The premise of the experiment is flawed from the outset, you can't make other people happy....period. People themselves, choose to be happy or not. For example, a person can be a foul mood, but someone comes to the door, or their boss calls them, or there is a person that requires a warm response, lo and behold they are instantly nice and pleasant -- they chose to change their mood; pretty much everyone has done this in their lifetime. How many people do you know, have everything great in their life, kids, good job, money, friends, yet they are just angry or mean all the time -- then on the other side, you have someone who has had nothing but a life of misery and pain, but happiness shines from them like the rays of the sun. Two different lives, one vastly different from the other, but the responses to life is different.
it is your choice how to respond to events, it is your choice how to treat other people. To paraphrase "being around someone in a bad mood, is like being around someone with BO, it is not a pleasant experience, that person could change it, if they really wanted to"
So how respond is up to you, people don't "make" you to do things, they don't make you unhappy, you make you unhappy, disappointment != unhappiness, disappointment comes from higher than realistic expectations on your part. Read "Happiness is a serious problem" By Dennis Prager, yes I have grown a little annoyed at how he views some things lately, but that doesn't take away from how good this little book is for someone to read.
it's a terrific story, but I don't believe my mission in life is to worry about other people's happiness. My family comes first, then myself.
I believe too many people expect someone else to make them happy, and don't know how to actually be happy.
Yes.
Also, I donโt believe the story. Not a single college student found their own balloon? Bullshit.
The Virtue of Selfishness
By Ayn Rand
Omg came here to type the same๐
So we should all be focusing on the happiness of the leftists, right? If not, it's hypocritical af. If so, we find ourselves in the situation we're in now.
Does any animal put another animal's happiness over their own babies? You will never find that in nature. You can try to guilt humans into putting other's wants before their own - and many will oblige to virtue signal - but the smart and truly centered ones will always protect and nourish their own first.
Thatโs conflating happiness and survival.
This.
Do you believe humans are the only ones on earth that experience happiness? You're wrong. Not every move made by an animal is for pure survival.
But to make it easier for your comprehension, I'll stick to human examples. It would make the trans couple next door happy if everyone flew rainbow flags on their homes. They would feel special, accepted, and part of the community. Do you oblige them? After all, a piece of material flapping in the breeze literally cannot hurt anyone. Do you put their happiness before yours?
That scenario doesnโt work. Flying a rainbow flag to make a trans person happy will not make Muslims happy.
Ok. That was humorous.
Humans...are not animals. We are encouraged to put others first...That way while you putting someone else first...someone is doing the same for you....IDEALLY. Pray for your enemies.... I may be casting my pearls too.
Oh, and I notice how you can't even answer my very simple question. Which proves you don't truly believe or practice what your virtue signalling mouth says. KEK
Ooooh, right. Humans are "special." How's that working out? Your ego is all puffed up because you think you're better than nature, not part of it. Pretty convenient to make simple-minded humans think they're approaching "god" by putting others first. Convenient for the ones destroying you and your families.
Stroke your ego a little more. America isn't finished burning yet.
Heaven is real. Humans are special. We are the only sentient physical beings in the universe. Dive into apologetics and youโll find the truth.
Sure guy, you're very special. Some might say as unique as a little snowflake. Haha
Humble yourself my dude and look into it closely, itโs worth it I promise.
Out of one side of your mouth comes "hunans are the only sentient physical beings in the universe," then out of the other side you admonish me to be humble.
The absolute lack of self-awareness is unreal. But sadly expected here. Good day.
Show me other sentient physical beings? Where are they?
We are special. We build and curate collaborate, memetic realities outside of nature. We impose a lazy shadow of that on actual nature and carve out bubbles where we get to ignore it. Sure beavers build damns, bugs build hives, and elephants keep graveyards, but we're the only ones that get to divorce ourselves from most things excepting birth and death.
Wearing a burlap sack and dying stoically in the wilderness or hiding in your homestead hoping to be the last little nihilistic candle in the dark is still exceptional. Even being a fucking psychopath who excels by devouring the fruits of other people's lives is special.
Get back to work little drone.
Haha do you think that parroting other people because "feels" was adding anything? Ok, I'll humor you.
Topic: We need to change the immigration laws and allow anyone from anywhere to come in. After all, the whole world deserves the American dream! His argument: put others' happiness before ypur own so yes, open our borders.
Topic: We need to send monetary aid to any other country that needs it. After all, we have plenty here and so many others have so little! His argument: Yes, we need to make others happy first. Send them our wages.
Topic: Dreamers have a right to work in this country, moreso than Americans. After all, they didn't come here on their own. His argument: Their happiness is of utmost importance. Let them have our jobs.
This could go on forever. Your logic, like his, is not only lacking but is destroying Americans and their families in order to make everyone else happy.
You must tend to your own happiness first, then do what you can for others. Do you understand little drone? Or there will be nothing left of this country because of your ideals.
This. Clean your room and make your own bed first. Everything flows outwardly from that.
Praying for you, fren.
The anger you harbor inside is heavy. I know because I too used to be burdened by anger.
God bless you, and may your receive the peace that surpasses all understanding, in Jesus name.
The gatekeepers don't call it a "beautiful lie" for nothing. You feel holier-than-thou because you're surrounded by other fakers attacking me for saying people should tend to their own happiness first, then do for others. You're allowing this country to be taken over - every single one of you - because you're so extremely egotistical.
Angry? Hell yeah. I wish more would get angry about the kids hurting and the country being invaded. Instead you all sit around patting yourselves on the back for perceived spiritual superiority. Why do you think I was asked to come to this echo chamber? You all deserve what's coming.
Most reptiles and amphibians could care less about their babies. For mammals, quokkas get pretty close.
Human nature is to act as you do and the systems we've built are most successfully navigated selfishly, unceremoniously and without sentiment. It's gross and hopelessly shortsighted, but it's also not the individual's responsibility. Tragedy of the commons problems are handled at the societal level and declining civilizations just don't do that.
Imagine a world where the leftists cared about our happiness...
Awesome book. Reading it now (only partially completed and already extremely useful).
Thanks very much for the link...
Communism is supposed to work, too....just as long as we completely ignore human nature.
Says who? You'll never find true happiness if you have to find it in others. Find your own happiness first and then you can share it.
then a liberal comes along, finds your ballon, decides you don't deserve it, keeps it for themselves or pops it.
While I absolutely love this story, I think it's more of a metaphor for the new world order dream. Where the whole Community is responsible for the whole community. Where your children aren't really your children they are everyone's children. It's like the end of the Paw Patrol movie when they say 'take care of your neighbors before you take care of yourself'.
I think this is a great metaphor for the way a family should conduct themselves & I do think it's a very heart warming story.
And if a neighbor takes care of you...are we not all cared for at that point? It's how things are SUPPOSED to work...fallen nature ruined it.
Exactly. Definitely needs to start in the family first though.
Gay post
Nice.
Thatโs moving.๐๐ป
And that's what they do in college! ๐
Amen.
That sounds like Socialism to me. Also, just like they try to brainwash us with all the Covid nonsense. It was always about everyone elseโs safety.
What about all the balloons that popped? Experiment Brought To You By PFIZER!!!
Also, we know this 'experiment' never actually happened. With that many balloons and kids, it would take hours for everyone to get their balloon..not 5 minutes...and that's not accounting for all the other problems that would occur..such as popped balloons, stolen balloons, hiding other's balloons, etc.
I call bullshit on this story
Sounds like some communist gobbledy-gook.
This theory in real life practice:
A: "So, what can I do to make you happy?"
B: "I want all your money"
I get the idea behind the message, but my main issue is "Caring about other people's happiness". First, no one has to care about other's happiness, cause it's an inner peace thing. Second, sometimes, doing something to make person A happy, will harm other people. Focusing on "happiness" rather than "kindness/love" leads to traps like this.
One of the many fruits when you love your enemies and treat others the way you want to be treated.
Of course. But the meme says put others' happiness before your own. That is the debate. Not generally being kind and loving, which is good for all.
What about the faggots that lie about their name and get balloons that aren't theirs? That's a more accurate metaphor of what is happening in society. Others extracting happiness and security for people who actually work for it.
A justice system that cracks these balloon thieves is what is actually needed so that everyone who is honest have the best opportunity to be happy.
But the professor was trans-furry/pan and teh hallway was a safe space for the happy ballons.
