Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Hi, everyone! I would like to say that daily General Chat is a very good thing. PLEASE don’t make it weekly. On another note- in the town where I live, an electric company is replacing poles. These poles are very tall and all metal. The company putting them in is not our electric provider. I, being an optimist, am thinking they may be putting in infrastructure for free energy, under the guise of general improvement. What do you think?
I work for an energy company - most likely installing more permanent fixtures since wood rots over time.
Sis if they end up changing it to a weekly, we will adapt and over come. It's why we are here at this time. We can all work together and still hold together that family feeling. Maybe even add some new people to the group. Keep faith. Together through Christ we have endless potential
I know what you’re saying. I’m just putting my two cents in. There are many of us, as you know, who try to check/check in to Gen. Chat on a daily x10 basis. I can’t wait a week to tell you guys something. So much happens that I would surely forget! Why not have both? Daily plus a continuation thread that lasts for a week. We will lose a lot of input the other way. WWG1WGA and all input counts.
If you made your comment a top comment then it would easily be seen if you sort by new in the post. By weekly thread I believe the thread would be stickied for the week still. The downside would be the amount of comments would increase so we would have to look through more things. However I think over time this board will grow so that would eventually happen to general chat anyways.
I do completely understand your feeling and I love that you love the connection because I do as well. Thanks for sharing your input and have dialogue with me about this God bless you fren.
Would be great but the cynic in me would believe it's 5g first... Stock up on foil
My first thought was, “I hope we’re not going to get brain cancer.”
It's a counter measure for the tin foil KEK
Get the lowdown on 'e/acc'
They literally just make shit up and try force and justify the push for change “THEY” believe in. Get ready for this new shit!

Wait, there's a vote to get rid of General Chat? I vote NO. Why would that even be a consideration? Lol.
Interesting stories. I have some friends who are avid cyclers and something I've recently been learning about the sport is there's tons of crashes and bad injuries. Like, just in the past year there's been at least 4 serious wipe outs between these two guys. Kind of blows my mind.
I know it's not at all the same, but as a young teen I would constantly bike all over the city on a 10 speed, probably 20 miles a day (I know cyclists do dozens of miles a day when training) and can't recall a single accident outside of stunt related stuff in my even younger, BMX days.
I guess I was extremely lucky. Or these two are extremely unlucky. Probably both, I'd guess.
GC issue stems from the following :
https://greatawakening.win/p/17rmJSChvv/coming-soon-possible-balancing-s/c/
Hope you're OK. I would listen to Presto to ease your pain.
Dang. Guess my two friends are just unlucky. Thanks for clarifying, heal up!
Tons of insight here, and I don't have much to reply, but wanted to let you know I saw it, read it, and enjoyed it. I usually catch GAW on short breaks between hectic periods. Lol.
Anyway, yes to all of that stuff. Something that completely went over my head, although I still never remember crashing, is the fact I was never going anywhere near 40mph on my 10 speed as a kid. No where even close. I just had kind of a "wow moment" and got some extra empathy for my friends' crashes.
Also, one of my very few fetishes, and one I delight in pointing out to my wife, is hot chicks on the back of motorcycles. I'm hoping you didn't ruin that for me. 😅✌️
Edit: tagging you so you see it because I think I've seen you say you check your inbox (I do not, kek). Daily chat ironically showing it's limitations. 🤔 u/pepesee
Actually didn't mean to downvote that one, downfall of touch screen phone and being on the go. If you notice I haven't downvoted any of your comments.
No they wanna just make it into a weekly chat. This way longer discussions can take place and people can get more eyes on the stuff they post there. So if something doesn't fit as it's own post, people post there and it gets more visibility..I think what's happening is to many off topic post and then people complain that it doesn't get visibility on daily chat. So they are working to fix this
I saw the big thread on it after posting here - actually came in to edit my OP. Nice summary Slechta.
I posted my rambling thoughts on it on the big thread. My gut, based on how I've seen Daily Vs Weekly play out for near 30 years is to keep it daily. Weekly threads tend to get too disorganized for casuals, such as myself. I personally love the Daily vibe we've cultivated, even if it could use more engagement.
That said, I see the mods angle about the low effort shower thought stuff clogging up main. I think it's misguided, personally. But I don't have to spend countless hours moderating a war zone, so I'm willing to roll with it.
Best case scenario, we GC regulars put in a little more effort to help make the Weekly work, and it turns out to be pretty great. Hopefully GAWs traffic is low enough it doesn't turn into a cluster-f.
I will miss the feeling of a Daily Verse, or Song, or Recipe, etc. but hopefully we keep those rolling.
Yes I think it will take a little adjusting but if we work together and all put In some effort I think we can make it into something special without losing that special vibe we currently have. God bless you fren. Love you. Hope all is well with you
Why couldn't a weekly one be used for the same thing?
You can always delete the original thought if it gets to annoying for you. Or even just respond that you don't wanna chat about it any longer. Realistically how much engagement on any one topic do you think you will get. Your complaint seems like something that is a smaller issue then what they are trying to fix by changing it. So it's a tough balance but to me makes the most sense in the long run
Fair.
My oh my. You are just being silly now. Have a good rest of your day
Lol alrighty then. You are free to think what you want.
I hope that if they move forward with changing it to weekly that you will help us build it up into something special. Take care
They can serve the same purpose my fren. I think in the long run it makes the most sense based off what people are seeking, what they complain about and what the mods mission for this site are.
In truth it's what the general chat has been meant for any ways, now it's just gonna be one post for the whole week. Not really a lot of change. Honestly we need people to engage with other more..many complain there post don't get engagement but don't give that extra effort to engage with others. We need to be a team.
God bless you fren. Hope you have a blessed day
Yes of course you a free to see it how you choose. No need type in all caps and lash out. We are simply having a dialogue on the topic. We can share our views freely. God bless. Much love
I like the daily too.
My vote, don't get rid of the daily.
Prayer Garden Podcast Episode 15: Matt (u/Exila)
https://youtu.be/4ywsXuHSrfw?si=HuSau0YRf724SR2W
On this episode we speak with my friend Matt (Exila on communities.win). Matt and I met on the Prayer Garden Server and he is one of our first members that came over from Reddit. We get to hear Matt's testimony and how growing up with his grandparents pointed him in the direction to Christ. We also listen to the very honest discussion about battling the flesh when it comes to lust and how the Bible's instruction in 1 Corinthians 6 : 18-20 is instrumental to avoiding temptation. We then discuss how Matt feels lead by the Lord to help his local community in advancing the Gospel and the coming Kingdom of God.
Thank you for tuning in! Together through Christ we have endless potential.

In the list of 105 republicans that voted with dems to get rid of Santos I see James Comer of KY. The head of the investigating committee on the Biden corruption voted to reduce the effectiveness of his parties votes. Did he just out himself as a neocon? He's been dithering long enough...get rid of his ass.
I agree with Santos being a lying sack of shit but then that includes the majority of politicians. Comer was the point of my comment. He's showing the signs of being just another hindrance. Kick the can, drag their feet and dither. The current policies are hurting people and they're footing the bill for it. Now 34 trillion of it.
Some of the ideas for this week’s “everything’s f****ed” are from Owning a Home is Literally a Scam https://youtu.be/ZL5vMCXcfQ4 ~The FHA was created to encourage to home ownership because when people can own things they will work harder.~
Home ownership creates problems when seeking job opportunities.
Tactic #1 Stay put and commute. People really underestimate the cost of commuting. https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2011/10/06/the-true-cost-of-commuting/ “So each mile you live from work steals $795 per year from you in commuting costs. $795 per year will pay the interest on $15,900 of house borrowed at a 5% interest rate. In other words, a logical person should be willing to pay about $15,900 more for a house that is one mile closer to work, and $477,000 more for a house that is 30 miles closer to work.”
Tactic #2 Move. Few people stay in a home long enough for pay off a 30 year mortgage. Everyone should be aware of how mortgage amortization works. At the beginning of a 30 year loan, most of the payments in the first years goes to interest and little goes toward repaying principle. When you get a new mortgage the amortization restarts from the beginning. And you’ll have closing costs each time.
Tactic #3 Work from home. You might need or want a separate office room. Hopefully you can do this in a low-cost area.
We are told that home ownership is an investment. Maybe that’s true if for people who would otherwise spend their money on useless crap. But after paying property tax, utility bills, insurance, repairs, and interest will you actually make money when you sell the house for a 300% gain?
Who really benefits from rising home prices? Not you, the homeowner.
Governments because they can charge more taxes. Both property tax and capital gains tax.
Banks because they get interest on larger loans.
Realtors because they get a larger commission on more expensive homes.
Insurance companies because they sell bigger policies. And if you have a mortgage you must have insurance.
Owning a home (or any kind of real estate property) is probably the only way for people to ensure their savings does not disappear before their future generations can make use of it, beyond the limitations of investing in Gold and Silver.
I think what you have made the case for is "Mortgages are scam" because they are. You spend almost 15 years just paying interest and you can expect a typical recession in less time than that to wipe it all out.
Property ownership is the most powerful thing for the liberty of humanity.
What is happening is a million ways to make it unfeasable and to detract people from it.
Titles - Not owning Alloidal titles is what causes all kinds of taxation and other costs, while making sure people dont really own their properties.
MBS (Mortgage Backed Securities) - Pumps the magic money from the CBs into mortgage securities and transfers ownership of houses to the Banks, while also making the prices soar catching more people into mortgage trap.
Other indirect factors finishes the job
Theft via Inflation
Income Taxes
Defocusing skilled trades that allows people to work for themselves and not having to commute
All these things adds to the illusion that "home ownership" itself is a scam.
Own nothing and be happy?
If you're renting, you're still paying those - but for someone else. Do you think the landlord doesn't calculate those items into the cost of rent? Of course he does! Right down to the interest he's paying if he has a mortgage.
Owning is always better. You don't have to get an FHA loan, you don't have to get a 30 year mortgage. Yes, amoritzation is completely bogus and a rip-off, but you don't even have to borrow from a bank, mortgage lender or credit union. You can make a private deal. There are lots of options. Bottom line, WORST case scenario, you spend 30 years paying for your home. But then you're done. If you don't buy, you rent. I know a 74 year old paying $4500 per month, rent. Insane. That person would literally have at least 2.5 million in equity if they had purchased years ago.
Property Tax has entered the chat
You'll own nothing and be unhappy. It wasn't long ago we heard about people getting forced out of the homes because they couldn't afford the tax.
House prices don't need to go up for ownership to be worthwhile. As long as the expenses are less than rent it makes sense.
Always? Rent vs buy isn't always apples to apples, especially for a single person. If a 1 bedroom works, why buy a 2 or 3 bedroom? Utility bills are money literally up in smoke.
$4500/month is crazy! It would be slick if that was a tax efficient way to transfer money to other family who owns the place. Otherwise pretty dumb. They can't take the money with them though.
No, it's not owned by a family member. And that is considered a 'good value' due to the location. Like you said, you can't take it with you. But if you had someone else in your life, you could leave it to them and help lighten their load.
The commuting costs aren’t properly discounted for the overlap of having a mode of transportation for travel besides commuting.
Can you explain more? I didn't see anything in MMM's article that assumed you would get rid of the car. Of the $795 per mile per year, $170 is car mileage based expenses and $625 is time based.
While MMM isn't technically wrong with his interest calculation, we don't buy houses on interest only.
The article mentions:
The IRS estimate doesn’t include people’s time (which widely varies in value) yet the cost per mile is still relatively high because it includes the costs of owning the vehicle, Gasoline at $3/ gallon and 30 mpg comes to $0.10 per mile, which is less than 20% of the $0,51 driving cost. The lion’s share is the vehicle cost.
Commuter cost is mostly people’s time, but it also includes driving costs which are vehicle costs plus fuel costs. To eliminate commuter costs, you’d have to eliminate vehicle costs by not owning a vehicle anymore.
Say what you will about Daily Wire, it takes all types and the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Lady Ballers is hilarious and is triggering the crap out of people. If you all are interested I'll share my thoughts on it when it is over.
UPDATED:
Ok, so just finished watching Lady Ballers. I'd give it a solid B-, maybe even a B. It was reminiscent of stupid sports comedies like what Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and that crowd did in the 90s and 2000s. Sophmorish, dumb and crude humor, some really funny parts, unrealistic good ending. It hit the tropes without being obscenely offensive like most of them are, and it poked wokism in both eyes. Bonus.
On top of that, it was surprisingly clean for this type of movie. The characters weren't all total garbage, and the characters were more real than in a lot of movies.
It was weird. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a great movie, but it was pretty good. I'd watch it again.
Daily Wire gets a lot wrong, but they're fighting back and trying stuff, a lot more than some folks.. I'm gonna give em props for that.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
I understand this mentality, however in a world of psyops and controlled opposition this rule may not always hold true.
Agreed. There's the enemy and then there's the ENEMY
There is wisdom in this as well, as the Bruce did in fact betray William. Though Bruce did redeem himself in the end.

I first tried Brave on my machine a few years back. Sadly, RAM was insufficient to make it very practical. But since upgrading about 6 months back to a full reasonably heavy duty rig, I have been brave enough to make Brave my primary browser.

I posted this on General Chat yesterday, but it was only a few hours before it converted to Dec. 2. I thought more people might be interested in this. I recently saw a documentary called “Dark Legacy” which is about the Bush family going back to their collaboration with the Nazis through GHWB’s role in the JFK assassination. They displayed the documents and film of interviews from those historical times. It is currently playing on Tubi, a free streaming app.

Stop talking aboit flat Earth or I will flood this thread with flat chested waifus
Ooo I read that as waffles. Waffles sound good...
I love waffles!
What’s waifus? Inquiring mind would like to know
No idea, but waffles sound great right now! Lol…

Waffle waifus lol
Are you filing this under personal anecdotes, puzzles or cute pics/clips?
Or just a frog poking fun.
Ur prolly right.
Jeez ur a cranky ___hat today.
It was a light-hearted poke at the “anything goes” rule. Mentioning FE always stirs the pot and causes someone to start hyperventilating.
And fyi, I’m agnostic on the concept.
Go take a nap. 🙄
Hmmm…not sure. Lol…just feeling ornery.
Ok I gotta get my eyes checked- I read horny
Lol…
Well, my subtle little whimsy in Gen Chat yesterday didn't appear to do the trick, and for some weird reason, the CAT did not pick up on my trademark obscure, abstract satire (who'da thunk it), but seriously, does the CAT mean "General Chat" when he's posting and talking and discussing "Daily Chat"?
It might seem just pedantic, but for Pepe's sake, if the name of the thread is General Chat why not USE that name, instead of creating threads about the "Daily Chat"?
I mean, attention to detail. High effort and all that.
signed, linguistically oriented and occasionally dumbfounded non-autist
Note: use of capitals is standard for designating an actual proper noun, aka formal NAME, as opposed to regular non-capitals for a common noun, aka just the word that is used to refer to something.
"daily chat" makes sense, but "Daily Chat" is only existent on GAW in those two posts by Catsfive and a solitary post by Polish one year ago. Better yet, 'daily General Chat' would be super accurate.
And that is ALL I'm going to say about that. Next topic?
Well, it ain't Private Chat, but I always wonder where the lower-ranked chats are at.
u/#peperain
Yeah, he meant General Chat when he said Daily Chat.
lmao i love this. there gotta be a p in your mbti
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
