Trump is Truthing about using the nuclear option to end the filibuster and reopen government. But I think that there could be a bigger play involved. Without the filibuster, the Republicans could remove and replace Obamacare, pass the Save Act, etc.

Possible but not a good idea. It opens the door for bad things once the pendulum swings the other direction. It's best to keep the safeguards in place.

I can't believe how anyone who says they are a Christian can vote for any Democrat. Sure, at the local level, some Democrat may be a "good person", but by just being in the Democrat party, you are supporting all the evil they promote and perpetuate.
Yep. I tried to allow for the fact that there is redeemable thought even there (maybe not now, but historically), but the party, and the people who’ve been pushing it, and the people behind them, all have to be kept off the levers.

I think they're just in the same position that Republicans were in 2008-2016. No charismatic leader. Populace disenchanted with the previous administration. Policies too focused on cultural issues and not economics. We ran two deeply unpopular candidates in a row to massive losses because we didn't have any great options. We only held onto the House bc Americans don't like one party in power.
That's why we're holding onto Trump for dear life. The Q plan could change that, but as long as there are two options some people will move between them when they feel like they aren't being heard or just tired of one. If the GOP gets big enough to where Dems don't matter it will fracture in two and one will just be Dem-lite.
Criminal and civil liability may crush the democrat party. What happens? I think a new party will be created or the green party will be taken over. It will still be the party of loose morals and free stuff.
My hope would be the new party would be the actual Conservative party and the neo-cons stay in the old GOP party whereas ours would involve heavier vetting. Guys like McConnell and Thune are closer to Dems than they are conservative, let's let them sit in the same pot.
Nice thought. With a crushed democrat party, we could rename the Republican Party, the MAGA party. And kick out the RINOS. And I like the lion symbol better.

The Dems already tried to remove it but failed because of 2 Senators. Their intention was to pack the SCOTUS. Not doing something because of the fear the Dems will do it when they regain power is foolish, they will do whatever they can regardless and they've already proved it multiple times.
Yeah, but nothing at all would stop the Dems from removing the filibuster when they return to power. That's a dead certainty. Might as well do it while we have power.

I've never understood why a simple majority wouldn't decide a matter anyway. All the filibuster does is delay the inevitable vote, especially the way they've used it in recent years. Get rid of it.

I don't think it is a good idea but what the heck do I know. Do away with it, open the government and pass a spending bill that is cut to the bone and not worry about the Democrats. If they EVER get in power again, the country is doomed anyway. Let's get er done and move on.!!!
The real problem is that there isn't even a GOP majority with McConnell, Mulkowski, Tillis, Collins and Paul. It probably took just a few million $ each to thwart Trump. Removing the filibuster actually gives the Dems the majority.

A Judge just ordered President Trump to fund SNAP. How, exactly, can a Judge order a Republican President to make a Democrat minority in the United States Senate vote for a bill to fund SNAP? I am really curious how that would work. There is no money. It would be illegal for him to do that without Senate approval.
I always think, how would the Dems act if roles were reversed? When I do that I have an instant loss of morals and an urge to use every trick in the book. Pelosi would be drunk on the phone with her broker, making $millions. The lawyers and Judges would get back to inventing the law to suit an imaginary crime. Then I shake my head and say stop looking at from their position. Then, slowly I start to regain a sense of perspective, of history, live and let live.... Then I wake up, it's morning and I note how confused I feel....

Very true. If we lost an election, we could put it into law. Then they would have to control all three and have a super majority. But we should reduce the supermajority to 55 to make it easier for us the next time around. Of course I believe that we will hold all 3 for decades.

Yep. If actually become the minority in the senate, we just pass a law enshrining it. But I don’t think that will happen. If the filibuster goes away, we can pass all kinds of laws to secure the elections and have special masters for the problem states and cities, etc. They can no longer win without large scale cheating.
