the hilarious part about this is it's not some organized boycott, it's just people getting sick and tired of cultist indoctrination and not participating in it anymore.

it's like some insane asshole on a public bus screaming about birds are robots and red plastic cups cause telepathic brain damage and everyone else on the bus just slowly backs away and pretends the crazy isn't happening.

if you don't make eye contact maybe they'll leave you alone.

lol

who in the fuck would want to be preached to about hating their country and themselves for imaginary made up bullshit when they can just do something else instead.

This.

For the first time in my life I haven't even thought for one second about turning on any Olympic program. It's just not even on my radar, like in an off year. I can't get excited to cheer for the USA and then if they win, to watch the athletes DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

The kneeling bullshit has people completely put off. There's one pro sport left where everyone stands and honors the flag(s) and national anthem(s). If hockey players ever start showing the disrespect that the others do in their pregame routine, I'm going to be monumentally pissed that my favorite pastime and the most dazzling spectacle of athletic coordination, speed, and skill ever conceived has been ripped away by demonic divisive assholes churning out their racist hate to keep the people divided.

I'm a Brit, but I almost wanted Italy to win the soccer Euro final because of all the Woke BLM kneeling crap surrounding the team. Irritated the hell out of me.

Apparently the coverage was a joke.

A couple comments from another site: One guy said he was going to watch some event but there was a commercial when he turned it on and after 10 minutes of nonstop commercials, he switched channels and never went back. Another person said that the commentators didn't understand the sports they were commenting on, so they kept saying stupid stuff.

They've named the hosting cities through 2032, but I think it's probably going to be dead long before then, and if it lasts that long, NBC is going to lose a the $9+ billion fortune it spent on coverage through then because the ratings are in the tank and advertisers aren't going to pay big bucks for that kind of exposure.

I didn't catch one event. (I don't watch the one eyed mind sucker) It seems by all indications that the truism "Get woke. Go broke." has given us ample evidence, via the Olympics, of what made that expression a "truism"...

What did you think of the female German coach punching out the horse?

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 13 ▼
– Taffy333 13 points 4 years ago +13 / -0

Well, I read she punched the horse, but not that she punched it out. Either way, that's animal abuse. She was just taking out her anger on the horse (and the poor horse was probably thinking the horse version of WTF). People who interact with animals as a means of stroking their own ego have no business associating with animals, and I'd say she's one of those.

▲ 7 ▼
– ashlanddog [S] 7 points 4 years ago +7 / -0

I stand corrected, I was thinking about "Blazing Saddles"(howls)... The riders where assigned their mounts in a blind draw. so this animal was not one of the German team's equines. From what I could gather, the horse was simply overwhelmed at the situation and did not deserve the treatment that it received....

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 8 ▼
– Taffy333 8 points 4 years ago +8 / -0

I agree that the horses were overwhelmed and, from what I could gather reading about the number of horses who refused jumps and/or bucked, it seemed to me that the horses were not properly trained for this sort of event. I got the impression these were all local horses, so being sent into a situation they were not properly trained for is on the people who supplied the horses, and that's animal abuse, too.

Punch even is a pretty exaggerated description given the video

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Taffy333 1 point 4 years ago +1 / -0

The article I read didn't include the video, but horses are extremely sensitive. They'll completely alter their direction or come to a dead stop with just a slight shift of the rider's seat bones, and what doesn't look like a punch to you would feel like a major assault to the horse. In fact, what the coach did WAS an assault on the horse because it was simply a factor of the coach's emotional state, and the poor horse was given the brunt of that.

They are, but I recommend you watch the video and make your own judgements than just to go by assumption. I think you're imagining something different in your head.

Oohhhh….ok. Dang. Evidently that horse gave the previous rider a similar situation. Frankly, riding a strange horse IMO is BULLSHIT. She did however, not carry herself as a professional. I would have dismounted and walked away. The Olympics is now a sh1tshow. It will be nearly impossible to recover. The American Olympic Committee should be dismantled as well. The victims of all this aren’t just the viewers, but each dedicated athlete who have mastered their art. For the Olympics to recover it really needs to be Amateurs only as intended and not any Professionals. Before the USA Hockey Team beat the USSR back in the day, every Olympics or World event our team had to face a Russian Professional team and we were always a mixed Collegiate team. That’s what made our victory so special then.

An Olympic athlete has to be able to draw on deep stores of energy to excel. I have always believed some of that energy comes directly from the audience. In my younger days as a musician, I had a day I performed 12 hours in a row because the energy coming from the audience was a real thing. I could have gone several more hours.

Now, as an Olympic athlete, what happens when you insult your home country in front of the whole world? You have only your own meager personal energy to depend on, and the world has little empathy for you when you stumble.

Back in the 60s and 70s the Olympics were huge. Everyone watched everything. It was the age of the Wide World of Sports. "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."

I've seen that the USA has done well, but I haven't watched any of it live. Saw the shot put on yt.

Honestly, I think the Communists want to ruin everything until nothing remains except the State. No family. No Church. No sports. Only what glorifies the State will be allowed.

I didn't watch but have seen enough youtube comments to know that even the big draw of women's gymnastics was a major disappointment this time. The coverage sucked. Like intentionally. They didn't show the whole competition, the commentators were annoying. This is another instance of either incredible stupidity or deliberate sabotage.

Setting aside wokeism and cable/streaming peacockery, there’s an underlying problem—Olympic sports are no longer special because of scarcity. TV in America used to only show major sports. Then more sports were viewable through cable TV channels. The world championships for various sports would be on TV outside of the Olympic years. The internet also contributed to making a lot of fringe Olympic sports more accessible.

What was once a rare novelty is now commonplace. Decades ago, people would stop everything they were doing to watch the Olympics because it was only on once every four years.

▲ 14 ▼
– BirchTBarlow 14 points 4 years ago +14 / -0

It used to be special because it was for amateurs. You watched the Olympics not to see professionals competing for money, but regular people competing for pride in their country. Now that they let pros in, it's just another competition, no special reason to watch.

Exactly, but they added a bunch of hipster nonsense like skateboarding. And have you heard, at the next Olympics they will have break-dancing as one of the sports LMFAO

people would stop everything they were doing to watch the Olympics because it was only on once every four years

The only event that still has this gravitas is the soccer world cup, though admittedly it's not very popular in the US

I am not sure how the Olympic committee in the U.S. works, but it is apparent that just like the owners of the teams comprising the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, they are way to lenient with the athletes. They need to demand more. If you are on the Olympic team you represent the U.S. You do not go rogue with your political agenda or activism without consequences: steep fine, lifetime ban from competitive sports, no profiteering from business contracts, immediate dismissal from the team and return home your expense and repayment of any monies supporting you in the competition. Same with all major sports teams. These men and women have the potential to make more money in 1 year than the average worker makes in a lifetime. Maybe it is time to put a ceiling on the salaries? There is something wrong when an athlete makes more than a soldier, police officer, fireman, paramedic who risks their lives every day. How much is to much? I would say an athlete starting out $250,000/year is a good salary and $1,000,000 per year is more than the average worker makes in a lifetime.

Watched some, but coverage was horrible, little to no commentary. Of course watching elite athletes cowtow to masks was just ridiculous. I honestly hope the Olympics dies if they are going to be woke, allow trans competitors, and push communist ideals and hatred of county oh, and love of self more than sacrifice.

It doesn’t matter that the cities lose money because it’s the politicians who want it so the can make money for themselves on graft.

I didn't watch any bit of the Olympics this year. Didn't care to see athletes that are supposed to honorably represent my country disrespect it. This article is well written. I did not try to talk anyone else into not watching, i just chose to do something else, cut the grass, dishes, clean the guns, read. I used to be into watching the Olympics because ill watch about aby sport if the competition is stiff and tight. Kinda of the same way where even if i didn't care for a sport, i would watch elimination games or a game 7, just because i enjoyed watching players really compete and give it their best. But i don't even do that anymore.

Is it even a conscious boycott? I think most people just aren’t interested. The media didn’t highlight Patriots we can cheer for. On top of that, People either believe the world is ending due to COVID or know the CCP virus is being used to strip us of our liberty. Either view overshadows the games.

They had a lot of video game music, and not just new video game music -- they had music from Chrono Trigger, which was awesome. A focus on Nobuo's wonderful brand of classical, and the mystifying Nier soundtrack(s) and some Dragon Quest and more.
