I was never able to read one. Picked up one in a library and read maybe 50 pages. That put King on my permanent Do Not Read This Author list. Also made me wonder what people got out of his books, but to each their own I guess.

May I suggest Terry Pratchett? I think you might like him.
Pratchett's books are all very enjoyable. Unfortunately for us all, he is dead.
I know he is gone; it is indeed sad. So many far-fetched obscure side notes to things that I later on learned were real.
At least if anyone hasn't read Pratchett yet, there is great joy in store for them.
I know the name, and think I've read one or two of his works in the past. I'll revisit his work and see if anything catches my interest.

I actually think these are two poles of the same mindset. One uppers stealing identity and running with it. I think both genres are a broad mix of political views, but just like Hollywood, the music industry is controlled by people who want to promote certain viewpoints. Just an example - look at the rappers speaking out at how the CIA had a hand in promoting gangster rap.

I'm ok with them leaning the other way and having opinions, but when they insult anyone who disagrees with them, or promotes their lifestyle, or pushes their agenda, I want to know so I can also decide who gets my $upport.
Most entertainers are overpaid in a controlled market - i.e. iheart radio. In a normal market, there would be plenty to choose from and more musicians would be able to make a living or have a nice side gig doing what they love.
This is why Jimmy Page is a genius. Big band, no interviews, didn't air their dirty laundry. He had spent so much time as a studio musician to watch what others did to their careers outside of the music.

I was never a real fan to start with. He can create a nice spooky atmosphere in his stories, he can start a story well, and mostly keep it together in the middle. But he has never been able to write good endings, at least not consistently, and to me it seems he has a tendency to go for the ambiguous or downbeat ones because he knows endings are his biggest weak point, and both downbeat and ambiguous are easier than good upbeat ones. It's way too easy to fall for cliches when you go for upbeat.
I don't think he is nowhere as good as his reputation makes him sound as a writer. He has managed a few good scary stories, but even his best aren't consistently good through the whole story. But he got the push from his publisher, and with the legacy publishing that mattered a lot.
In fact, he can't write worth shit, and it makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with so many readers that they consider him a "great writer."
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: King is far and away the most overrated writer in America today.

Stephen King has a very dark side. Anyone who believes it is okay for men, i.e. fake women, to compete with and against women, must HATE women. When you look at the make up, dress and bodies of many of these trans, they wear grotesque makeup and clothing and are obese. If you think it is okay to indoctrinate children in sex and perverted sex, the LGBQT lifestyle, making them think because they like to play sports with boys, that they are different, then you have serious mental health issues. I have never read his novels. I tried. But a short story collection from long long ago has one that I have never forgotten, I believe the title is "All You'll Ever Need" and it was about a guy who was a spellcaster who collected little things of and from a woman he was obsessed with and kept them as tokens of control of her. Not always something used for something dark, could be protection, but in his case not good. Anyway it was and is conclusive for me about Stephen King's mind. The premise of his book about the pets coming back from the dead is reminiscent of the movie, "Truly, Madly, Deeply" about a guy who came back wrong. It is excellent. Alan Rickman played him
