The right to peaceably assemble. Key word being peaceably. Once it became threatening or violent, that right no longer exists. This goes for everyone, including U.S. citizens. Arrests should happen immediately.
Then I would have to look up the news articles. But from what Johnson said from his experience, the protest was explicitly threatening in a physical way, and the Jewish kids were cautioned to stay away. Khalil was organizing these pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian protests. The bottom line for Hamas/Palestine is the murder of all Israelis. These protests typically "stand with" the October 7th enormity. What more do you need? We have no need to tolerate a foreigner who supports terrorism.
This is a result when one Terrorist run nation funds/supports
an opposing terrorist organization like Hamas as a means to perpetrate war and dissention
Free Speech has its limits and this is a good discussion to have. I personally do not see anything wrong with protests. The problem is when you have paid agitators with terror links and the protests start to damage property. Or, hinder other students by depriving them the ability to go to their classes.
Enemies of the US have used this as a wedge to try to say we should rid ourselves of free speech to avoid these problems.
As far as I'm concerned America is not a foreign country's activist play ground. You want to protest for your country which isn't even America, go the hell home
^^^ THIS ^^^ ...among all the replies here, captures the essence of the issue. He HAS no Constitutional rights, not being an American citizen, but a foreign interloper.
Funny how all the (paid) protestors never seem to have the conviction to actually go back and fight in the areas they scream about(including some other country in war right now....) - they just demand Americans go fight for them while they get paid to live in luxury and scream from safety.
Well they blame Israel and the west for all their problems. He wants the right to protest, well, the Christians in Syria just want to live their lives.
When person A's speech prohibits person B from living their life and going about their business, that should not be allowed. That includes blocking people from going to class, blocking roads and entrances to spaces where others have the right to go (businesses & schools). Otherwise, if you want to say antisemitic things or anti Christian things or anti atheist things or anti Trump things or anti White things or anti anything things, go ahead.
Gross. You don't have a problem with those protests? They are organized BY THEM lol
These gen z schizos only muddy the water and make us look bad. Plays right into their hands
The more legislation they can get for more protection against "hate" or "hate crimes" the better for them. These people make it easy for them to paint us in a negative way that suits their agenda.
Not a single one of those protestors have even the slightest clue. They are fools. They can't even explain why they are there half the time.
I don't see this as a free speech thing. This is an obvious ploy to garner up enough actual hate towards them so they can socially clamp our nuts even more. Which will set back the discussions on Israel by years and years.
Wow, when did Johnson finally grow a spine? Good for him to tell the reporter exactly what he saw and how as the Speaker he will fix the problem. Good for you, Mr. Johnson!
Heβs by proxy working for Israel, who funds Hamas and the βinsurgencyβ over here.
They can cancel a celebrity in a hot minute for a verbal slight but canβt influence these universities to eliminate this nonsense? Bullshit.

First off, I don't know who would want to go to Columbia, that bastion of left wing ideology. But if you're paying the inflated tuition to go there, you should have the right to attend class and traverse campus like anyone else. Protest, hold up signs, no problem. Physically assault, threaten to assault or impede someone from walking between classes is wrong whether it's on campus or a public street.
I don't give a rat's ass whether you're Jewish, Christian, black, white, Asian, whatever, breaking the law is breaking the law. Columbia has a police force and should be well prepared to handle nonsense like this. If they don't, any student who was assaulted or hurt because of the assholes causing trouble should sue the school.
Not only that, I have come to the thought that there is no reason to permit "protests" on a university campus at all. It has no place. People without spines let it go on out of a misplaced kowtow to "freedom of speech," but freedom of speech does not mean commandeering property or means to conduct mass actions. The only reason it happens is because there is an available venue and there is an effectively captive audience. The university is there to promote an environment of peace and contemplation. Nothing that disturbs it should be permitted. Yelling, bullhorns, mobs, placards, discord...that has nothing to do with study or scholarship or a collegiate environment.
Public universities can not stop protests in most areas legally unless it escalates. Columbia is a private university and they have a lot more leeway to stop protests.
As a Foreign National Mahmoud Khalil does NOT have inalienable rights. If he was promoting a terrorist group & making threats of violence whilst he is on an education visa, Secretary Rubio had the right to revoke it and hold him for deportation. It seems British intel background checked Mahmoud Khalil which is problematic in and of itself.
The FACT is:
THE U.S. DOESNβT HAVE TO ACCEPT EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO COME HERE.
WE CAN SEND PEOPLE BACK TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY (or Britain) IF THEY TURN OUT TO BE A MEMBER OR AN ACTIVIST OF A SUBVERSIVE TERRORIST GROUP.
In the middle east, you can be deported for flipping off a local, no matter how atrocious they were driving. Like you'll be in deportation that night if the local whines loud enough.
Meanwhile, the same kind of people come here and bring their desert war politics and violence to our college campuses and it's a big deal to revoke a fucking student visa.
No foreigner has American civil rights. They are guest. They should never be involved in a protest period. If i invite you to my house you think you have the right to protest the way I run my place?
The minute any negative right (free speech, free assembly, trade, privacy etc) is used to prohibit or infringe the rights of someone else, it is at that point a crime is committed. At that point, the person violating the rights of another is treating people as things rather than people.
Eg: if you speak out against some form of injustice, or say something politically incorrect like "pick a gender, you only get two", that's free speech.
If you say a person or group need to be attacked, deprived, or threaten them in some other way, you are no longer exercising free speech. You are committing an act of incitement, and usually it's incitement to violence.
I follow the rule of reciprocity. If someone does good to you, do good to them in kind, ideally more than you received in the first place. If someone ignores you, ignore them. If someone does ill by you, that makes them fair game to suffer an equal level of nemesis.
When you are a GUEST in someone's house, you don't need to have committed a crime to be uninvited. You have no rights to be in their house. You can be uninvited and removed for ANY reason. Fake News propagandists and Liberals in the United States of America seem to be the ONLY people who don't understand that.
The right to peaceably assemble. Key word being peaceably. Once it became threatening or violent, that right no longer exists. This goes for everyone, including U.S. citizens. Arrests should happen immediately.
I haven't seen anything concrete about any form of violence or vandalism he caused, unless you or someone is able to provide something?
A threat of violence is sufficient for a charge of "assault." Refusing to disperse when requested is de facto trespass.
What did he actually say that threatened violence?
I guess you will need to read the news reports.
I've seen some reporting on it, but haven't seen anything concrete, which is why I'm asking someone to share what he actually said or did.
Then I would have to look up the news articles. Which news source did you see that led you to believe he was calling for violence?
Or look at.Schumer's pants.
Weird to get downvoted just asking for clarification.
But Im sure you already see what is going on here.
He just told you - what is wrong with you?!
Declare him Persona Non Grata!
I agree. No violence. Peaceful protest (I was there once) ok, but once violence start, arrests immediately.
Free Speech has its limits and this is a good discussion to have. I personally do not see anything wrong with protests. Yes.
He has a very large spine when a certain country is involved....
Ainβt that the truth.
Shill for the terrorist state of Israel and you get a Nobel Peace Prize. Mahmoud didnβt cheer on the right terrorist group, silly mistake!
Heβs by proxy working for Israel, who funds Hamas and the βinsurgencyβ over here.

Right.
I want Johnson to get busy and pass single issue bills as we were promised. #BalanceTheBudget I get so tired of the brinkmanship which we ALWAYS lose!
He is actually doing a little bit more work.

Extending constitutional rights to noncitizens was a mistake. They are not part of 'the people.'
That is why it is important to have this discussion in my opinion. The original framework was constructed around US citizen rights.
I believe so.
The press is the enemy of the people.
Of course. Been saying that for a while.
Peace is the prize. ποΈ
I prefer peace.
Islam is not a peaceful religion
Nice, now do anti-Americanism
He is doing a little more
Amen to that!
Speaker Johnson is developing some balls now.
Just in time too.
Yes.
Seems kinda silly. Donβt waste time or money on a trial just kick them out.
Rule of law.
