They already had the ability to do those things before this. Abbot telling DFPS to investigate people for already existing laws doesn't contribute to any kind of slippery slope. The laws are already on the books, he's just telling the people at DFPS to get off their asses and stop ignoring criminal child abuse by parents who are allowing any kind of medical procedures to change their childrens' physical sexual characteristics. Sounds like he had to wait until the Texas AG got around to publishing a written legal opinion stating that sexual reassignment surgery and hormone treatments for minor children is child abuse.

While I agree in this case, what happens when Gavin Newsome orders California's CPS to investigate all parents who have not yet vaccinated their children over age 5 or have filled perscriptions for Ivermectin for their children for child abuse? These agencies wield entirely too much power and in general cause way more harm than good. I read a study a while back that said overall we'd have better outcomes without CPS intervention, even knowing we're leaving children in homes where some will be killed and assaulted, because overall kids are much less likely to be killed by their birth parents than by foster parents.
Thank God. All states should do this. I've always felt sorry for these kids. No way a kid should be making any permanently, life-altering decisions. And this should be a basic human right that no "parent" can pierce.
