If you've forgotten last year, you apparently get half a year to celebrate being gay, 4 months for being bipoc and roughly 2 months of marketing for Christmas gifts.
The NHL has been and always will be a garage league. I loved the sport despite the league's flaws. I can't stand watching a frame of the shit anymore with all of the woke garbage it supported recently.
You hockey players make me sick :-). I can barely skate forward ... I can pick up some speed and actually feel a sort of rush while skating ... but I usually have to plow into a wall to stop. I do not have the coordination to throw a frigging dart let alone skate and shoot a puck at the same time :-). I almost killed myself (ok, an exaggeration) while trying to skate backwards once :-). I simply cannot play sports ... I was not meant to do that :-).
I was just thinking I should check out a lot of the other hockey leagues out there. I keep forgetting that there are more leagues than just the big ones.
I used to look forward to baseball in the spring and hockey in the fall ... both sports are perfect for the radio and make for good listening while working. I grew up in SW PA ... Mike Lange called the Penguins games ... he was the best in my worthless opinion ... I would prefer to listen to him than watch a game on TV (not during the Lemieux era though :-) ... he was made for television :-) ).
Speaking of Mario Lemieux, I met him a couple of times ... that guy is as genuine as they come. I once saw him stop for a big group of fans as he was driving away from the Civic Arena ... he sat in his car and signed autographs for anyone there ... everyone got a "thank you for your support" (a genuine one too) and asked if anyone else needed anything signed before leaving. I just walked up, shook his hand, and thanked him for the show he put on over the years (I hate asking for autographs ... just feels tacky).
I miss watching that man play ... he was something else. Same with Gretzky ... man were we spoiled in the 80s/90s :-) .
The true golden age. I started watching hockey more seriously about 1990 as a Red Wings fan. I hit it just right to appreciate what the latter-half of that decade was like for that club. Yzerman, the Russian Five, Probert, Nick Lidstrom, McCarty then Pavel and Zetterberg etc...
Glad to hear Mario was so cool. I used to hate playing the Pens, and the Flyers with Lindros. Great teams back then.
I still try and listen to Tigers games when I am on the lawn tractor even though they are perma-dogshit. Baseball will forever be a passion. I don't recognize much of the MLB game anymore with the ego, language barriers, and showboaty shit like bat flips being encouraged when it used to get you beaned.
That being said, hearing a live call over the air on a late spring day with a doobie while playing catch on the lawn with my wife is just unbeatable. Baseball is Americana and always will be. Hopefully kids still get stoked for little league, and there are sandlots still played on.
The Red Wings beat the Pens on the Pens' home ice back to win the Cup back in 2008 I think it was ... I couldn't get upset ... it was a great series though my interest in the NHL started to wane around that time. I think we beat you guys for the cup the year after.
It was incredible watching the Pens grow into Stanley Cup Champions in 1991. I was 11 when they drafted Lemieux. They broadcasted games on a meh UHF channel in the area. Since we didn't have cable, I'd often tune into that channel since we received it as clear as a bell :-). That's how I learned about hockey :-).
Lemieux made it clear that he was pissed that he would have to play for Pittsburgh. He did come off as a primadonna at first. I think people changed their opinion of him after his first game :-). I don't think he was called that after that night :-).
The team was a mess back then ... seriously, they were in a worse state than the Pittsburgh Pirates (I fucking LOATHE the owner of that team ... that inbred degenerate billionaire welfare recipient is a disgusting piece of shit) ... you could get center ice seats for next to nothing on many nights though we did have Gary Rissling and Ron Duguay at one point during the shit years :-) :-P ). When I got a bit older, some friends and I would take a bus down to see games ... it was that inexpensive seeing that none of us had much of anything :-).
Anyway, Mario sucked it up, went out on the ice, and became the incredible player he was. He would take wingers with some, but not impressive, talent and make them look like superstars. I swear he had supernatural powers on the ice. Even during seasons where the team SUCKED, his highlight reel would make it look like we were one of the elite teams in the NHL. What is ridiculously impressive is that he did all of that with a somewhat bad back!!!!!
As the Pens started to acquire players like Paul Coffey and Tom Barrasso, you could see them becoming a pretty special team almost in real time. When they traded for Ron Francis & Ulf Samuelson in '91, you knew they were going to kick some ass in the playoffs (one of the players that went to Hartford in that trade was Zarley Zalapski ... kinda wish they would have kept him for the name alone ... he was a favorite of mine).
I'll never forget that night they beat the North Stars and won their first cup. The celebration was organized, region-wide chaos. What was amazing was that there was very little crime ... a few fights were reported and some drunks did some stupid shit, but the night was as if everyone just said "fuck it, let's throw a party and have fun".
I went out to the airport like tens of thousands of other fans that night to greet the team :-) ... I managed to climb up some concrete structure and was almost directly above the players as they walked in. When they brought the cup in, I could see that white marking thing on the bottom as clear as a bell ... just a surreal moment for a fan that saw them grow from nothing to incredible in under a decade.
They won the cup again in 1992 ... that wasn't as much fun. My car was "danced" on by some faggot (he met the street face first ... it wasn't worth it for him to damage my car ... when you have nothing, you tend to defend it irrationally ... I don't know nor do I care what happened to that fucking prick ... I just know that he hit the ground face first somehow ;-) ). A bunch of degenerates tipped a bus over and almost killed the driver. There were fires, faggots throwing lit mattresses out into the streets ... just sad overall.
Anyway ... I think Lemieux is based ... not once did he ever come off as a liberal faggot nor did he ever drag any kind of politics into hockey. I think he agreed to sell the team at its peak value knowing damn well where the NHL was heading if I'm honest.
Man, I miss being able to enjoy a game ... I couldn't care less about the Pirates or Penguins anymore. I refuse to watch that stuff knowing damn well the league wants people like me removed from society. I will certainly have to check out some of the minor league teams in the region.
Sorry for the rambling ... those were some good memories :-) .
As a former Chicago sports fan, just wanted to say that this was a great random post. I miss the simplicity of life back then, and was lucky to grow up in the 80s and 90s. I'm sure every generation says that. Would be great if we could ever have that feeling of sports without the woke bullshit again.
You will probably want to kill me ... I was a big NJ Devils fan ... IIRC they were the reason the NHL eliminated the neutral zone trap via the two line pass change ... though after re-reading your post, you seem to agree :-) . Sorry, long day :-).
When is straight white male pride night? I'm not even kidding at this point. We need straight white males to start acting like straight white males, and being proud of it.
Knowing woke logic, they will probably start calling us "faggots" and will have "faggot night" for us "inbred retards" that know how to use a proper bathroom and don't care much for asshole.
When was the last time they did a Veterans night? Oh wait, NEVER! Glad to see at least on MAN step up and say fuck you to all this pedo shit, and yes, it's PEDO SHIT!
I'd love to see someone make a Russian Orthodox-themed jersey, with his name and number. Let Provorov wear it in the pre-game, virtue-signal skate. I'd be surprised if Comcast (team owner) allowed his expression of pride in his faith.
I called 4 different offices in there today to express my disgust with pride night and none of those who answered even remotely seemed to care about my concerns. I even got hung up on by the last guy.
How many fucking "pride" days do these degenerates need now?
Until you start sucking dick apparently. They aren't going to stop until everyone is a total faggot.
they are going to ban male female relationships soon
You will have to submit proof you are gay to get student aid......
I don't wanna know how that works.
I don't either..... But you will have to prove your not homophobic........
If they win.
Exactly. They get their own month for having mental illnesses.
Vets get one day…
If you've forgotten last year, you apparently get half a year to celebrate being gay, 4 months for being bipoc and roughly 2 months of marketing for Christmas gifts.
Seriously! How many Indoctrination Days do we need to witness?
Thank God for this lone warrior.
The NHL has been and always will be a garage league. I loved the sport despite the league's flaws. I can't stand watching a frame of the shit anymore with all of the woke garbage it supported recently.
Lifelong player and superfan. Been going to a lot of OHL games.
They still play real hockey. The "Show" sucks.
You hockey players make me sick :-). I can barely skate forward ... I can pick up some speed and actually feel a sort of rush while skating ... but I usually have to plow into a wall to stop. It all started when they cucked after the 2004-05 lockout and legalized the two-line pass because fuck defense.
You will probably want to kill me ... I was a big NJ Devils fan ... IIRC they were the reason the NHL eliminated the neutral zone trap via the two line pass change ... though after re-reading your post, you seem to agree :-) . Sorry, long day :-).
Right? That shit isn't until June I thought.
When is straight white male pride night? I'm not even kidding at this point. We need straight white males to start acting like straight white males, and being proud of it.
Absolutely.....

Good! More people need to start rejecting this pedophile bullshit!
And the coach backed him too.
Freeeeeeedom!
When I became a Christian I was “fortunate” to discover the Orthodox.
When was the last time they did a Veterans night? Oh wait, NEVER! Glad to see at least on MAN step up and say fuck you to all this pedo shit, and yes, it's PEDO SHIT!
Notice the guy in the background shake his head like he is disgusted. I'm disgusted by him.
The fat turd with glasses? 💩
Yes, shaking his head in disgust because this brave man is standing up for what he believes.
Girly man that one.
Head Coaches in every organization need to take notes...
I'm a flyers and a provy fan. Fuck this degenerate bullshit
I do t watch hockey. Might buy this guys jersey though.
I'd love to see someone make a Russian Orthodox-themed jersey, with his name and number. Let Provorov wear it in the pre-game, virtue-signal skate. I'd be surprised if Comcast (team owner) allowed his expression of pride in his faith.

They all support ESG. So no, they don't care about you or I.
I hate sports and everything they've come to represent now, but I respect this guy and his strength. A rare thing indeed.
Saying you won't wear it is no longer enough, you have to throw it back in their face and tell them to fuck off.
Why does hockey have a pride night to begin with. fuck off.
And my Flyboys WON! Good on Provy
i wouldnt wear it either. good for him!
The rest of his team is gay and proud of it? I had no idea that gays are that over-represented in hockey 😂
Sounds like ole Ivan is a great American Patriot.
I keep telling myself to find another team. Been a Flyers fan forever.
Cajones* Sorry I had to be that person…
😆😎
The rest of the team are a bunch of tranny lovers
Wouldn’t it be awesome if this guy said “Islam” when asked to define his faith.
The reporters would run away!
Good for him. The NHL should not even be having "pride night" at their supposedly family-friendly events. Disgusting
How about. I won't wear it because i dont support it. Why? None yo biniz
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha "Crazy Ivan". Good on ya man.
