Almost all the airlines use the same exact ticketing system called Sabre, so if it's only American airlines set it's down, just trying to guess if it's a technical or IT system, could it be screw scheduling / tracking / management systems? I have some reasonably deep airline work experience And I'm having a hard time trying to imagine what specific internal system to American airlines would cause airline operations to fail only in the American market. For instance, a failure in there take off weight calculation system would have global impacts, not just the United States, so I am really drawing a blank, here.
The issue was weight and balance requirements could not be calculated (Bloomberg)
Damn - they're talking about loadmaster issues. Loadmasters are people who determine exactly where to place cargo in a plane, including passengers, so that the aircraft can fly in proper balance.
Every private pilot has to be their own loadmaster so that their plane is not overloaded and/or out of balance.
Once when I was flying a small commercial propeller plane - United, I think - it was packed full and the pilots had two loadmasters come on board and start rearranging all the carry-on stuff. Pilots would not take off until they did.
You don't realize that loadmasters are a thing until you see them, but they are. And nothing screams "F'ng DEI Hires who can't do math or physics" until you suddenly have no loadmasters.
Sure, a lot of that is done with software but you've still got to have people who know if the numbers they're getting actually make sense or not.
I am also researching this like crazy and it's that's how hard it is to find anything decent, any speculation that makes sense I'm not really finding it
Just to narrow down the search I asked Grok And at least this is the list that I created which is the starting point from where I think it could originate
1. Weight and Balance System:
Failure: Localized server crash or malware specific to U.S. operations.
Why USA Only: Separate server for U.S. due to regulations.
2. Flight Operations Control (FOC):
Failure: U.S.-specific module or server failure.
Why USA Only: Modular system with U.S. operations isolated.
3. Reservations and Ticketing System (CRS):
Failure: U.S. booking module or interface fails.
Why USA Only: Different systems for U.S. vs. international bookings.
It could also be a cyber attack as well. It would definitely fit our expected Christmas narrative
According to grok: The FAA ordered American Airlines to ground all flights due to a technical issue affecting the airline's operations on the morning of December 24, 2024. The specific problem was related to a software outage that prevented the calculation of weight and balance requirements for its flights. This led to a nationwide ground stop for all American Airlines flights, which was lifted around 8 a.m. ET after roughly an hour. The issue came at a time when travel was expected to be high due to the holiday season, causing significant disruptions.
Well, you set up a system on servers that you know nothing about (much less whether they're secure), run by people who have no idea what they are doing, managed by people who are as stupid as Kamala, plus somethin' somethin' is going on in India, and guess what happens?
Next time someone complains about their company web stuff not working, ask them where the server is, what operating system it uses, how the firewall works, how the devices are secure, do they use end-to-end encryption, are they using Javascript. And, guess what, they stand there looking stupid, having no idea how to spell their own name. In case you want to know why web technology is screwing up all the time.

They don’t know when flights will resume. From abc: https://abcnews.go.com/US/american-airlines-requests-ground-stop-flights-faa/story?id=117078840
Thx for adding the good sauce
A technical issue grounding ALL flights...not believable
Threat maybe?

Whatever it was was shortlived. American Airlines planes are now taking off.
Fun fact - Sabre was created by an American Airlines president and an IBM salesman. AA used SABRE first and other airlines followed.
That is what happens when you deplane an entire plane because they were all wearing MAGA hats.
Not a single video or any proof?
I don't doubt it, but this story won't go anywhere without proof
Such a shame. It would be a cool story.
I dont get how a whole plane of maga supporters would allow themselves to get fucked over like that and NOT record to show the world....
They wouldn't.
Was that real? Dang
They probably hired too many DEI's.
That would be ONE.
That's probably what happened. When they said they were scrapping DEI they probably didn't have any pilots left that were hired on merit.
Article says grounding is canceled:
https://www.businessinsider.com/american-airlines-faa-grounded-all-planes-technical-issue-christmas-rush-2024-12
FAA stated 1 hour later it was canceled. The issue was weight and balance requirements could not be calculated (Bloomberg). 🤦🏻♀️ AA BS continues ~
No one said there would be math.
Probably common core math tech
Kek!!

This is NOT good.
Indeed. https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/american-airlines-says-experiencing-technical-issue-with-its-flights-2024-12-24/
Pre-scheduled Christmas misery
That’s what I think. Because..Jesus .

I can't find anything else on this yet. I'll post anything more here
If you find anything more, the post should get a sticky.

It’s fixed and they are boarding now—8:00 Central time.
Everything is an fire alarm for me, until it isn't. kek
Need moaaar DEI

Glad I'm not fling. Too much doom in the air around the holidays, especially nowadays.
C'mon now. We all know the real reason why you're grounding the flights. It's because of all the passengers wearing the MAGA hats.
Oh, good timing. I wonder who paid them to do this.
