Growing up in the rural midwest, we had a kid in my high school who played basketball on the team. Probably around 15 or 16 years of age and collapsed on the court during a game with a neighboring school. Being rural in the late 80's, fire and ems were and still are all volunteer. Took some time for ems to get there.
The kid died there on the basketball court. What made it worse was his dad was the basketball coach. Once the funeral and everything else was over, it came out the kid was born with a defective heart condition. Not sure if an AED would have made a difference if it was available at that time or not. Hate to speculate on that as he was a good kid, farm born and raised.
Back then didn't have to worry about the jabby-jabs. Not sure how I feel about all of this, especially in rural schools that don't have dedicated resources.
i was just talking to my friend (today) about, how we the people, have to donate money (not tax money) to be used for fire depts, EMS, services, etc., when they are sending billions and billions of dollars over seas. we just had an ambulance company shut down a few months ago in a nearby rural area from lack of funds. it's bullshit.
i seen a sign down the road that they were having a donation dinner for our fire dept, that's what prompted the discussion.
You are spot on. Our volunteer fire department and ems held pancake breakfasts, a fish fry, spaghetti dinner and every year a fireman's ball just to keep the fire department operational. Of course rural farm country everyone stepped up to assist the best they could. In rural small towns, it became not who attended and donated, but who did not....it just came down to that.
Small rural departments are now hurting for volunteers. I'd encourage everyone who is rural, go down a see what your fire department is about and volunteer. It is the drive of the American spirit that built our country and without it, we are sunk.
why aren't people rising up every time one dime is sent to another country when our own people are losing our most precious resources, fire depts, ems, etc?? i'm tired of it.

Yes, things like this did happen but they were very rare and it was always a terrible shock. Nowadays, people act like it's normal and a certain amount are simply to be expected. Horrible.

Firearms/shootings, overdoses and car accidents are by far the biggest causes of deaths for school aged kids in our nation.
Rather than worrying about cardiac problems, maybe Michigan should focus on getting tough on drugs instead.

Tennessee schools have had this for a decade. I know for a fact it’s been at least 10 yrs, maybe more. We assume it’s for the problems of the vaccinated..which I’m sure are related. But as I’ve said, nothing new to some schools areas.

When I was in high school (mid 90s), I knew only one kid who had a heart attack. Nice kid, 15, rather overweight, and a really dedicated student (he was Indian). The official story was that he overworked himself studying and not sleeping, and just keeled over and died. I never heard whether he had an underlying heart condition, but it would make sense that he did. Either that or he had had too much caffeine to stay awake.
Are They waiting a year to see how many kids can be harmed before it goes into effecr.
