Insurection act drops when the violence starts. The violence wont start until ice really puts the operation into overdrive. That is when tampon tim looses total control of the situation and trump has to save the good people of Minnesota from the violent rebellion. As of right now, only law enforcement is targeted. I don't believe it's a trap in the way most people see this. I believe Trump would invoke it only after a couple or a few Federal Officers end up dying in these skirmishes. The skirmishes are escalating in intensity the longer these riots continue without any tyrannical responses from Trump. And that's what he needs everyone to see.

It's a trap that can be sprung no matter what Trump's reactions or decisions are. And it can be sprung by either side. There is a path for him to take that involves enacting the Insurrection Act while also saving face and political capital. But involves the deaths of Federal Agents. Unfortunately, that's what's going to happen before any of this gets resolved.

Remember that the Act has been invoked numerous times in the past -- and Trump certainly has good reason to invoke it now. I don't believe doing so will be as toxic as some think it will.
