Thought 1: After high school, every student should go on to learn a trade they can support themselves with. Once they have that completed, if they still want to go to college, they should be able to go and pay for it themselves with the earnings from their trade. Go part time to college and pay as you go, or work a couple years and save the funds, then go full time. Your choice.
Thought 2: Universities today are mostly not learning centers, they are propaganda centers. The fastest way to get rid of them is to cut ALL federal student aid. Period. 99% of students couldn't afford to go to college as a result. You wouldn't have to waste time arguing with Congress or the state legislatures about the merits of closing universities, you just cut them off at the knees by cutting off the $$.
I left CA over thirty years ago and never looked back. One by one, all but one of my close family followed and left CA. CA doesn't even remotely look like the state I grew up in. There were a lot of people, but there were still open spaces. My high school friends were all either Japanese or white, with a few blacks and hispanics mixed in. Now it's so unbalanced with hispanics and illegals I don't even recognize it.
