I'm through saying "they wouldn't do that!!" I'm stunned by this response from the feds and NC government.
With this area being mountain folk “hillbilly” (not my words) I can see this happening. Same with isolated coastal communities in NC, SC & GA. The same type of people live in both areas, resilient communities from generations back. You should see the Trump flags in the poorer coastal area of Eastern NC coast. Just wait until they are told this and especially the government isn’t getting the dead out.

I dont think bodies should be a priority other than to mark and record when you are in a rescue operation going after the living who are getting into the zone of dying do to exposure, starving etc. Why spend 3-4 hours processing the dead when you SHOULD spend those hours reaching those that need rescuing That should be the MO if rescue resources are limited or if it takes time to get to those in need. Living first, dead second. Hard truth.
Also, Apaches dont do rescue. Recon maybe, but not rescue. Might as well ask for A-10's and ballistic missiles to help with the recovery process. I dont think it's the 82'nds job to do stuff like this, in fact historically there have been some issues, this is a national guard thing.
Edit: I just checked, the 18th Airbrone corps, which includes the 82nd, is on the way to NC to help out. So here they come. This was as of Oct. 2nd so since the article, the mentioned stand down order would have had time to be something that could have happened.
I've got 3 buddies that all volunteer trail maintaince, certified sawyers with USFS. We have gear and side by sides. We have done corridor clearing for years. I've offered our help, but govt says we aren't "Credentialed First Responders". Now I'm off-loading planes owned by civilians delivering donations. Habitat for Humanity trucks are supposedly delivering to Chimney Rock vicinity and other areas. If not, hell will follow the officials
82nd Combat Aviation Brigade consists of a lot more than just Apaches. Lots of Chinooks and Blackhawks, including a whole company of medevac Blackhawks with rescue hosts.
Maybe it's my general unease about what I see coming from stuff like this. Maybe my mind won't allow me to crack... But whatever it is, may I offer a different, but equally disturbing option?
Is it possible something was detonated, or released in the area to ensure that nobody made it out alive? And that's the reason nobody is allowed to go there?
Wouldn't a hurricane be a perfect cover for a gaseous agent to be released?

You do both at the same time, you recover remains and you provide help and rescue to those that need it.
To completely ignore the bodies is to invite massive disease into the area and it will end up poisoning waterways and other areas.
