My departed wife had countless different forms of chemo in her 5 year battle with cancer in her 30s. She never looked like that. No matter the chemo, it was always a poison that make her look, feel, and act drained. Even in here best of times during cancer, her face changed dramatically. She and Princess Anna are very well-known for reusing their clothes! Anne just wore a dress and coat from the 70s. Kate has very often worn the same dresses and gowns to more than one event and her casual clothing is often reworn again and again.
In my opinion, Kate is extremely thin, and is choosing the horizontal stripes to disguise that - knowing that the camera generally makes a person look at least 10 pounds heavier than they are, she is trying to disguise a figure that looks as if she has an eating disorder.
