Exactly and at the end tell them, “I’m sure you know the difference.”
I don't! I don't get this entire point of contention, it seems weird.
We are a republic that elects it's leaders through a democratic process. We are a democratic republic. Why is it wrong to say democracy but right to say republic even though both are missing a piece of the picture?
Because theyre doing the word thing theyve always done. Use specific phrases enough and the population believes them to be fact. The purpose of excluding "republic" is to promote mob rule and the elimination of the electoral college. They realize voting is their main obstacle and theyre attacking it on multiple angles
No, we are not a Democratic Republic. We are a Constitutional Republic that practices a Democratic political ideology.
The difference is quite significant. I would recommend doing a little reading on Civics to further define the two for you.
"No, we are not a Democratic Republic. We are a Constitutional Republic that practices a Democratic political ideology."
What's the difference?
I'm always amazed how lazy people can be here. A 10 second search, that's it.
Here's your easily searched info.
"The USA has been a Constitutional Republic since 1789: “A continual republic is a state in which the head of state and other officials are representatives of the people and must govern within an existing constitution. In a constitutional republic, executive, legislative, and judicial powers are separate into distinct branches.”
There is a difference between a constitutional republic and a democracy. A “democracy is run by people and republic is run by the laws of constitution.”
A Constitutional Republic is a system of laws to protect citizens and contain government. Tyranny of Democracy is not an idle statement. 51.1 percent may force it’s will on 49.9 percent in a Democracy! This is on display in the House of Representative’s current impeachment dealings, which are controlled by a Democratic majority."
Basic civics. Everyone should know this without having to ask, "What's the difference?"
Hardly, 99.9% of the time it's CRT, LGBTQ marches, and Snivel Rights.
About 0.1% of the time is about our U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, our forefathers, and how our government was meant to be conducted.
No, hence the suggestion.
Everyone doesn't know, not even remotely close. You not being able to explain your position without insulting and saying "look it up" is probably why.
Look it up where? I did look it up. Here's what I got:
"A democratic republic is a form of government operating on principles adopted from a republic and a democracy. As a cross between two entirely separate systems, democratic republics may function on principles shared by both republics and democracies.
Common definitions of the terms democracy and republic often feature overlapping concerns, suggesting that many democracies function as republics, and many republics operate on democratic principles,"
So how about instead of acting like some superior being you have a discussion?
OK, fair point. I come from a time when civics was taught in highschool.
I apologize for being a little aggressive, there's some here who do absolutely nothing but argue and complain about small things. The challenge fit the M.O., so I thought you were another one of them. Mea Culpa.
So, what you found was a revisionists attempt to dilute two very distinct and separate things. You can always see this when they use doublespeak to blow off the importance of the subject in question.
A Constitutional Republic and a Democracy, are two different things. Whereas a Comstitutional Republic is governed by a written Constitutional Law, A Democracy is naught but an ideological guideline that can be swayed whichever way the wind blows. Coincidentally, this is exactly what's been going on with our government:instead of legislating according to the Constitution, they've been legislating by Democracy (mob rule) only, and ignoring the Constitution wholesale.
One is very dissimilar from the other, BUT can be done hand in hand if done with the Constitution as the bar to not cross.
Thank you! I appreciate the information. I'm just trying to learn.
I understand we don't live in a democracy, but I'm still fuzzy on why calling a republic that follows democratic principles a democratic republic is wrong.
To me that sounds like a perfect description of what we are. Is the point of contention that it's what we ARE but not what we're supposed to be?
There’s too much of that on this site. People get downright insulted when you ask a question.
Only when certain basic knowledge questions are asked or challenged.
If on this site, there are certain elementary topics people should just know; why we're a Constitutional Republic vs a Democracy is just one of those things.
The problems arise when those who do not know begin prattling on like they do know and it just comes off as ignorant. It gets tiresome when you have to explain a topic, constantly, when the knowledge is at the fingertips of everyone.🤷♂️
Only America has the American Constitution, the unique and most respected and most important document ever written for a state. All governments and peoples of the world envy us our Constitution. Geniuses wrote it.
Rule of Law vs Rule of Man
Rule of Law: The Constitution (Laws) states what kind government we have (Republic), and to protect us, "We the people", with our G-d given rights, from those in a majority position. Individual rights are above the majority. It also clearly states how we are to chose those we want to represent us.
Rule of Man: Democracy is "Mob Rule" with no God given rights. Man (Majority) can make up rules to suit the ones in the majority with no restraints. Only thing that matters is majority. (ie... 2 wolves and a lamb vote on what is for dinner )
Another misnomer is " I have constitutional rights!". NO you don't. You have G-d given rights.
Sadly, today the constitution has been trampled on so much that it barely exist and we have allowed that to happen.
I am by no means an expert, but may I suggest you read the constitution, the amendments, Declaration of Independence and federalist papers. All are easy to read.
Hope this helps
Democratic republic? No we are not. You lack of understanding of the point of contention is why it is a point of contention.
Explain it to me then? So far the argument against my statement is "nuh uh," which isn't an arguement. I'm open to being wrong, but you actually have to convince me.
A "democracy" is 2 wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner. A "republic" is the sheep telling the wolves to pound sand, I have rights that can not be abridged by the wolves vote.
One post teaching more than twelve years of public education.
It's no accident that people don't know the difference.
No, we are a Republic that elects its leaders through a "constitutional" process.
The way we elect is by our constitutional edicts.
A constitutional process that lays out how to run the democratic part of our republic, right? And these leaders that the people elect can then go ahead and change the constitution, right? I still don't see how this means democratic republic is an incorrect label. Should we just start calling it a constitutional democratic republic? Would that make everyone happy?
I sent you a link to a video that perfectly explains the differences. Did you bother to watch it? It explains why a "democracy" is a bad thing.
Because we are neither a democracy NOR a democratic republic. We ARE a Constitutional Republic. Learn the difference.
Every single person says "look it up" or "learn the difference."
Are you not able to put the difference into words? Seems weird to hold a position so strongly, yet not be able to explain it.
I thought u/MordenGeist was extremely clear and thorough in his explanation of the differences between the various terms. How many more words do you need used to explain it?
Thanks. Some people get riled up by their own ignorance and try to defend it instead of saying, "thanks for the info", and seek out more info to dispel that ignorance.
It gets tiresome...
I just tell them of course we are destroying democracy, we aren't one. We are a constitutionaL republic.
That is why we don't need democrats.
any time i hear obama or anybody else referring to "our democracy", it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me...and every time i have the opportunity to comment, i always reiterate that we are a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, not a democracy mob rule country...amazing how conditioned some people are to accepting "democracy" government without a thought of what it really means...
This x 1000. Barry and his libtard minions love to throw around the term "democracy," and probably on purpose...because there's nothing they'd like more than to do away with the Constitutional Republic our founding fathers had the foresight to author and put into place well over 200 years ago.
Especially politicians today. Even Republicans. It makes me so frustrated when they say it’s a democracy.
Or that democracy itself is desirable. Tyranny of the majority anyone?
Dittos! Mob rule vs Rule of law? I'll take a Republic any day!
It's SCARY how many people here don't even know this....
This needs a week long pin to educate.
–Heckles, you need to watch this and educate yourself.

For the rest of you, please expose your children and grandchildren to this.
I mean we might have started as a constitutional republic, but we are not that today. What we today is an Oligarchy masquerading as a Democracy.
That's why we all need to correct people every time we hear the word democracy.
This will do much to change the direction of our nation.
This. Times a gazillion-trillion-billion-million. Plus one.
. . . and 17 drops of infinity . . .
This is also an excellent example of “gaslighting”. Teach children how it works.
That’s why leftist teachers don’t have kids pledge allegiance anymore.
And to the REPUBLIC for which it stands...
I have come to despise that word, as it has been vomited from the mouths of libtard falliticians and lying lamestream puppets for so long.
Long live the Constitutiinal Republic!
I remember my mother calling the school because my social studies teacher referred to the US as a Democracy. Mama didn’t play with our education, that’s for sure!
DRats and RINO’s NEVER even mention our Republic. NEVER. They wordsmith what they want us to think and it’s been very effective unfortunately.
The commies are always changing the wording and the way we use words. This has been their modus operandi for a long, long time. We need to correct them each and every time. One, of many, that irks me is 'gender' we don't actually have genders we have sexes. You are either a man or a woman.
Agreed!
we do indeed destroy their false democracy to recover our republic !
This is the Way
Some of you may be interested in the WHOLE video. In just 30 minutes you can expose your children/grandchildren to the core elements of what today's educa,....errrr,....indoctrinators avoid teaching them in school. This should be shown to them YEARLY while they're in school K-12. And even college students should review it yearly too.

I highly recommend this video!
TY for taking the time to share this...so simple and easy to understand.
You're certainly welcome!
Which is why we left and started our own system :-)
I beg to differ - the hard work started with the American Revolution! We left England and Scotland to get out of the monarchy and establish a new governing system. Too bad the system my forefathers from both England and Scotland fought for is getting taken over by Marxist fascist pedo fuckers.
But, I will say those fuckers are global now :-/
Slàinte!
Mmmmmkay, you have my sympathies, but we're talking about the United States.
if you're having to waste your breath arguiing shit like this just leave
yep, and then you can't even argue it with em
