Unfortunately, it boils down to repetition of terrible ideas, social media is just the latest funnel/highway for it.
There is a hint of truth to the "don't swim after eating", because a certain fraction of your blood volume is diverted to digestion after you eat, so if you were a split second from drowning, and you hadn't eaten, you would have that last gasp of oxygen in your blood to get you to shore, whereas, if you ate three big macs and a large fry, you wouldn't make it :)
I used to comment on it by saying "How about those _____" (Insert your favorite sports team here.) afterwards if I'd get blank stares to a statement.
