FWIW, there’s an interesting study that came out in 2022 that theorizes the danger of mask wearing for the exact same reason - exhaled COVID virus particles get trapped inside the mask and eventually are inhaled deeper into the lungs, which would in turn make the illness much worse.
I remember reading back then (sorry, no sauce) that researchers were trying to figure out why they were finding COVID-19 in some patients’ blood samples. One of the theories discussed was that the virus was crossing over into the bloodstream via the oxygen-blood transfer process in the alveoli of the lungs. If this is true, then this could possibly explain the Foegen Effect.
DARPA has done some really intriguing and groundbreaking research over the years. Its involvement isn't necessarily the red flag we think it is. And since the research does have direct implications for soldiers who may end up facing biological warfare attacks, they have a legitimate interest in the research.
The NIH funds 2/3s of all medical research in this country, so that's not quite the red flag we think it is either.
For me, the red flags are Billy Gates and CDC. CDC lied to me too many times with COVID, and I'm beyond tired of deconstructing their Bravo Sierra commentary when it comes to respiratory disease. They're trying to cover their backsides and pretend like they didn't change all of their definitions and statistical methodologies to push the COVID hoax by now acting like all of that was normal and good science.
I haven't read the study yet, but I'm going to guess right now that its methodology is highly specific and tailored to produce this result, and that this methodology looks absolutely nothing like real world use of these devices. If people don't wear them right, you don't get the advertised benefits.

If this were true they wouldn't wear hazmat suits with a private air supply when working with suspected airborne respiratory viruses. If covid exists at all, it can get in via your eyes, ears, mouth, & nose.
Depends on which type you wear. The ones I had to suffer with when I worked in the hospital definitely had no such vent. You put that mask on like a vice and breathed hard through it. You got used to that slight lightheadedness and were grateful when you were done with the patient who required it so you could take the damn thing off. And that's if you were insistent on doing it the right way and didn't cheat it.
I don't even have to look at the study to know it has made some really key assumptions that would not exist in real world use, such as:
the N95 mask has to be fitted to the face and worn tightly. It's uncomfortable and restricts breathing. Even trained people frequently demonstrate poor technique.
the N95 mask (any filter really) will become saturated at some point and must be changed. In the community, people don't change their mask every 2 hours or if they cough/sneeze/saturate the mask with droplets.
For those two reasons alone, every study that I've seen that has ever shown success with these masks in a highly controlled lab or clinical environment fails in the real world. Studies which test the masks under real world conditions always fail.
I will not comply with this garbage. I'm not going back to it. If you've got respiratory symptoms, stay home. If you have to go out and are coughing/sneezing/whatever, then wear a mask to control your own spreading of the disease. If you have TB, you wear the damn N95 and take your meds, regardless of what color they turn your pee. But for general use in perfectly healthy people, the answer's no.

I had friends and family turn around in our front lawn after reading my sign stating absolutely no masks allowed on our property and no vaccine sermons. You don't wear a mask because you don't want to get sick, you wear it so that you reduce the odds of others getting sick.
Do masks work in that regard? Well they do to some extent limit some particles (depending on size) spreading while talking, coughing, sneezing, etc. Maybe there's a marginally lower risk of being infected by someone who is ill that's wearing a mask. Maybe short interactions might be fine, but I still wouldn't want to be in close proximity to them for any extended period of time. Or really at all, stay the fuck home if you're sick or otherwise stay away from other people.
