Suggestion: The 80% reduction is not entirely real. The letters are still being posted but USPS is not delivering as many Republican ballots as it receives so the numbers look low.
The extra staff are required to filter out those Republican ballots!
(I think I am becoming too cynical in my old age!)
I listened to Juan O Savin on YT with Nino yesterday and he said, on election day there were ballots in trucks at post offices that ended up not making it into the count during the election because some people figured out "they didn't want to spend the rest of their lives in prison". He said something about them ending up in trash trucks. That makes me wonder if President Trump's garbage truck ride was a multi-level troll of the cabal.
I was thinking it was just because of the babe behind Rand Paul. Rand would actually move out of frame occasionally, but the camera never moved. It stayed steady, locked on keeping her in the left portion of the frame.
The USPS has operated at a loss since 2007. From 2008 to 2018, it reported $69 billion in losses. For the 2019 fiscal year, it lost $8.8 billion on $71.1 billion of operating revenue.
In the CARES Act, Congress provided a $10 billion emergency loan to the USPS.
The House of Representatives passed a bill on August 22 to provide $25 billion in additional government funding to the Postal Service.
For FY2024, the President’s budget includes a request of $75.5 million for the Postal Service Fund ''
Both the President’s budget and the USPS FY2024Congressional BudgetSubmissionrequest an additional $307.224 million
Additionally, the President’s budget requests $157.575 million to reimburse USPS
H.R. 4664would provide $35.4millionfor the PSF, which is $14.83 million below the FY2023 enacted appropriationand $40.1 million below the amount requested. S. 2309would provide $50.3 million
For FY2024, the USPSOIG and the President request $290.579million be transferred from the Postal Service Fund for the USPSOIG
The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a bill on Tuesday to provide the Postal Service (USPS) with about $50 billion in financial relief
Fair enough I meant they don’t get tax dollars directly since the 70’s people still think that’s the case. but the losses are all only because congress has made it impossible to make any money and has hamstrung usps for decades. Why should usps pre fund retiree benefits 50 years into the future? That makes no sense.
Why can’t usps make money on packages? Because they can’t raise prices without congressional approval. How does it make sense that if you have a small package it costs like $12 to ship ups but you can ship it usps for $6?
Imagine trying to run a business but you’re legally not allowed to raise prices when costs go up. With that being said, usps is one of the worst run businesses in the entire country by far. Every manager needs to be removed and replace some with competent people. It’s classic govt where nothing matters except trying to make numbers look good so you can get a bonus regardless of if it costs the post office millions. It’s really such a fucking disaster.
The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) released an independent actuarial report on June 30 which confirms that the Postal Service was overcharged $50-$55 billion for payments to the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) between 1972 and 2009. The report recommended an “adjustment” of $50-$55 billion in favor of the Postal Service
The whole thing is a shit show BECAUSE it is government-run.
The Constitution allows the feds to run a post office. That made sense back then.
But when Lysander Spooner tried to operate a competing company to deliver mail, the courts ruled that no private company could compete for local delivery.
That should change.
Let the private sector find a way to compete.
USPS is "private in name only," because it is bailed out with taxpayer money when it can't pay its bills.
GM had a similar problem with legacy retirement payouts.
USPS should have to figure it out, too, rather than getting Big Daddy Gov't to pay its bills.
Trust me I know because I work there. It’s a shit show. But playing devils advocate. Allowing competition will further drive up prices. Stamps would be $2 or something. Mailing a large envelope would probably cost the same as parcels. Probably $5+ and it would be delivered by Haitian migrants who would probably steal as much as they deliver lol.
But again usps can’t figure it out because they can only raise prices by whatever congress allows
Plus, stand in line at any USPS office and it is worse than the DMV sometimes.
Nobody really wants to work, it seems.
The service sucks.
If they need to raise prices and they can't due to Congress, then that is because it is government-run, and not a real private company.
If Hatian migrants -- or anyone else -- would steal from the company or the customers, that is only allowed because it is government-run.
You dont' have that problem in the private sector, or at least not enough to matter.
Sure, people stole from Walgreens and similar businesses, due to the government allowing it ("steal less than $950 and we won't prosecute). So, the companies eventually responded by LEAVING.
The private sector will figure something out because they don't have the guns to point at people to steal their money to subsidize horribly-run operations.
Just open it up to competition. Until then, there is no way to really know how badly it is run.
This is why communism can never work (and never has): There is no price mechanism to drive business decisions. The decisions are always political, not economic, and that ruins any chance of financial success.
Anyway, we have beaten a dead horse here. My point: Congress does bail out the USPS, which operates at a loss every year.
Yeah I think it’s hard to fathom if you don’t work here. If privatized one or more will happen
Drastically higher prices
Drastically lower wages
Drastically reduced service.
There’s simply no other way for it to work without one or all of these happening.
I hope doge does something but my money is on nothing happening because of all the stuff we’ve just talked about. It’s so ridiculous because only congress can fix it but also without major overhaul, congress can’t fix it lol.
I’m working 3 hours overtime today because of how poorly run this place is. And I’m not on the overtime list so I’m pretty grumpy about it.
They can only raise it by whatever congress allows them to. They’re still losing money on packages because they can’t raise prices to keep up with costs.
The USPS culture is all about saving managerial positions and getting promoted at any cost. The mission statement "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" has been dead for a long time. They spend a fortune on administrative costs and automation while eliminating front line customer service positions and delivery positions. Eventually micro-managing doesn't work when there is nothing to manage.
The USPS around here does mail order package delivery as well. I think as amazon or whoever needs packages delivered the USPS is trying to get that business. Doesn't necessarily explain 189k extra employees. Most of whom are probably muslims. I noticed the library this weekend had nearly every employee was a muslim woman with her head wrapped wtf
I saw that same thing in Portland during my time there. Lots of Muslims work in the post office.
I was told when Amazon needs help, the post office steps in to help. Now, is that true I do not know. I talked to Amazon people all the time here (damn, I give myself away as a prime member) but Amazon hired many.
I also saw the last several years post office driving their official trucks around the neighborhood on a Sunday. Which was strange because I know they don't work that day delivering.
Shut the USPS down already. Private business could do it better for less. Most communication is electronic now and we certainly don't need all that paper wasted on ads that goes straight in the trash. Boomers and older keep the USPS alive.
“Can you think of a private business where 80% of what they're, you know, doing to make money is going down in volume that would actually increase their employees?”
Do an old management trick. Get rid of the post office... and see if anyone notices.
If 90-days goes by and people haven't begun complaining ... then they weren't needed. If people are complaining or can't figure out a way around the missing post office... then bring back only the few parts that are needed to resolve those issues.
The Post Office here, which is rural, gets all the handicapped people. Nothing against them, however they work slower, don't understand social cues, and don't communicate well. It takes them at least twice as long to do things as a regular person. Since we are smaller, we get the handicapped. Anyhow, misdeliveries, slow deliveries, lost boxes, closing early/opening late, miscommunications... I get delivery notices for boxes, then they can't find the box. It's insane. We are paying for this.
I'm betting that this is because you're seeing fewer things like letters, and more things like packages as commerce primarily goes online. A lot more people are doing things like online paperless billing now, and all sorts of stuff like that, so even though you're getting fewer individual shipments, each shipment is taking up much more space and manpower to process.
The letters they can dump whole bags into giant sorting machines that go thru a gazillion a minute. They've got massive machine specifically designed for this. The packages need more attention and manpower to process, and take up more space too.
A lot of this depends on how they define "volume". Is one letter that gets sent with a forever stamp the same as a 24" square box because they're both one singular "shipment"?
Letters are now dinosaurs. I knew it a while back. Right now many people are only using the USPS for packages (like you said) due to the holidays. Many people are now just using phone calls, texts and email.
Back in the days, many people use letters. Now, instant communications and so that's why they are not getting the volume.
The last couple weeks the usps is not delivering to me very well. I have that usps tracker/informed delivery setup. Of late I will see packages hit the city hub then they bounce back and forth from other hubs in the city. A few of them now just have a blank for a delivery date.
Thought it was a fluke at first but I am up to many packages now. I always believe if things happen to me then it is happening to many and usually try to be patient. Another week I might have to figure out what to do. Some things are very expensive I am waiting on.
I would not put it past them to put people in buckets and on purpose not deliver to those they deem an enemy. If it is not a social credit score thing then maybe someone has tried to meddle with my address.
It might be they have so much extra people that they are bored and have nothing better to do than to meddle with citizens mail delivery. I do believe there is much fraud within the usps and they steal packages in an organized way.
I would be making a racket if there are too many things not getting delivered. I am in good terms with my mail delivery lady (to the point where I would give her Christmas presents) so I can always go talk to people and see if I can get things done.
Nice. Good to hear you have a good relationship with the local people.
It will all work out. If I ask a question and get a generic reply I might reply to that hernia reply with something sharp. If they reply with something that is logical I will say thank you and move on.
This one wanted to explain how they’re not able to look up anything and how the distribution center works. 8 packages and 5 of them have been back and forth between 2 distribution centers many times and other cities. To me i was thinking I was hit with fraud again and if these packages were normal items I would have more patience, but I collect PM’s and use the usps for delivery since my area is not completely crime ridden (yet lol).
I am not special or entitled. Just wanted to see if they could see if someone is trying to steal my mail again. These workers are the entitled and special ones sadly. They need some training. Nothing I can do about it though.
I am a crossed eyed, darker skinned Ashkenazi Jew cross breed with Scandinavian heritage. I think they believe I am coming into the store with a chip on my shoulder when they is not the fact. The kids friend told me at school when I drop off my youngest they believe I am like an isis dude. I do not know how to fix that either. If they ever seen a real isis dude they would know better. I don’t think people are racist, some maybe, I think people at times are quick to assume and it leads to judging.
However if someone says something stupid to me I will reply with similarly worded comments with a smile. At the hospital the other day getting checked in for shots and the lady told me I was Hispanic. I told her that I am considered in the USA as cock-Asian with a smile.
One of dream jobs when I was younger was to be a usps worker. I would actually try and help serve people though.
Suggestion: The 80% reduction is not entirely real. The letters are still being posted but USPS is not delivering as many Republican ballots as it receives so the numbers look low.

You are getting old and cynical. Howls.
Bet you are correct though.
Ashland dog is that you?
Ashland will be back!
WWH1WHA
No. Just brain-dead.
Kinda like: Nail Meet Hammer time if you ask me...OHHHH MY....
All of the "squishy" .gov chumps just might be looking at a number of things:
The reason is a FEDERAL Law of ABSCONDING WITH FEDERAL FUNDS for embezzling, coercion, etc!!!!!!!!!
Yes, they are all looking at unemployment at the very least.
And my mail still goes on neighbors mailbox
so true
Junk mail requires junk employees.
Kek
Mail volume is decreasing while package volume is dramatically increasing. It takes longer to deliver a package then it would to deliver letters.
With that being said, yes the post office is probably the most poorly run business in the country
It is. Even in my 20, I figured out they were wasting money and tried to tell them and guess what happened? Nothing. 0
It's weird how Paul is framed in the camera.
Yes.
Yup. I e never seen anything like this, if it wasn't from a 12 year old at the jr high A/V club.
Almost like a message is being sent.
Like they want someone special out there to think to himself "that's not centered, he needs to be put dead center in the crosshairs"
It's probably comms
God protect the Paul family please.
I was thinking it was just because of the babe behind Rand Paul. Rand would actually move out of frame occasionally, but the camera never moved. It stayed steady, locked on keeping her in the left portion of the frame.
Was coming here to say this. The cameraman was mesmerized by the chick apparently. Focus dude!
Why not? Every other government agency MILKS the system. They want their piece of the pie too.
It’s not really milking though as usps doesn’t get any money from the govt.
False.

USPS needs to be shut down
Agree. Don't need them.
That's another 190,000 ridiculous pensions to be dished out down the road..
And get faster horses to speed up your delivery times FFS's!!
