We knew this was coming. Out of about 50 guys, half got the jab and half of us were against it. Instead of laying off all of us at the same time, they decided to start with the 3 of us that adamantly said no! The others said they would look into it, which bought them some time I guess. There was also an option to apply for religious or medical exemptions. But then you’d have to wear a mask at all times and get tested weekly. I’ll never put a mask on again unless it’s needed from actual harm. And I’m proud to say I never or ever will get tested for a cold. It’s unfortunate, I made good money there and still have a mortgage and other bills to take care of. I think I’m gonna have to leave NY. I realize the states I’d like to go to are probably non union states so I’m not sure what to do. Could use some suggestions frens.

Don't be concerned with the non-union thing. I think you will find that the benefits from your union are far outweighed by the amount of dues you paid. How well did your union protect you from Covid tyranny?
Good luck, Jobs are out there. I think you might like life outside of NYC . Welcome to the revolution!
I agree with this statement.
Basically if you are working non union and you are a self starter at accomplishing the tasks that are required, then you should be able to find work and do well. Generally speaking, the trade skills are in high demand in most places due to a shortage of qualified tradesmen. Also be sure to factor in cost of living should go down outside of New York and in many cases, quality of life may improve.
Obviously you will need to migrate to a state where these type requirements are not being pushed by the state government. So you are almost certainly traveling south. That should net you a milder winter season overall as well.
Wherever you end up, please do not bring the typical New York politics inclinations to bigger top down government control in all things with you. After all if a state is good enough to go to when fleeing New York, then it's probably a good idea to not recreate the philosophical government conditions in that new state that caused you to flee New York in the first place.
Good luck.
The dude left his job over a mandate and didn't even try for exemptions, I don't think you need to warn him not to bring big gov politics along, dude isn't fucking around. What you said comes off as a bit patronizing considering we're in a pretty damn based forum.
Not sure it went far enough. There's a lot more than politics that needs to be left where you came from. New Yorkers moving to Georgia, for example, will need to learn how to act. Assimilation is not just for foreigners coming to the US. Moving from one state to another can be very much like moving to another country. So some of us whose states are being invaded this way appreciate the gentle reminder.
That's just common sense and something you will be confronted with once you move. That's just how life works lol.
Im going to agree with pug here.
When i moved to the mountains I got a dog and guns.
Its just common sense that you need to adjust and telling other intelligent people on GAW is unnecessary.
I think what a lost fact means, or things I have heard from my time in South Carolina (a lot of NY-ers visit SC as well), is not just climate related or speech related. You have a difference in mindset. In NY everything is go-go-go. In SC everything is slow slow slow. People from NY frequently honk at SC drivers (they are really bad drivers tbh, more accidents witnessed in 3 years then anywhere I've lived in over 28). What is valued is different, some of those things have been slowly melding together, but mostly only in "major" cities like Charleston, rural SC is very much like what I described, but to the max. There's one of my favorite BBQ joints 1.5-2 hours north of Charleston that is open Fri, Sat, and Sun evenings only. (Living ~20 minutes north of Charleston, my friends and I would make it to the BBQ joint in ~30-45 minutes. Averaging over 120 MPH on the trip.) Things happened there at their own pace, and if you tried to upset that pace, you were in for a bad time. Sometimes, there was no mashed potatoes for 30 minutes, no one said a dang thing. When they came out, people lazily got up and mozied on over for food. As a northerner, I was usually first in line when the potatoes came out, like... finally people. It's not impossible to learn how to assimilate, in fact, I grew to absolutely love the south. But I had a number of good friends (not the street racer friends) who helped me assimilate in my time there (because of the military*).
This exactly. I've seen people talk to each other in a manner that would get me backhanded by my mama. A severe lack of manners. But it was normal there, completely offensive here. People are ugly to each other in the north. Where I'm from, a road construction area's sign will say something like "Please drive friendly".
Thanks for the story. I really really wish I was more tolerant of heat and humidity or I would move to the south in a second. Panhandle FL is looking really good right now, and maybe Tennessee. Unfortunately it looks like its the rockies for me.
I understand what lost fact meant, and I think what pug and I are saying is that all of it should be basic knowledge. I got a dog and guns because I knew i needed to be someone who valued or wanted to value solitude and self defense more as i moved to somewhere that required it.
Heres the loss in translation. What you and lost fact are saying is incredibly true. But its really not necessary to say on GAW specifically to someone on GAW. Most of us are intelligent people who should all know that you need to adjust in all facets when you move somewhere. My definition of intelligence is the ability to adapt.
Maybe it doesn't matter if we say extraneous things to each other. Maybe some people here need to be told basic things.
My analysis is that the origin of this thread did not.
My dad was an engineer and a guy he worked with moved to TX from NY. After a few months the guy went to my dad and told him he felt like people weren’t responding to him positively. My dads told him he needed to work on his delivery bc people speak differently to each other in TX. A month later the guy thanked my dad. Some cultural differences are harder than you think to change!
People in NY are far more direct. I appreciate it immensely as there’s no time wasted hanging on every single word waiting for southerners to finally reach the effin point.
Makes me sweat just thinking about it.
Agreed! You usually know where you stand!
My mom (grew up in NJ close to NY) is still frustrated that people in Utah talk "slow" & just go with the flow instead of getting loud & emotional when they are upset.
She also laughs about her inability to adjust better after 40+ years. At least she recognizes it.
I grew up in NOLA, TX, and live in NJ (for now). I used to get my feelings hurt in NJ because of how I perceived people being rude. Now I understand the culture better and it doesn’t bother me. My best friends from Brooklyn so I totally know the emotional and loud when upset! Kek! On the flip side, she now drives a Fordf150, has a Bible and dirt in her car, and says y’all! Assimilating isn’t always easy but being aware is critical.
You would think, but common sense isnt so common anymore.
That is certainly a lost fact 😞
Dude, the NYC elite and handout masses are why the Ds flourish . Most working class people and families don’t support any of this horseshit
I will say, as someone working part time for Lowes, even my bosses admit that I am an extremely hard worker. Only problem is that I am being worked full time hours without the pay or benefits. I plan on going to some of the big guys because I’m just learning that it’s highly illegal. I think the downside to a non-union job is that they’ll try to take advantage of you more, and you’ll have less protections. But you also don’t have the downsides of the Union jobs, which have already been discussed.
An objective observation.
My BIL was in the electrical lineman union his whole life, practically sang their praises and used to scream "rats" out the window every time he drove by non-union crews. His tune changed when he wanted to start his own outift and asked the hall for help. They basically told him he couldn't afford to pay his own workers if he went union and the other union companies would outbid him on the big contracts. He gave up trying to start his own company, but he also stopped screaming at those nasty "rats" just trying to make a living.
I have never personally been involved with union employment issues that did anything to benefit the employee. The employee never got what was promised for the dues they paid and in the end actually took it in the shorts. Unions may have served a purpose at one time, but those days are long gone. A union is only as good as those running it. Most are corrupt as hell and just another arm of the Democrat machine. It doesn't sound like the OP's union did anything to help him in this situation - so they can shove it.
You got a pension healthcare a binding contract grievance procedure Weingarten rights and dignity if that's not worth two hours pay a month your too stupid to breathe
I knew several people that paid their union initiation fees upfront to get a job, plus they had to purchase safely equipment on their own dime - taken out of their wages of course. Once their probation period was over in 90 days, they were dumped and the union kept the fees. Come to find out, it was a revolving door between the union and the company.
Some others working for another company were convinced to go on strike for better benefits. They were told by the fat POS Teamster Union rep that it would only last a couple of weeks. They were on strike for 3 months. Many lost their places to live and were behind on their bills because strike pay was shit. Once or twice a week the fat POS union rep would drive his Cadillac up to the company and tell everyone what a great fricking job they were doing marching with their picket signs. He never once joined them. Yeah, in fact one of the employees busted the fat POS in his Cadillac one day out with someone other than his wife. In the end, they got 10 cents an hour raise and lost benefits - including getting worse medical insurance and losing some holiday pay.
Also know several union employees that had grievances that their union did nothing to help them with, and in fact, the union hung them out to dry. Know of others that were skipped over for good jobs that were given to friends and family members of the hierarchy. The people I knew were given the crap jobs that only lasted 2 weeks, so they ended up at the bottom of the list again. Then, they had to spend the next 6 to 8 weeks on unemployment till their name made it back up to the top of the list just to do it all over again. After several years of that crap they would give up and look for other jobs. They realized they would never get enough hours to have medical insurance for more than a couple of weeks every few months or be able to earn a retirement from the union - unless they wanted to spend the next 70 years trying to get enough hours. So, excuse me if I don't have glowing report about how great unions are. As I said, they are only as good as the people that run them. Some do not live up to the promises.
You guys gotta union up
1199 has done nothing for us healthcare workers. I knew when they first came into our hospital they were a joke because they were giving out Biden Harris pins for the 2020 selection.
Then you would need to go further out beyond the Westchester cunty.
You know a trade. You don't need a union.
I worked construction for years but was only minimally exposed to union sites.
In that experience, I was doing my normal workflow when someone saw my half-day work and came to complain that I was doing too much too quickly, "if you keep up like that you're going to work us all out of a job." After a back and forth, what I was doing in half a day was 'supposed' to be work for 1 person to last 2 days.
Everyone needs a union.

GTFO of NY, and come to America. You will not regret it.
Florida
If you goto Florida....try the Florida panhandle it is a Republican stronghold.....you'll love Destin, FL and if you are lucky enough we might even let you in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, AL.
I went to destin a lot for vacations during my childhood :) It was a long drive from Kentucky, but it was worth it. I live in NC now so I’m definitely closer to you guys.
I was stationed in Pensacola for a year for my 'A' school. Best time of my life.
Carpenter? Go to Phoenix. It's hot in the summer but lots of work there.
You can earn a bundle just spraying the termites with poison. But wear a respirator and hazchem suit.
Yes you can. I have a buddy that owns a termite company. There's 2 types of houses in AZ. One's with termites and ones that will have them.
I got out of NY 6 years ago. Best decision ever. Look to the south. Construction is insane right now. Massive amount of people moving from NY,NJ,CT. Massive amount of construction going on.
I don't mind conservatives moving here and voting conservative, but generally, we don't like the massive influx of yankees.
Don't believe the MSM narrative. Red New York State is not blue New York City. They steal elections and try to convince everyone that NY is Blue. It is not.
Don't worry sir. You'll get everything back.
I'm non union and I'm the last man standing. This madness crosses over to everyone.
Side note: fuck OSHA. They should be demanding a stop to this, not being complicit.
They know damn well the masks do nothing. Ask them if you can wear it for asbestos removal.
Here's your chance. You work with your hands.you know how the business works.you know how to price jobs. Go start your own little hustle!! As long as you're good at what you do,you'll make money.
I've been reading all the comments. My ex is a union employee and he has never had trouble finding work anywhere in the U.S. We traveled all over the place. Also, you might want to file multiple lawsuits against union, LaGuardia, New York State and New York City for these unlawful mandates. Stay strong and hodl the line.
Move to Florida. I realize it’s easy to say that, and much harder to actually do it. But this is a war, and NY is absolutely enemy territory. I live in Maryland (super lib state) and we are working on our contingency plan.
Enjoy having more of your paycheck....
Yeah that two hours a month will break you.have fun paying for insurance
Carpenters are in high demand. Everyone wants to remodel and do this do that. Work for yourself and be your own damn boss.
Freedom > union protection.
You will be fine fren. Work hard, push through the tough times. You can do it.
I would think there would be a lot of carpentry work in Kentucky and Tennessee towns just demolished by the tornado. You might be able to start your own business. Maybe there are Federal funds for businesses such as yours.
find a smaller.union shop.in a red state.
I would suggest Ohio. Cost of living, and still a lot of union work.
Come to think of it wnat about union work out of state?
Good carpenters are in HUGE demand in the suburbs! People, like my wife and I, are looking to upgrade older homes they bought, after selling a home for a good profit associated with the current real estate boom. The prices we are getting quoted for things are through the roof, so if you could do jobs for less than the "going rate" you would likely have an unlimited customer base, at least for a few years.
Come to FL, tons of construction work going here now. Not sure about how good the union is for that but lots of patriots, few Karens.
I have a bud who moved down here from Long Island a few years back. He used to do carpentry, but now he's enjoying working for a major firearms manufacturer in Smyrna, GA.
I also know plenty of former NY and NJ folks who got into the north GA area around Hartwell, and they're all in the construction business. Tons of work up there, plus plenty of hunting, fishing, and lake recreation to enjoy.
"No real bagels." That's about the only complaint I've heard from them. They say it smells a lot better. Plus, you can probably sell your home, pay off your mortgage, and buy a house in cash with a few acres attached out there for how much cheaper it is.
UPS is union and they are everywhere.... I would think there are lots of companies like that- it isn't by state.
Unions don’t do you any good if the government still can tax all your other wealth and steal all your freedoms. Move to Texas and you can work or your own living
I don't know of union carpenters in the south but we do have unions down here. I'm from Mississippi and I can tell you landing on your feet as a carpenter anywhere in the south your in good shape. Carpenters are in high demand and lacking the numbers down here

F L O R I D A
I commend you on your courage!!
I've refused testing as well (based teacher) and now am on unpaid leave.
Not sure how things will shake out, but i KNOW they will shake out because GOD WON and will provide, but we need to ACT with FAITH. Do that, and peace will come.
That's a lot of money per hour. Remember though, NY is incredibly expensive and has punitive taxes. You also pay a shit ton in dues, gas, travel, taxes, food, clothing, shitty weather. Down south you will be happier, make less but be your own boss, buy a nice house with more than 5 feet between your bathroom window and your neighbors. There is nothing worth staying in New York for. Trust me. In Idaho they can't find enough workers. Same in Texas and Florida. Get out while you can.
Don't worry about the union. If you are good there will be work for you no matter where you go.
Head to Montana...Carpenters can write there own ticket out here and Patriots like yourself are welcome!
Move to Alaska, get your contractor license and clean up. I’ll hire you immediately, hard to find good workers here.
Not all red states are non-union. You definitely have pockets of union in Kansas and Missouri (eastern Iowa as well).
Florida has construction up the Gazoo! Just stay out of the Blue Counties!
I'm proud of you fren.
But if there is any location in the USA in need of skilled carpenters, it is LaGuardia airport.
I recommend leveling it and starting from scratch.
Time to head to sunny Florida!
All those union dues...
You should try it instead of believing idiots
Arent they supposed to protect your job??
Come on down to Texas brother!
May God bless and provide for you, Patriot. Resistance is the only path to liberty. Compliance is consent.
