They hit a wall when the Vietnam war ended and didn't know what to protest about, but luckily enough (for them) global warming and ozone holes came about.
Then next thing you know they’re protesting in favor of endless war and not realizing it.

It is the media that drove everything. It was the media that covered Vietnam up front and personal to the point that there was footage of American solders being killed and injured in battle, and it was on our TV screens. The global warming scam only began with Earth Day in 1970 though useful idiots such as Rachel Carson, combined with Uniparty members of congress, and the media. It didn't help things when a oil spill off the coast of Santa Barbara, CA occurred in 1969. It likely was the first crisis of Richard Nixon's first term as President.

What's funny is that they're the same people who were protesting against "The Man" in the 60's and 70's, now they're protesting for "The Man." And they're the same people who quietly went to the corporate world, benefitted greatly and profited from the boom of the 80's and 90's, and are likely the last generation to see the fruits of their labors pay dividends during retirement.
I don't know how many Boomers I know that retired fairly wealthy, but it's a lot. They live in communities here in FL like The Villages, Margaritaville, and just about every Toll Brothers built community in this state. They're moving here in droves, helping to drive up the cost of our suburban sleeper communities, while the rest of us are fighting the higher tax rates, clogged up roads, and sky high rent and mortgage prices.
The worst part of it all is that they have no shame about it, either.
Those are not the ones attending these rallies for $1,400.
For starters, only a tiny fraction of the so-called hippy generation were hippies or anything close to it. Don't believe the liberal press from then any more than now. I believe they're focusing on oldsters to purposely stir antagonism between youngsters and the supposed boomers. Because that's what they do.
It is a weakness for the dems that their base and leaders are mostly old and older!
But they're not. The people pushing this garbage aren't old and older. They're trying to "prove" that with selected photos, videos and news stories from their propagandists, perhaps even selected hiring for their protests yesterday. I saw actual video of one protest in my area and saw nothing but very young people and none looked or sounded like locals.

Truth. And from what I'm seeing here, it's working.
The fact that you can see all the busses parked around the perimeters in the drone images tells us all we need to know.
And the $1,400 paycheck they are getting (per an interview of one of the protesters who admitted it).
These are people of the perpetual grievance class. No matter who is in charge, or no matter what policies are enacted, these people will have to show that they are "relevant" and show up with sign -- some hand-drawn, some printed by the commie sponsor of the rally -- so that they can feel like they are a "part of history".... or something. I've been seeing these same disaffected people do the same things all of my life, and to be honest, they're just tedious. Inaccurate information, wrong conclusions, shaky premises, it's all part of the illogical goofiness that infests their minds... constantly.
My wife and I were watching the local "news" last night trying to see how severe the weather was going to be overnight (it seems to have passed), and tuned in just as they were covering the local "Hands Off" rally... attended by, it appeared, 20 to 30 locals. And there onscreen was someone talking to the reporterette and my wife recognized him from doing community theater years ago. She said, "Oh, that old queen, I'm surprised he's not in a dress."
Another funny thing about that local rally... it was quite obvious that it wasn't very well attended here, but they kept interspersing footage of much larger rallies from elsewhere (Chicago? DC?) as if to show that it was an important date in "the resistance."
You may hate your media, but I guarantee, you don't hate it enough.
