I wish the ghost of Audrey Hepburn would rise up and bitchslap this man.

Is this another one of those deals where a struggling company is told to do some woke thing in order to deliberately tank their stock, allowing people "in the know" to make bank on the shorted stock?

Here's another good one: Years ago, a bunch of complainers were able to get TV stations to drop the "more violent" cartoons, (the older Looney Tunes ones in particular). Their reasoning was that kids would be inclined to copy what they were seeing on TV. A similar outcry happened in the 80s with wrestling - that boys shouldn't be watching it because it would cause them to want to act out "dangerous" moves that they had watched.

But somehow, you can have little kids reading explicit books, or seeing/hearing drag queens reading books and they won't be influenced to act on what they're learning because...reasons. Kids magically have become completely immune to that sort of influence, apparently.

I've just read the first few paragraphs of the "badlands" link. Before I started reading it, I was wondering how the whole ball got rolling - how did a not-royal, non-land owning person in that time period get so much money that he was able to start loaning it out with interest? You'd have to have a large amount of money to start because you wouldn't want to put your own lifestyle at risk (if people didn't pay you back). And there it was, just a few paragraphs down - embezzlement.

Imagine my shock at seeing a banking system based on crime. /sarcasm

Her story is bizarre. She "just happens" to be driving by the school. Okay. That sort of thing happens. But she sees all these little kids and just somehow knows that they need help? If it was a "busy highway", how would she have time to see AND process what was going on? I think most people would be going so fast that it wouldn't even register and the ones that might wonder about the kids would probably think it was some sort of school outing.

If she'd said that she had gone over to the school to "help out" after she'd actually heard of the shooting, it would be more believable. But as you've pointed out, she wouldn't have been let near the actual site.

Bad lies and bad liars. It's almost as if these weird little things are put there on purpose.

We made jokes about this when Covid started. We said if we saw people start to climb trees and poles to get "higher up", it was going to get messy.

Odd that she even came back, right? All these people who continually simp for communist countries never seem to want to live in them.

Agreed. It's a funny photoshop but should be labeled as such.

There should have been hundreds (thousands?) of dead homeless people. Bad health, bad living conditions, no masking - it should have ripped through those communities like wildfire and that certainly would have been very obvious and newsworthy.

And even though the Chinese propaganda showed people collapsing in the streets, you are correct. We didn't see any of that.

I'm familiar with this type of argument. Back in the early 90s, when I was adjacent to our local arts community, the local free paper ran articles talking about similar tribes, only they were discussing what happened to the boys when they hit puberty. The boys had to perform fellatio on all the older men of the tribe as part of the ritual (and I honestly can't believe I'm writing about this online. Ugh.)

My point being - a certain percentage of gay males in the arts community were really big on the idea of being able to mess around with young boys and were using this sort of thing as "justification" that it was okay for them to do it.

And I'll just close this by saying that here's a modern woman with all the conveniences of the modern world - including the phone she's using to post this crap - talking about how great "primitve" societies are.

I can just imagine the quality work this will produce:

"It was the best of times. It was the blurst of times."

So the ICC has issued war crimes charges against Putin. Talk about indicting Trump starts up again.

DS seems to be mighty nervous about something.

honk honk!

So - what were the truckers protesting if it wasn't the mandates? It's a rhetorical question. We know the truth of it.

Built in the late 40s and opened in 1951? Were they using asbestos as fireproofing at that point? I know that they used it for insulating steam pipes and so forth. That might pose problems whether they want to just remediate the buildings and leave them as they are, or actually tear them down.

It's funny (not "haha" funny) that just yesterday, some government wonk was talking about censoring social media in order to prevent a run on the banks. So the average Joe/Jane shouldn't be "allowed" to get a heads-up on what's happening and at least have the opportunity to do something with their banking, but these clowns get a free pass and access to their money because...reasons.

I like this. In the mid 90s, when I first got online, I realized very quickly that no government would ever allow such a Free Speech platform to stand. There was no way to control the narrative. They'd either have to control it or bring it down completely.

And they did get away with their restrictions...for a while. But boards like this one and Musk "freeing" Twitter are in the process of causing a backswing. The next problem (as I see it) is with the Chat bots. Flooding any discussion with pre-packaged support or denial but in a more fluent, fluid way than using a bunch of Chinese drones who cost $$$.

I believe humanity is resilient enough and self-interested enough to turn this around on them. Again.

Imagine having this "trump card" in your back pocket all this time, waiting for the right moment to publish it...chef's kiss

I hope there are some nice letters in there from Rob Reiner and Stephen King!

Magnus Hirschfeld

Yes. It's interesting that trans people today know what books were burned but regular people don't. Troons are quite open about "all that research that was lost" and how it was a setback for them.

If you're not sure, check for wedding rings, especially if there's more than one person in the picture. One person might have a reason for putting their ring on the right hand but most people wouldn't.

Well, since Cat Haines seems to think physical violence is a wonderful thing...may I suggest that a few good Canadians get together and "show him a good time"? Perhaps a blanket party with bricks instead of soap?

No safe word, either, since he's such an Edge Lord. I'm sure he can appreciate that.

It was that sort of thinking that finally settled my mind on the Death Penalty. I was for it, then I wasn't ("vengeance is mine", etc). But I realized that, by allowing murderers to live, you're agreeing with them that their lives are far more valuable than the lives of their victims.

They knew that already - that they are "more important" than the people they kill - otherwise they wouldn't be murdering. They'd also prefer never to be caught and prosecuted at all (because how dare Society judge them??) but when they are caught/sentenced, it's pretty great for them that society is so "noble" to allow them to live, even allowing them the possibility of getting out and maybe killing again.

Nowadays, I'm of the mindset that we should treat these people as they are - broken, no longer entirely human and just send them back to God. The only other option is complete and utter exile and I don't mean "time spent in a prison with privileges". I mean exile far away from everyone, where the only harm they can do would be to themselves.

Ooh, I'll bet Putin is just quaking in his boots at this announcement! Some has-been pop stars have been ordered by their corporate masters to get out there and shake it for the $$$. So counter-culture. Much edge.

Good point! Why try to assassinate the guy who (supposedly) has no power?

Nice of them to let everyone know their plan, instead of...you know, just doing it. You can always tell a serious assassin by the fact that he blabs about it and gives his victim a "heads up".

There are people who get really upset when you do that (check their post history). I've seen people (on Reddit, not on here) get really whiny about it, as if it's some kind of "cheat" to look at what they themselves wrote to see if they're consistent in what they post.

The other technique I like is "Oh, I've had an account here for a long time but I lost my password and had to make a new account!!" Sure thing! I'll bet your dog ate your homework, too!
