If large amounts of farmland are rendered fallow, then the remaining producing farmland will get higher prices for the food they produce. Remember Bill Gates buying up farmland? This is great for his investment.
Own farmland? Get paid for doing nothing with it. or Get paid more than normal for farming it. Gates can't lose.

In reality though, this is not uncommon and has been going on for decades. It actually happens quite often as a way to manipulate the domestic and international food markets.
The real question is, this time, how widespread is the request? I know quite a few hobby farmers (less than 5k acres) and I have not heard about the latest offerings hitting northern Indiana.
I'm not condoning it at all, but just saying this is not a revelation unless you never heard about the practice.

All he's doing is mowing a few square feet of crop for social media hits. It would take him days to mow down that whole field of soybeans using that mower.
If he really wanted to kill those soybeans he'd be out there with a disc or a spray the beans with 2,4-D.
This seems fake and gay if you ask me. Having been raised on a farm, i know first hand what it takes to put out a crop and no farmer worth a damn would go and mow their beans because the government threatened them or asked them to. Youd find more farmers setup AA than give into that crap.

what would make more sense is buying exes crops and preserving the food long term for an emergency. destroying food is just sick.
My husband retired from farming 6 months ago and he told me that the government has been doing this for decades. The gov't has also paid them to not plant crops for decades as well.

This is not true according to two farmers I talked to. It might actually be true but so far I cannot get any confirmation that says this is happening.
So these farmers have no fear that they could be contributing to a famine in our land. Couldn't they get together and sue the gov't, or do SOMETHING to stop this. Is it just about money???? Agent Orange? Are you kidding???

If he was big enough that the government cared about he would disc it under, which he probably wouldn’t do at all. Just don’t harvest it. Done.
