It isn't profit. Of that $118m, theaters keep between 40 and 50 percent (domestically, 75% in China), so Disney will bank somewhere around $70m. Studios also typically spend another 100% of the budget on marketing, etc. So with a budget of $250m, a $500m box office would be a loss of about $250m. Those other movies didn't have a $250,000,000 budget.
Or every incentive to pretend it's real. This is an area whose tourism industry heavily relies on it being the real holy land.
Today: "We are the real holy land! Look at all these confirmed, real miracles that happen here, like the holy fire!"
If a hoax is revealed: "Well, the fire may have been a hoax, but we're still the real holy land! Look at all these other confirmed, real miracles, like..."
Ehh, there are five figure purses in some of these major chess events these days. Also, the World Champion gets $750k, and the runner-up gets $500k. There's also a fair bit of online viewership for good, entertaining chess players. All in all, it could very well be worth smuggling in a small electronic device.
The person claimed that (a) someone owns GME, (b) someone else borrows GME, and then that means that (c) someone else also buys GME.
When you short a stock, you are borrowing it in exchange for an IOU. You are betting that it will go down, so that you can BUY the shares back and settle your short for a profit. If it goes up, you will eventually be forced to buy the shares at a loss in what's known as a margin call. That's where the buying in (c) is coming from.
I have seen at least the first ten seasons more than once, and I don't think that's right. I'm quite sure that that clip was from much, much later.
