Socialism is an economic system. Communism is a form of government. Elites and despots love them both since socialism gives them complete control of the economy, and communism gives them power over people.
This whole "democratic socialist" label these communists use is a sick fucking joke. Communist countries are democratic. They hold elections. The choices are pretty much the same of course and the party always prefers one candidate over the other, but they're elections nonetheless (kinda scary when you think about some of the USA's recent past POTUS choices like McCain and Romney against Obama or Gore and Kerry vs Bush).
Democratic Socialist is absolutely no different from saying you're a Communist or Nazi ... They both use Socialism as an economic model, and socialism always leads to totalitarian rule mainly via Communism, Fasciam, or even Theocracies like you see in Iran.
If our education system was 1/10th of what it was back in the 50s and early 60s, these "Democratic Socialists" would have been laughed off the stage and would have never become a threat ... However, decades of indoctrination leads to outcomes where candidates like AOC, Bernie Sanders, and Mamdani are viable in a country with a constitution completely incompatible with their cause.

It'll be interesting to see if drug offenses for the big ones (cocaine, heroin, fentanyl) lower this year after the events in Venezuela. I'm putting aside the rumors of Spielberg and the little girl from Poltergeist for a second here ... I'm aware he may be a big scumbag ... it's made me lose respect for him overall. I don't know if they're true, but a lot of stuff I thought was bullshit as recent as 15 years ago has turned out to be completely true.
Being objective, I have to disagree with his 4 duds to a hit ratio ... at least in the 70s, 80s and 90s. I don't feel as if I was conditioned to like his work by external forces :-) ... I think a lot of his movies, especially his mid-late 70s thru the 80s, were outstanding.
His early work was incredible overall (Duel, Sugarland Express were solid films, but Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. (though I didn't care for it much when I was a kid), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom/Last Crusade are all classics).
The only shitbombs he had up through the 80s were 1941 and Always in my worthless opinion. While I certainly despise Whoppi Goldberg, I can't trash "The Color Purple" outside of exaggerating history to fit the film's plot.
Many of his hits in the 90s were movies I didn't care for (Jurassic Park comes to mind ... dinosaurs do nothing for me), but I cannot discount them as anything but great films. Saving Private Ryan was a masterpiece in my worthless opinion. Schindler's List was another incredible film (though I suspect some here will consider it fiction ... I don't ... maybe some historical exaggerations, but I believe Hitler was a scumbag socialist and his fruitcake SS did murder many Jews for their sick pleasure much like the Soviets to their own people all over Socialist political nonsense).
I will certainly agree that he lost something from the 2000s on up ... while I dug his War of the Worlds remake, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, and Ready Player One, I can see your point as clear as a bell ... I merely enjoyed those films ... I wasn't blown away by them like I was by his 70s and early 80s stuff (that isn't nostalgia speaking either ... to this day, I downright love that era of his work).
FWIW, I am pretty sure that there are a hell of a lot more talented filmmakers I know nothing about from the 70s and 80s ... in fact, I am sure of that. Hollywood got caught up in the "make everything feel good/wonderful" after the success of Star Wars, and Spielberg was a perfect fit for that kind of movie ... I like gritty, raw films as much as I like those "feel good" ones ... I also think it takes a lot more talent as a filmmaker to make a gritty kind of film (like a lot of Clint Eastwood's work) that wins the public over.

FWIW, Ive spent the past two years in a funk that I never thought I'd get out of. It has nothing to do with the state of the world per say, but let's just say that seeing hell on earth rear it's ugly head made me feel the same way you posted here and there.

I think we all know VZ is a major drug cartel hub. Drug Cartels = big time money for the communists. I think when all of this is over, and it looks like things are happening, people's jaws will drop at the number of politicians linked to drug cartels ... not just in South America, but North America too.
I've seen that over 8M people have been displaced from Venezuela. I was shocked that number was reported to be that high as I thought it was in the 4M range. The US got around 500K-1M people from there ... many of which were felons (and to be clear, not political prisoners, but the violent scumbag kind). I've seen people report that the Biden Administration flew thousands of the prisoner variety into the US while normal people looking to escape that hell hole were forced to walk.
People were trafficked from Venezuela, through Columbia, and up through the Darien Gap. The Darien Gap acted as sort of a sick filter that killed tens of thousands of people as it is rather treacherous terrain. Cartels benefited from cash travelers had to pay for protection. Dead bodies litter the entire trail. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that show, first hand, what it takes to make it through the gap (I highly recommend Bald and Bankrupt's Darien Gap video on YouTube ... he doesn't make it into a political statement ... he just shows what he sees).
In my worthless opinion, that trek the fucking elites basically told those people to make was one of the biggest human rights abuses mankind has ever witnessed, and it was done in broad daylight.
