I agree with your conclusion, but to me, it's more than target practice. While in college studying engineering many of my classmates were Iranian. They were among the brightest students, all of them. I became friends, they were really nice people. One of my engineering professors was Iranian. He was top-notch and would always take time to explain things to me after class, if I had questions. At that time, I had the hope that after I graduated our friendships would continue.
Based on these personal experiences, I have always wanted to see them made free again. It's possible the PDJT had similar experiences in that time frame.
I had completed a public school education before Jimmy Carter started the Department of Education. It has served me well. But my children, we homeschooled. It made for a fun and interesting family life that far exceeded the expectations I had before becoming a parent. No regrets. Now, they are successful adults.

Spend as much time as possible enjoying your child's development. They grow up way too quickly, although it might not seem that way at first. Live your life the way you would like her to remember you, and all will be well. You don't need to leave this community to do that, but it's your call.
As for myself, the discussions that I've bookmarked here comprise a valuable historical resource that I refer to rather often (as an engineer I like to check and re-check things.) I was your age when I started my family; I'm 73 atm. I'd love to do it all over again if I could.
