0 Est. Read Time: 2 min. Commentary In what some claim is a larger campaign to drive Americans out of rural areas and centralize access to food, the Biden administration is rolling out a draconian and needless new wastewater rule that could put small and mid-size food processing facilities out of business.
A large group of United States senators and representatives are demanding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) withdraw a new meat and poultry wastewater proposal, which they claim “stands to hamper rural economies and drive small- and mid-sized processing facilities out of business.”
“Given the technical complexity and high costs of wastewater treatment alterations, coupled with the massive expansion of the number of regulated facilities, a 60-day comment period demonstrates EPA is not interested in seeking meaningful input from the regulated industry. As such, we urge EPA to withdraw the rule,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to EPA officials.
“The proposed rule exposes hundreds of operators to a new regulatory regime with significant costs and a disregard of the ramifications on stakeholders … We are concerned the number of potential closures is likely much higher than estimated, and we believe it is irresponsible for EPA to propose regulations that will arbitrarily close plants and eliminate jobs from the rural economy,” they write.
“The EPA on January 24, 2024 published its proposed changes to the Effluent Limitations Guidelines (ELGs) for Meat and Poultry Products (MPPs). The guidelines apply to wastewater discharged by meat and poultry processors and renderers, as defined in a Clean Water Act program,” the senators reveal in a statement.
“The revisions EPA has put forward consist of three options, impacting between 844 and 1,618 facilities. Currently, MPP ELG guidelines affect just 180 facilities. Per EPA, this proposed regulation could close 16 MPP facilities under Option 1, 22 under Option 2 and 53 under Option 3. MPP processors support rural jobs and are key links in the national food supply chain.,” they add.
“The 60-day comment period on the rule closes March 25th. EPA has announced it does not plan to issue an extension. Such a tight window does not give stakeholders adequate time to submit meaningful feedback,” the senators note.
In addition to Senators Fischer and Ernst, the letter was signed by U.S. Senators Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), James Risch (R-Idaho), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), James Lankford (R-Okla.), and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.).
In the House, the letter was led by U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (R-Kan.). In addition to Representative Mann, the letter was signed by U.S. Representatives Glenn “GT” Thompson (R- Pa.), Steve Womack (R-Ark.), Austin Scott (R-Ga.), Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.), Don Bacon (R-Neb.), Ron Estes (R-Kan.), James Baird (R-Ind.), Pete Stauber (R-Minn.), Dan Meuser (R-Pa.), Jake LaTurner (R-Kan.), Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa), Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Brad Finstad (R-Minn.), Mike Flood (R-Neb.), and Mark Alford (R-Mo.).
The lawmakers are backed in their effort by the American Association of Meat Processors, the North American Renderers Association and the North American Meat Institute.
This is the method they used to put small farmers out of business:
There was a major, probably THE MAJOR, surfboard construction industry company, Clark Foam, that had been in business for at least 50 years in CA, and was forced to go out of business (they could have relocated, but the cost and effort to do so must have been too high for them) due to this. There was no industry replacement that I am aware of, but likely foreign made foam surfboard blanks is the general replacement.
As it has always been , nothing new under the Sun , or is it Son ?
Meanwhile, every major river in Michigan and lakes connected to them are loaded with PFAS, and the EPA couldn't give a fuck.
It's so bad! In my city the cleared an old contaminated site that once held an auto plant and made it into a recreational walking park. Didn't bother to totally clean up the property, just posted signs warning people not to have contact with the soil. But it safe to bring your kids for a nice walk right?? It's the second site withing a few miles. Last time the put playground equipment in, and new signs to warn people not to touch the soil. Just sickening! Both sites are on very contaminated rivers thanks to dow. Saginaw river and the titabawassee.
What parks are you talking about? I live in Saginaw Twp and never heard of or seen this?

There's a pic of the warning sign in this article. You have to click it to read it.
You could be describing the old "Chevy in the hole" plant site in Flint that has been turned into a park..
I guess that's just what they do with all the contaminated properties here in Michigan. It's a shame.
Still awaiting Citation on this. What parks?
So you want the EPA to fix some things but not others?
Better be EVERY senator and representative on this list. A large group of United States senators and representatives are demanding the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Where are our democrat representatives on this.
IMHO this sounds like a mafia style shake down where RICO and Conspiracy charges are brought up on every member of the government involved.
So where will the Somalis and wetbacks work?
Tyson Foods.
Wetbacks🤣😂🤣😂🤣OMG.... u HAVE to be a genXer..... havent heard that in ages
It comes from the old Operation Wetback, back under Eisenhower.
Much older term than Gen X, would have come from their grandparents or earlier.
I'm from '69. Illegal Canadians = snowbacks🤣😂
All three letter agencies need a full stop to all operations, audited by patriots, and either shut down or dramatically cut down in their power
Didn't SCOTUS rule that federal agencies cannot make up rules that have the effect of law since only Congress has the ability to make laws?
Why aren't the Republicans shutting down funding to these agencies or suing these agencies until they comply?
Uniparty is my assumption.
Oh, ya. The jackass "republican's" want to fight against the commie-democrats now. But, most of those feckless cocksuckers didn't lift a finger to try to stop the fraudulent 2020 election that allowed this to happen.
So what changed? Take notice of what really changed in the article: They are only worried about the lawless commie-dems going after the businesses- their $money$ sponsors!
No mention of the little people, and children who Joe Biden is going to starve with this authoritarian move. No. They are only worried about "the economy.* when that "economy" is their political funding.
Hungry American citizens ain't their concern- But Ukraine sure as hell is; and their corporate sponsors in the meat industry are too.
This is just one of many examples for why the republican party needs to be demolished to its worse-than-useless core, and replaced with new, more aggressive conservative leadership to save our nation.
We the people can, and will force that change, even if we have to feed every last one of their corporate sponsors to the lawless commie-dems, and allow them to do exactly what they are doing here. Corporations, and industries, and other big $ backers of the weakling republicans currently in office had better wake up fast, and get on board with funding America First- exclusively. We see what is wrong, and we intend to fix it.
I agree ... They keep this up and haven't seen the extent of the "rural rage" yet!
What better way to force the people to start eating bugs?
First thing Stalin did was control the food. He who controls the food controls the people. I went to Lowes yesterday and was looking at their plant. A small tomato plant was over 8 dollars. Last year you could get a tray of 6 for 5.98. They are driving up the cost of plants so people will not plant a garden.
Same thing with seeds.
There are many good seed companies around that sell quality seeds. I have ordered from the first two links. First link, strictly medicinal grows everything on site. The seeds always come up and do well. Second link, rare seeds (Baker Creek) are more widely known and have a big following. They did well for me also. The other links I have saved as just in case. I found the links searching dedicated sites listing organic/non gmo small small seed companies.

They are doing people a favor with that $8 tomato. The only resemblance to a tomato in a grocery store is the color and the tomato shape. Green house grown tomatoes are tasteless and mushy. I do agree with you they are pricing people out of buying groceries.
Support your local small garden centers. I get your point 100%. A lot of communites also have heirloom seed clubs which give away free seeds or cheap seeds for those who want to start at that level. I am with you as far the big business and the government NOT pushing people to plant gardens.
We're going to do a raised bed garden this spring. We dont have a ton of room, but enough that I can plant something basic like tomatoes, onions, peppers, beans and taters. We're also getting into canning, to save the excess that we have as well. We need to fight back and get prepared, gardening is one way to protect our health and secure food.

I believe it is time for each rural community to start up a farm co-op or network. This should never have died out and is greatly needed to combat these lunatics.
Got a link Fren? Easier to share for normies.
https://americanliberty.news/commentary/new-biden-rule-shuts-down-food-processing-plants-across-rural-america/dferguson/2024/03/ Sorry, I thought was in the story.
No worries Aslan! The link was indeed in the post!
Plant workers need to arm themselves and maintain production. This is horse shit!
Would they try to pull a WACO on the plants.
Support your local Amish
🖕the EPA. The only thing they are protecting is politicians bank accounts.
Everytime someone post "we're at the precipice" I laugh and say oh yeah hold my beer. We're not their yet.
It's so obvious they are trying to destroy our country.
In so many ways & levels, wake up nomies!
FAFO you cunts
Wasnt there a SCOTUS case just last year or the year before that forbade these agencies from making these rules that act like defacto law bypassing congress?
That’s right!?
Do you remember the case name? Wasnt that also an EPA case? West Virginia was involved too.
I see a Reuters article from 6-30-22 “Reuters Article U.S. Supreme Court limits federal power to curb emissions.” It was an EPA case.
Forgive my curiosity but which food plants have shut down due to the new rule?
Should the title read "Will shut down" ?
what, burning them down hasn't done the job yet?
