Since Ukraine and the UK signed a 100 year mutual aid agreement and gave the UK mineral access, will we have the USA and UK claiming the same piece of rare earth?
Probably. Zelensky knows it won't be his problem by then. As long as he gets enough cocaine for the next few days he's good. Speaking of UK, did you know that they promised the land which is called Palestine to both the Palestinians, the Jews & to some 3rd group too?
"The US and Ukraine reached a deal over access to Ukraine’s natural resources Wednesday, a move that Kyiv sought to solidify President Donald Trump’s backing in ceasefire talks with Russia.
The deal will grant the US privileged access to new investment projects to develop Ukraine’s natural resources including aluminum, graphite, oil and natural gas.
It’s been seen as critical to nurturing Trump’s goodwill toward Kyiv as his administration pushes to end the war that began when Russia mounted its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago."
Arguably, the current 'war' started with the Maidan and Odessa massacres, in 2014. But that was a civil war, right?
Also, arguably this 'war' started in the early nineties, when the CIA infiltrated Ukraine, only if was still considered a continuation of the Cold War, despite the fall of the Soviet Union, which we all thought was the end of that war.
Furthermore, arguably the rot started post WW2, with Operation Paperclip when the NAzis were transported to the West, instead of letting the Soviets deal with them. Canada, Germany, USA, UK all took them in, and recently, we had Ukrainian AMericans (Blinken & Nuland) running the show, with their anti-Russian sentiments firmly on display. Perfect.
Operation Paperclip was mainly an exercise in removing German technical staff, documentation, and technical materiel to America. This included aircraft designs and ballistic missile work. The Peenemunde missile staff were not in any way Nazi Party advocates, being Army staff and civilian engineers hired by the Army. They were glad to escape the defunct Nazi regime.
Once in America, they assimilated and naturalized and devoted their talents to the U.S. Army ballistic missile program, and later to the Apollo program. There was no trace of Nazism. Saying it would have been better for them to surrender to the Russians is tantamount to enabling the Russians to dominate in ballistic missiles and space travel.
This is a very odious and ignorant form of bigoted collectivism. All Germans are "Nazis"...just as all Italians are "Mafia." You want to nurse a grudge against "Nazis" inserted into the U.S. government---to exert Nazi influence---when no such thing occurred. The history is absolutely open and clear.
If you want to complain about the OSS / CIA retaining former Nazi militants, that's a different story and I have no cavil over that. But that wasn't Operation Paperclip.
"You" is you. That was your post I was commenting on. I'm sorry to have to explain that to you. I see you have no rebuttal, which is fine with me. Or are you just going to keep throwing out "Operation Paperclip" like it was some sinister plot?
Killer bot, not sure whe why you don't think nazis made it into u.s. gov programs but a few places yku can read about it. "A man called intrepid", "secret History of the CIA", "Gideon spies...a secret history of the mossad" there are historical documents those books all reference too. Even the KGB infiltrated the CIA through German intelligence when we brought many Germans into the CIA We brought Ivan Oleg, who when he retired from CiA was a KGB general. He went back to the Soviet union. It got pretty well documented during much of my training at Fort Hauchuca when I was in the mil.
Well, Whatever. I am not 'throwing it out' as some 'sinister plot'
Re: PAperklipz: I believe that the Europeans had had enough killing, and brought some of the Germans (and Ukrainians, BTW) to America to save the lives of 'valuable' people (As you say: Scientists, who worked in 'civilian projects' etc.) who were probably gunna get killed otherwise. That was the operation. I am not even arguing that.
However, that was not the only operation, as people tried to get out of Dodge via whatever contacts they had. (As they will again BTW. ). I could talk about the human pipeline to South America, or Australia or New Zealand or whatever. And that's not my opinion either. I know people who had NAzi contacts 'back home' during WW2, and are living out their lives quietly, right in the circle of acceptable oldies now, just as I know people who were active in IRA - when they had had enough - they came to New Zealand, and I dunno, go to the pub, or keep a horse, or get into gardening. Sing some songs. Drink something.
The point is: I was expressing what is the Russian perspective: That Nazis are attacking Russia - Again - and they believe that it won't stop until those holding that ideology are all dead. (i.e., denazification). They can historically show mixed armies of Europeans attacking them with at least once-every-hundred-years regularity, BTW.
Recently, Apti Alaudinov was interviewed by Patrick Lancaster, and was asked: "When will the war end?" and the answer was "When we take Berlin". That is not the official position, however. That's the general's sentiment (and based on historical facts). But, he is expressing the sentiment from many Russians, who think Putin is playing around like a pussy.
The Russian position tends to be truthful - the Kremlin propaganda is usually by omission. That is: The government are very careful what they say - if it is even remotely factual, you can be sure that it is well-verified.
Anyway.
Nuland had a sore (because they lost to the Red Army) grandaddy in the Ukrainian SS
So did Blinkie
Maybe those grandpas weren't paperclipped - maybe they were just lucky to put on civvies and hide amongst refugees. Who knows. What difference at this point does it make?
My only issue is Operation Paperclip, which traduces Germans who were NOT Nazis by any reasonable consideration. The rest I have no issue with, so I don't intend to argue over it.
A vital ingredient to these plans is the Russian reaction.
They feel that supplying Nazis with weapons means USA /NATO is at war with Russia. So methinks openly-stated weapons- or boots-supply won't work. Any sign of such an agreement and all bets are off.
Try again, the door is always open.
Meanwhile, the Russians will continue their 1500 Ukrainian/Westerners dead and 10sq km territory-gains, every day.
I'm curious how the comedians will take this. Bush had his oil. and Biden/Trump have their minerals? But Obama kicked off Ukraine and now Zelensky is the puppet face... Not a good look going after their resources.
I'm pretty sure what remains of Ukraine is pretty scarce in rare earth minerals. The most prolific mines are in territory recently captured by Russian forces. They still have a bunch of nickel, manganese and uranium.
Our biggest problem is the lack of refining capacity. Rare earth metal refining is extremely harsh on the environment, producing tons of toxic sludge filled with heavy metals. Not only does the US lack the refining capacity, but our environmental policies and love for our country make it very difficult to build out that capacity.
We outsource the environmentally destructive refining process, so that other countries poison their water table and we get cheap electronics and a nice lifestyle.
A signature that isn't worth the signer's authority? And enforceable by whom? The more one ponders this, the more it seems to be a morass of potential confusion and lack of legal framework. Would a Ukrainian court find against Ukraine if the U.S. had a complaint?
I'd say getting their minerals r a big deal especially now that we have yuge CHIP manufacturing coming here n lithium is used for those
How much lithium these Ukraine reserves hold remains confidential, but technical reports suggest it’s on the order of 160 million tons of ore and 1.6 million to 3 million tons of lithium oxide. If most of this could be recovered in a profitable way, it would place Ukraine among the top five nations for lithium.
We'll need to discuss the lithium with Russia - they control all the known reserves of lithium in what was once Ukraine. Nickel, manganese and other really nice stuff are still available. The nickel s most readily accessible and refinable. Also, there's a good deal of titanium and uranium up for grabs. Since we seem to have prostituted our uranium out, that might be needed.
Folded like a cheap UNWORN suit🤣😂

Seems like Zelensky got a lot of what he wanted. People are reporting that the money already provided during Biden is not included in the deal

If Russia had actually mounted a full scale invasion it would have triggered ww3.

And Ukraine would be dust
I agree. Just quoted the article.
So does this mean we keep supplying the nazis with more weapons?
yes

I literally made a comment with this info immediately on making the post. Did you bother to look in the comments?
Apparently not
I hope rare earth minerals are part of the agreement.

hopefully Q140 applies to minerals too
Bet it takes 50+ years to get our money back.
But it is a good start.
Talk about under the radar
This the first I've heard of it
