Since the counteroffensive started, 25-30K Ukrainians have been killed and ~20% of the gear that NATO has given them has been destroyed. Russia's taking some losses, but they're maintaining a 10:1 kill to loss ratio. It's suicidal what we're watching.
Some of the big name ex-military commentators have been very clear in explaining that you simply can't assault a fixed, fortified position like this without significant air power and saturation artillery strikes.
