Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment

Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)

Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way

Hope I copied that correct to give credit to op! It's the only post I can see so far bubbles.
There is one post.
I was in the mood to cook an old family oxtail recipe, and had 2lbs frozen from our stocking this winter. I needed another 2lbs.
So the tails I bought last year and thawed were only ~ $8 a pound. The fresh ones I bought today were ~$14 a pound.
Damn - the cheap stuff isnโt even cheap anymore!
I can remember my Mom teaching me how to use tails and shanks. Low and slow braiseโฆ
But damn if I canโt get anyone to just throw me the tail when they butcher now ๐๐คทโโ๏ธ๐คช
We should have a Flair that we can add to our posts that's some form of...
Lemme think about this.
Oh, also what about ..
"BS" or "That's BS" ... or "That's a bunch of malarky"
Your rock, even if no southern ones. But I'm keeping fingers crossed lol.
Or some kind of southern flair! For us southern folks lol
Yes!
Oh yeah, we southerners say all kinds of crazy stuff. I love the South โค๏ธ
Yes ma'am! I'm in lower Bama, what area are you from in the south?
Iโm in the upstate of South Carolina. Georgia line is about 10 minutes in my back door here at Hartwell Lake.
Lol yes we do! Maybe the mods will give us southerners one! Lol. I think Gob bless your heart! Would be a good one. Because we know it's as condescending as can be! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Kek.. your right about that.
Yes it surely is. I use it every chance I can to non suspecting yankee friends. I have a friend that has been here for 20 years from Boston. She says she is a โSokeyโ. She said itโs a southern yankee. I said honey there is no such thing, you my dear will always be a yankee. The yank always comes out.
True
Ok, here ya go - one for southern , one for hillbilly, and one for Alaska:
:-)
I identify with these ! ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Great idea, got my vote.
I've got a few lol. Ya'll, hold up! Really! I'll jap your Jaws! I know you didn't! Wait... wtaf! Lol we do say these things.
Have a friend that says "What the shit?" lol
I have a friend from from Wisconsin who says, I'm busy doin shit! Lol
Southern style, yes?
I forgot the best one! God bless her heart!! Lol
If you can swing it, we say โhow youโins doโin in the Ozarksโฆ
With the revelations that literally hundreds of balloons, and known, and unknown airborne objects have been flying in US airspace for 20+ years, it is time ask some hard questions:
How can we rule out any of the conspiracy theories surrounding "chem trails" when we have now confirmed that aircraft of hostile, and unknown origins have been operating in US airspace for at least 20 years?
I saw a post on Instagram last of the sky in France. The sky was covered with thick clouds, not dark, and you couldn't see the sun. With the exception of three holes in the clouds. There was clouds in the holes and they looked like they were swirled. I wish I had saved it. Many of these "reel" video clips don't have a date so I don't know when this was videoed.
The Lord put on my heart, an idea that he wants me to work on. Part of the process is requesting favorite scripture verses from friends and family.
Iโm just asking for a favorite scripture verse that you personally love, that has spoken to your heart. Once I get all the scriptures together, Iโll let you know when my project is done. Please pray for me that the Lord will guide me and direct me in what he wants me to do with the Scriptures.
Thanks for your time and being part of this project.
This is so interesting because my Womens Bible Study is studying the book of revelation. Will be in chapters 8 and 9 tomorrow.
Between the seventh scrolls in the seven trumpets, Godโs wrath of being poured out.
Such a beautiful project. Blessings
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NIV
When I looked this up online I found the KJ version interesting. I'm more familiar with NIV because it's on a lot of wall art. It's probably not used because it doesn't sound as romantic as the NIV. King James Version has great merit but I'd choose the modern quote for wall art.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 KJV
See you came back for a reason! Thank you for blessing me with your suggestion.
Thanks for the suggestion I will add it to my list. I greatly appreciate it. This is a great first!
Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, Romans 8:39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
This is another great example of Godโs word. Two great scriptures! Thanks for sharing this.
Iโm too new here to post but this video was interesting. Perhaps the Turkey/Syria earthquakes were way bigger happenings than we are led to believe. So we have increased events happening here to divert our attention to potentially this??? Prophetic Earthquake/Euphrates dried up and release of something greater than what we can truly fathom. ?

Well, I took a short break from GAW and a few other things I was spending to much time. Came here last week to post an update and I have to admit I did pop in to read the hot post. I've never been the type to bury my head in the sand. Edit: "Also, I believe the information overload was affecting me mentally and physically. There has been people in my family that had serious problems and wouldn't do anything about it. I spent so much time worrying about them I was making myself mentally sick. I had to give it to God. Now when my dad talks about my brother and fam I just listen." I just wish I could see the signs before I'm too far gone.
I'm back but now I realize I can't be here all day! I'm retired so it's easy for me to be here throughout the day. It had become like my way early days on Facebook. All day, check in as soon as I wake up and a quick look before sleep, while in bed.
Over the past month I've been cooking more than I've cooked in five years. I'm getting up around 8-9, early for me. Just three months ago I slept till 12 noon unless I had an appointment. I've always been a night owl and struggle to get going.
I don't know why I'm experiencing this change but I love it. Maybe the Moringa supplement I've been on since 11/22. I truly don't know and I'm not questioning it.
I've got a series amount of weight to lose. On a positive note my recent labs were good, even my BP was down to a good level and it's been up for at least ten years. I don't take BP RX.
I really missed y'all, especially the daily chat. It's wonderful to be apart of like minded people from all over the world. Doesn't matter if we know what the other looks like or personal information.
Blessings to all and I hope you are having a great day.
This morning I feel mentally worn with all I know, all that has been proven and shown solidly for the last 4-5 years, and still no big arrests of well known treasonous bureaucrats and Hollywood/famous type people. Yes I know stages have to happen and the small fish, CEOโs and people like such must be busted or resign. Things must be dripped out. But there are sooo many big name stars and bureaucrats to fall. Just getting a few dragged out crying in chains would help raise the accountability faith today. Yep, just how I woke up feeling this morning. Grumpy and impatient haha!
I've felt this way for months. I think it's natural to feel this way. Even if you are like me and only woke up over the last two years vs people awake for several years. It doesn't help when you have the type personality that ask questions, over researches everything and slightly OCD. I'm the type that expects things yesterday/immediately. I get it from my dad. Thank God I'm not as bad as him. If he needs your help he expects you to drop everything for things that aren't urgent. Yet, he can't commit to a specific date to help family, he might be busy. I've had to focus on me lately and that's helped me tremendously. Doesn't mean I don't get pissed at things, especially celebrities and the people blindly worshiping them.

The moment you realize you canโt get away no matter what. Yes duck and cover, close up and behind a not loose boulder, and pray to God!
Iโve seen this video before and wish the guy posted a follow up of him just escaping/surviving.
So why is the only place I can find this supposed map of USA leylines this dismissive article and pinterest
"Deboonked" because people chart them between PIZZA shops??
https://indie88.com/what-is-a-spiritual-ley-lines-map-and-why-you-may-live-on-one/
If you are using non google search engines that might be why. I try not to use google but many times what I'm searching isn't on the smaller search engines. I just searched on google and there's many links and images. Here's one:
enter text
Here's "ley lines USA map" search on Yandex. Strange, I use Yandex a lot and for this search I had to prove I'm not a robot (fill in words in pic) enter text
Also found a lot on enter text It won't let me post the search link. I use this search engine also.
Another question... What's an effective and natural weedkiller? I don't want to harm bees. I do want to kill weeds!
straight vinegar, its all you need. Spot kill, dont drench any other area, as the intense acidity will not allow you to grow anything else until you amend the soil for ph. I had an intense patch of stinging nettle, way beyond what I needed for medicinal use, or give away for that purpose, it creates a net of woven roots, like a carpet I used vinegar, , after chopping off the tops, covered the area with white vinegar, then covered that with black plastic mulch for the summer, its gone now forever. Burdock roots are another story, they grow 3ft into the ground I just cut them back. Thank you for not putting toxins in the soil.
I live in Arizona, so when Iโm spraying for weeds, I donโt have to worry about the bees so much. Thereโs no flowers on our weeds, and itโs just rocks and dirt.
However, since Iโve done home repairs for quite a while now, and I have taken care of my motherโs property slowly, if youโre not using poison, itโs really hard to kill weeds.
I use killzall. You can get it on Amazon, Home Depot, or ace hardware. Itโs really expensive, but you donโt have to use a lot because itโs a concentrate. Itโs the best weed killer Iโve ever had and used. I just ordered some and it came in the mail a couple days ago.
I received a small bottle from a yard guy who used to do our yard, he had a little left, so he gave it to me. Itโs been the best. But it kills everything anything that touches it will kill.
Good luck with the weed, cause they can be a real pain in the you know what
Ronstar is a good pre-emergent my landscaper recommends and used on our extensive landscape.
Thanks I looked it up online, Iโm saving the page
Does this kill the weeds permanently? I'm in North Carolina and we might just have every weed that's in existence. It's an old family property. Except for my yard the rest is weeds. My grandfather planted crabgrass decades ago for ground cover. It's impossible to pull up, roots are long and spread out. My husband and dad (my neighbor) use roundup because it's the only thing that works. I know it's bad and I'm not a fan but can't have weeds taking over.
Just like the name says it kills all! Any vegetation that it touches it will kill it. But when I spray for weeds in my yard, which is all rocks because I live in Arizona, I donโt you spray the weeds were there coming up, I spray the entire yard with all the rocks. But I focus on where the rocks meet the cement, thatโs where a lot of weeds tend to sprout up. But as long as youโre covering the entire area, in a few days, itโll start dying off. Then itโs just clean up after that. But yes, crabgrass can be really nasty unless youโre going to get some type of Rototiller and tear up your entire yard. This killzall should work. I think itโs 30 bucks for a quart. It says 2 1/2 teaspoons per gallon, but I put in 4 1/2. Lol.
Boiling water is good If you have weeds in gravel or through bricks or cracks in concrete. There is also a propane weed burner if it is a non flammable area.
You need to get the roots with crab grass, not sure if vinegar will do it. I have had the best luck hand pulling and using a small trowel to get roots of tenacious weeds. Easiest after the rain. It is tedious, but also soothing and calms the mind. Unlike the internet!
We are getting rain and a cold front tomorrow, so if it's warm enough, I will do it Friday.
I think vinegar kills plants but not the roots. Once I poured out a large bowl of white vinegar and it killed the grass. The grass eventually came back maybe because it's centipede.
I mixed some salt, vinegar, and dish soap to pour on crab grass. Will see if it works.
I've used this mixture before also.
Here's an easy mixture to help you get rid of ants and maybe other bugs as well.
Mix water & dawn ...
use enough to make the water a little lighter in color of the soap, though of course it's the soap that kills the ants, so judge for yourself. The water helps the soap soak into the dirt and go down into the ant bed easier. Pour the mixture to saturate the ant bed, as much as you want, the more the better. I like to piss them off a bit by sticking a stick in a few spots on the mound to get them to the top so when I pour mixture on it kills more ants, and the holes you make helps to get the liquid down further in the bed. I make a gallon size container full and walk around the yard to pour on beds, sometimes during the summer I have to remake the mixture a few times. Though I like to pour a lot on. I don't want to get bit and don't want my pups to get bit. And the mixture won't harm your pups, you can bathe your pups with dawn soap.
It works great to kill a ton of ants, of course as with any ant killer the ones that live will relocate, but just keep after them. Check the ant beds the next day and you will see a bunch of dead ants on top of bed (on bigger beds anyways).
You can also mix a small amount of dawn (like just a few drops into a small spray bottle of water) into water to help kill or keep bugs on plants. I've even sprayed the soil in my garden with a small spray bottle to kill pretty large ant beds in my garden.
You can also use coffee grounds in your garden to keep ants out, they don't like coffee grounds, I don't think it kills them but keeps them out of garden soil and it's safe for plants.
Thanks! I didn't know that would kill ants. We always have a lot and the buggers bite me every time I mow my yard. Bah!
ants will move on out if you use coffee grounds, they hate it. I just don't want them in my garden, have at it in the road or in the woods. Problem with insecticides, is they kill beneficial insects too, the good bugs that will eat the bad bugs. Also, the birds eat bugs. If you can get your gardens into a nice balance, things do work out, it takes a few years.
The best thing to kill ants is a white powder. And I canโt think of the name of it, but the stuff is so pungent. You have to wear a mask with it. But it does the trick. Every single time. Best stuff ever.
I like the stuff but itโs so messy. Living in Arizona. Itโs something that you would put a home barrier around your house for scorpions. Works great for that. Never tried it for ants though. Great suggestion.
Ticks are everywhere in Vermont now, my friends are always pickin em off, I free range my chickens after the garden is done, and before I plant out, there are no ticks on my property, anywhere, even where they don't go, I run my dogs through my small woods, nope. It's almost weird, as a matter of fact. I caught Lyme in Vermont, in 1985, before I bought my place. I was staying at a farm a friend had, about 2 miles away, go figure.
Thanks, I've killed regular ants with hot water or vinegar separately. Even used grits, ants eat grits and they explode. Fire ants are a different breed. It's very hard to kill them. Even poison or gas doesn't kill them all. They are so deep in the ground. A guy I used to work with said gun powder works, shooting mound with a shot gun. My husband says bullets are to expensive. I agreed.
Keep pouring coffee grounds into their hole, it will take a couple of weeks, they get messed up, forget to forage, the workers dont go back, the colony dies off, the hepped up workers wander off and die without the colony, they will stay away from then on.
Amdro, available at the big box stores. I lived in central Florida and fire ants are a big problem. They put me in the emergency department twice. The little bastards think Amdro is candy and they take it into the colony and feed it to the queen. I kept a bottle of it on the handle of the lawn mower. See a mound, sprinkle a capful. Pretty soon, theyโre gone.
If you use hot water, it will kill your grass. I know from experience, lol. Husband didn't find it very funny though ;)
I also heard if you have two big ant beds, get a shovel and scoop up one ant bed and throw it on another ant bed, they will fight to the death, killing each other. Saw a video on it awhile back.
Good luck. Soap kills bugs on plants. Not fire ants, nothing but poison and gas kills them. Gas is to expensive. They have taken over! Also, if you need to kill weeds or grass you can put down cardboard or a tarp for a long time, maybe a month. Double check that time period. Weeds will still come back unless you are doing something permanent.
Thanks! We use a soapy spray for our lime tree and tomato plants during the summer. Seems to help.
Does anyone know of a good, free, and reliable furniture appraisal website?
Worthpoint, prior auctions on AuctionZip, and then of course eBay at times for lighter/smaller stuff like chairs and end-tables. Sometimes Craigslist you can get a rough idea of other listings.
I must be behind the times because I've never heard of either of those!
Thanks!
Totally a hunch, based completely on being around the auction business for a few years - and even then having little experience with furniture - you're not going to find those three qualifications together in one service. It's a unicorn.
Depending on your needs, a local boutique furniture or antiques dealer might be willing to work with you to determine value on the condition they profit from a sale, or for a nominal fee.
I'm fairly certain I've seen you discuss running your own resale hustle, so I'm basing my reply on that criteria. If you're attempting to purchase retail furniture or something, my advice might be even less valuable. ๐
Good luck. I truly wish I could help more. If I could, it would have meant I successfully made a small fortune in furniture in the past. But no dice.
Thanks! I have bought and sold a few things from estate sales. I just enjoy old furniture and history behind it. Knowing the value would be the cherry on top. ๐
To follow up yesterday's 0bama love tweet, here's Dr Alice Cooper Biden's. The responses are delicious.

Is rumble not working for anyone else?
I always have problems with videos. I think it's because my internet is slow. As many rumble video posts I see here I guess most people don't have a problem.
Nvm, Ad blocker suddenly blocked all playback. Stupid.
I noticed this too, when Rokfin's video playback stopped working in my web browser earlier this week. It looks like PiHole (web filter) was blocking "cdn.jwplayer.com".
Answer of the Day:
Yes, it's not even 60 days into 2023, voted Official Year of the Boomerang by yours truly.
Not even 60 days, and all mayhem and heaven is breaking loose. Megaboom stories, house commissions, Twitter files, ww3 provocations, yufos and disastrous 'accidents'. Plus uber-Satanic half shows, and inscrutable maneuvers (*is he a DS nut, or is does he wear that hat that is white?).
Yes, it's all habbening and then some folks.
Wild prediction: you ain't seen nothing yet. Things are only going to get crazier.

I don't know if this was anything or not but at 11:59 pm I heard what sounded like only thing I can think is a B-52 go over my two dogs just went crazy barking I rushed out but the clouds were covering the sky, it was heading south west I live in SE Ohio. I lived around Naval air stations for 20 years in the Navy is the only thing I could think of sounded like that. Don't know for sure.
It's an ordinary day. We have been married thirty four years and don't give gifts on valentines or anniversary. I think it was more my idea. In my opinion it's just more pressure to compete with friends and coworkers. I've worked places where a few women always got lots of flowers all the time. I see that as showy and seeking attention. We used to go out to eat for anniversary but haven't since 2020. Once my husband was invited on a guy's trip to ride four wheelers and it fell on our anniversary. I told him to go. I've traveled a lot with my family and he stayed home to work and kept the dog. Another thing I don't believe in giving money to the card companies and florists. The card companies and retailers are the reason for the demand.
I'll always have great memories on valentines because my grandma sent us the sucker valentines card in the mail.
Bottom line I want to be loved every day of the year instead of all the attention on one day of the year. We are constantly doing small gestures for each other all year.
Also isn't Cupid from a pagan religion? That's not why I don't celebrate. I only recently learned this.
enter text
No judgement to people that celebrate. If it makes you happy do it!
I'm aware of Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Winter & summer Solstice pagan history and they are still big days for satanic worship. I follow a lot of herbalists for education purposes. Most do a flower wheel for solstice. (Don't remember the official name for making those circles.) I have to be careful with who I follow and purchase products. If they post witch items, satanic star, spell recipes, etc I stay away. I believe as long as your reasons for celebrating is pure and not evil/satanic it's ok. Not saying I'm right or wrong. I'm in fifties and I don't plan on stopping Christmas celebrations.
So yesterday my wife took my truck to work to haul some large toys we were donating to a coworker's child, leaving me and our toddler with her sedan.
We were getting ready to go out for the day, car wouldn't start. Not a huge deal, but I couldn't work on it alone with the toddler. Wife (and her boss) was gracious enough to come home to work remotely so that I could fix the car, etc. We decided to get some lunch together in the truck at the local Mom and Pop "Dairy Queen" type establishment. It was a great, big, unhealthy meal followed with our toddler's first ice cream cone - we don't eat out often, and don't do candy and snacks for the kid. They have a small playground, and our kid got to play with some other children while we ate a pretty lazy meal.
Getting back to the truck, the door lock had broken, and as I'd lost my fob a few months ago we couldn't get in with the keys. Spent the rest of the afternoon waiting on a locksmith. Will have to fix both vehicles today. ๐
Anyway, while we were waiting, this young probably 18 year old boy brought his 17/18 year old girlfriend to work. Turns out he used to work at this place and was all bravado and charm with his former coworkers. The young love coming off these two was awesome.
She was going back and forth amongst her coworkers and the regulars inside and outside, getting ready for her shift, gossiping, making the rounds, while the boy was up front at the counter with the "Queen Bee" older lady / manager who was just picking his brain about Valentine's Day. He didn't know exactly what their plans were, but he had IDEAS. And they just got wilder and more expensive as he told the manager about them, stopping only occasionally as his girlfriend got into earshot, or literally got close enough to grab him and assert her ownership. ๐
It was the sweetest damn thing. And even sweeter because it's almost exactly like how my wife and I started out, over 25 years ago. I even worked at an ice cream shop.
That's a good Valentine's Day.
Charles Dance would be nice, to take me out to dinner, (actor who played Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones) in some Scottish castle, near the sea, reading me poetry.
It's interesting how we are attracted to different types of people. John Snow would be my type. The rough around the edges, hot looking hero. I was always attracted to bad boys until I met my husband. Totally opposite of anyone I dated. I'm down for the Scottish castle. I'm a little obsessed with Scottish history and the accent.
I just find Charles Dance very handsome, his personality is probably like a lot of them, narcissistic to the max. But a perfect Valentines date is just a fantasy. At my age I go for the settings , the food, and a chance to play dress up. Then its back to shoveling shit.
Oh you should check out Outlander (if you haven't). The memes about the main character Jamie Fraser are wild. I've linked a mild one for you. It's in my top five TV dramas. I'm reading the books also. Before I discovered Outlander I was interested in Scotland because it's part of my ancestry. I'd love to visit.
enter text
I, too would be down for the scottish castle please! :D
But he knows nothing.
Just to be cozy with hubby...๐
Love this!
Grateful for every day! ๐๐
Probably not too dissimilar to what my husband and i do each year. I tell him happy valentines probably 15-30 times over the course of the day, we spend the day together pretty much as we usually do, maybe have some cheap take out. He usually gives me a gift (not chocolates or flowers) and i make him nama chocolate.
Lowkey, and not really different from 90% of our days lol its perfect to me.
Yes, it sounds perfect.

A glass 1/2 empty person is a person who sees the world differently.
Ha ha when I'm asked if I'm a glass full of 1/2 empty person most people wish they hadn't asked me. I've always said I don't have a glass. Maybe it's from my some childhood experiences. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than expecting people to come through and get disappointed. On the other hand I have faith everything problem will work itself out. Even if it's not the way you wanted.
That goes without saying, but differently how is the pertinent question
About 50% differently.
