First, don’t use ring. Second, don’t open ports on your system when connected to the internet. Third, use a completely separate VLAN and or Subnet for your camera system. And finally, configure a VPN to connect to your cameras. NEVER open a port or use a P2P or Cloud Service QR code connection. That’s opening you up to getting hacked
Okay I have no idea about VLAN, VPN, Subnet or the other stuff, but do need some new outside cameras and just know I don't want ring. Can you please come and help me pick out and set up some cameras outside my house? jk :) Seriously I really don't know what those things are, not very tech savvy I'm afraid.
Maybe check out Rob Braxman privacy expert and search for CC (closed circuit) systems, that don't connect to the internet at all. Old school save-to-tape or disk.
That is exactly why I will never get one. I remember about 15 years ago I had read that verizon, I think it was, had patented a TV box for your home that had a camera which would watch your family to give you personalized advertisements. I knew then a lot of tyranny was coming our way.
They do. I run a thrift store, sell lotsa used tv's, many Samsungs.
In a "dark" room, take a flashlight along the black tinted edge- you'll see the lens (not just the remote sensor) usually just off center along the bottom. Or use an infrared detector app (free from app stores).
I recall one of the first utube vids I ever watched, maybe 20 yrs ago... an appliance repair tech, perplexed, made multiple vids showing cameras in ol' school vcr's and dvd players with cameras pointed out, yet nothing in owners manual mentioning it nor suggesting its use for being there? He was bewildered enough to make a collection of vids showing various manufacturers/brands containing cams AND microphones -- all this during the pre-Alexa (& the like) days.
Was eye opening
Edit to add that there's a reason Mark Zuckerberg keeps electrical tape over his computers camera lens on his desk (some of you may recall the viral video of this fact, maybe a decade ago?)
Interesting, I'm sure Snowden only touches the edges of what's being done. I remember the BBS days and the Feds were quite active even then. Pirate boards with stolen software, but there were other sites as well...
Eh, just don't use them inside. Gotta realize they've already got everything, the minute you bought a smartphone they took control of your data. That may end soon, but it doesn't warrant removing them. You can get a CCTV system and have it on a PC that's off the network for an alternative that can work for the whole house, but it's not practical. Like I said, just don't point them inside. Go take care of your kids lol, stop being lazy and leaving them alone is my opinion.
If there was something to freak out about, it was Pokemon GO. But barely anyone did, so.
You need a photography program to see it. I use a freeware called IrfanView. This article has some instructions on how to remove it. It also takes some photography software to get at it. https://expertphotography.com/understanding-exif-data/
Quite a few years ago I saw a site in another country of live feeds from home webcams that still had the default password.
It was quite a wake up. I forgot where I saw the site though.
Closed-loop be it wired or radio transmission of the feed as long as it is encrypted and in no way shape or form even capable of wifi or of using a wifi type setup to transmit the signal or update the software.
Cheap video door-bell camera setups are often wired or with short range radio transmission and the same goes for many nanny-cams.
Basically if it says wif or online anywhere on the box it should be a nope...
Many years ago we lived next door to a young couple that had a baby monitor in the baby's room. Audio only.We could here it on a radio that my kids had in their room. I told the couple and they were horrified. It was thirty years ago. I can't imagine what surveillance is capable now.
Back in the day baby-monitors were all analog and this lack of security is the exact reason for this stuff now being digital and having at the very least a multiplexed signal(same principle as with garage-door openers and your controller only working on your garage-door) if not encrypted...
It took me a bit to catch on... With so much pedo stuff going on like in Cal. where they have basely decriminalized sex with minors as long as the gap is less than 10 years. WTF a 19 y/o can have sex with a 10 y/o child , a 24 y/o with a 15 y/o, or a 14 y/o with a 5 y/o? Insanity!
You don't think social media platforms have been secretly recording children in compromising positions and then selling them on the internet, do you? /s

Great advice!

Cameras are cheap, Samsung supposedly has mouse type for their TVs RE: Cameras in TVs
Sounds just like 1984.
1984 meets Hunger Games.

Heck I cover my computer & ipad screen camera also, have for years, some of my family does it as well.
Yep, when I saw that he had that, and then like a week or so later, James Corney also had tape, I figured we plebians had no hope of security.
Interesting, I'm sure Snowden only touches the edges of what's being done. I remember the BBS days and the Feds were quite active even then. Pirate boards with stolen software, but there were other sites as well...
I don't know what you mean by Mouse but are you saying that there is a camera inside the television screen?
Their user agreement. Mouse type is the legal crap on everything that no one reads, but you agree to.
Cameras inside TV There may be..., They gave themselves permission.
Thank the Lord the TV in my living room is at least 20 years old. 😁
You should NEVER put web enabled cams in your house.

Pokémon go was the greatest recon tool ever until starlink
Tech. is developed with controlling us in mind, or they quickly figure out how to use it for control.
Even folks posting just posting pictures should make sure the exif data is stripped from their pics.
Exif data can have location coordinates, and camera serial numbers.
Indeed. This is how Russia got all those Ukranie fighters that were taking picture.
Can you explain how people can check for that and remove it?
You need a photography program to see it. I use a freeware called IrfanView. This article has some instructions on how to remove it. It also takes some photography software to get at it. https://expertphotography.com/understanding-exif-data/
Thanks. I'll check it out.
And put the little plastic slider or tape on their laptop cameras. I will never put a camera in mybkids room

Yup, people, even security experts, are lazy at passwords. Same with electronics door locks...
Most common passwords are: 1,2,3,4 or password.

Buy a camera door for your computer camera if it doesn’t have one, and keep it closed (even when the computer’s off) unless you’re using it.
I can't see so my laptop is behind my monitor facing the other way. Giggity...
For the congress... err children!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ocK7rZJ6U5w
Could Gelinas even send an email without the aid of a personal assistant at the time?
Now why in the world would Gelinas want children to be able to share their locations over the internet? Weird...
Totally unrelated but... Does the name Michael Gelinas appear on a certain flight log?
It was satire... a fake post... watch until the end
Fuckin onion... derp..
I am an IDIOT!!

Jesus, Satire mimics reality....
Yesterday's satire is tomorrow's reality.

Waiting for the left to propose cameras in children's restrooms for the children's protection, then 5 years later justify MAPs right to view...
