By a couple centuries of fuckery we have been taught to not believe in our own sovereignty, and there are multiple layers of laws which reinforce that belief. Any law that takes away sovereignty of the individual goes directly against the implicit statements of sovereignty in the DoI and the constitution. But people don't get that. They don't believe it.
