The word "sin" as Morpheus11 mentions means "missed the mark." What is the mark? It is God. Man was made in God's image and after His likeness. He was made with a human spirit, a vessel that could be joined to God and filled with God, who is Spirit. Had Adam eaten from the tree of life, God Himself would have filled Adam, and he would have been God's expression. But when man sinned, he fell short of God's glory (Rom. 3:23). "Glory" means expression. He "missed the mark" of expressing God. At the end of the Bible, the New Jerusalem, holy city, appears. A "city" is many people under one administration. This city appears "having the glory of God (Rev. 21:11)." And God is on the throne in the city (Rev. 22:3).

The question is, how does this happen? How can sinful man express God? That is what divides the New Testament ministry from all other religions and philosophies. Through incarnation, the Triune God came into humanity and joined Himself to humanity. The Word, who is God, became flesh (Jn. 1:1, 14). This God-man lived a human life with all the human experiences, yet without sin. The man carried God into death, and then God carried the man out of death. In resurrection, the God-man became a life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45). This Spirit is now able to be joined to the spirit of man to be his righteousness and life (1 Cor. 6:17). Then He is able to invade and bring life & light into the dark soul of man (Eph. 3:17). He is able to renew man's mind, regulate his feelings, and subdue his will. With a transformed soul, man is able to be built with others into a dwelling place of God in spirit (Eph. 2:22). This is the city. Eventually, this life, the uncreated life of God will transfigure his body to be eternal (Rom.8:11). "Life" in English is the translation of 3 different Greek words: 1. Bios (physical life), 2. Psuche (psychological life), and 3. Zoe (the eternal uncreated life of God). Zoe first enters man's spirit, then invades his soul, and finally transfigures his body. Man becomes the expression of God in his whole being. This all begins when a person turns his heart to the Lord and calls on Him to save him.
