinking, feeling, and choosing. It changes through the day and our life long. After we've received Christ into our spirit, the apostle Paul tells us that we need our mind renewed (Rom 12:2). That affects everything else. Our soul is more like a function than an object.
