Yeah I chatted with one of the people quoted in that article who IS a scientist and very, very good at what she does. She has loads and loads of questions about all of this. The article tries to paint them as amateurs just coming up with pretty graphs when nothing could be further from the truth. They are the professionals doing the heavy lifting and getting truth out there. They knew their work was being watched by the way.

The scientific method is actually a thing…considers empirical data that requires analysis and ability to be replicated before conclusions can be determined.
I believe Al Gore started the Anti-Science science thing with his "the science is settled" bullshit. It opened the door to people who fetishize "science" to where they don't give a flat fuck about what science actually is, but on neat shit scientists do and how it just lets them run riot over anyone who objects to what they're pushing. Its an easy namecall: "YOUR ANTISCIENCE!!" and then they can just repeat that until you either leave in disgust or punch them.
You don't make observations and perform tests and experiments to prove scientific theories. You do those in an effort to DISPROVE them, even your own theories. Only when many have tried, but failed at this does a theory really gain the credence to be taken seriously.
This is the sad thing about many scientists today. They allow, for example, climate changers with a political agenda to dictate to them and accept it without researching.
Scientists should be the most open minded of people. Should Copernicus or Galileo have thought, "Oh well, the Church says the Earth is the center of our universe, so I'll go with that."
Or is it better that they follow what Sir Issac Newton said,“What we know is a drop. What we don't know is an ocean.” Newton was open minded and therefore open to learning. I wish we had more like him.
