Without a doubt, we're watching a movie, but not everything we see is by script. Bad actors are probably trying to control the script and narrative, but they've lost too much control. We get to tell the end of this story, not them. Road bumps abound, we will still win.
Just look at who controls the Secret Service -- Mayorkas. Would you trust them?
That said who was in charge of the perimeter? They looked kind of bad on the stage, but that was not where the real failure took place.

If the USSS was "under manned" for the rally, and it was known throughout the govt (and most likely was), other agencies would step in to provide protection assistance or their agents would be allowed to volunteer their services. Happens all time with the military and the LEO community at all levels, so there isn't any reason to think it would be any different here. Especially since who the protectee is.

If Trump perceived he would be stripped of his SS detail, he still gets the benefit of the US Marshals because it being the police arm of the Judiciary system (think all the trials he's been through), they have an obligation to protect him. So lawfare benefits him in a way I haven't thought of yet. If I'm correct.
I think this was posted on the chans a while back and may have been posted here about him using USM instead of SS, but it wasn't seen of as a thing at the time, actually an advantage
