I saw Highlander in the cinema when I was living in South Korea. I thought it was totally awesome, because of the completely unexpected storyline, messing with the head until you figure out what is going on about half-way through.
in particular, I loved the Messianic vibe of the storyline.
I tried to show it to my kids about 30 years later. We only made it a third of the way through, on account of the uber-cheesiness of the whole things.
Memories dashed, a dream from the past buried, an ideal shattered....
Seriously had no idea how strong the cheese was until I watched after 25+ years.
Same kind of experience here, though in your case (no kids here) you got to prove yet again how dorky Dad is, LOL. (I think in my case I may have actually showed it to a girlfriend, so arguably worse!)
LOL I tried to watch Excalibur at some point - back then mind you - I may have made it through it. I seem to remember it was a Big Deal in high school because there was (plentiful?) boobage?
It's weird, it's like it tries too hard for that argument to work. Whereas something like Flash it's SO cheesy it DOES work. Dunno....
Though I guess if you were to make the argument that the scene where he has her stab him to show he's immortal, then they have sex, I could almost see that.
"Do you cook?" "Why?" "I thought we might have dinner." Like I say it does have its lines.
This is true. That doesn't excuse them. Thing is, it was a golden age for movies in a lot of ways. Sadly, some of the cheese really mucks with some that could have been much better.
For instance, look at HS movies like Ferris Bueller or The Breakfast Club (most John Hughes stuff REALLY didn't age well). Even as hilarious as FB was, it's not at all realistic and it's too self-aware, seemed clever at the time but honestly Broderick is asking to be smacked through much of it. Contrast this with the highly underrated "3-O'Clock High" which still actually works.
It's fine to have different opinions about this but I just can't do the cheese unless it's Godfather's Pan Pizza level (are those still around? it's where we went in the 80s) e.g. aforementioned Flash, Rocky Horror, UHF etc. The accidental ones, not so much.
I cringe reading reviews about the new Top Gun comparing well to the original...the original is justified because Hot Shots
It was given when I got the front page about a possible link between vaccines and prions using the the covid pulse survey questions. Fuck it got a notable on the q 4 Chan forums.
It was made that way so you focus on the anon handle. There's Z-e-i-t-r-i-e-s-e and Z-e-l-t-r-e-i-s-e, both handshakes, then the "original" Z-e-i-t-r-e-i-s-e (with a pepe icon). It's basically saying there are three very similar usernames/handles and pointing out the original one who has been here awhile.
I suggest another new account. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you weren't aware of Zeitreise, and you have contributed some thoughtful comments, but you're always going to cause confusion with this name. βοΈ
perfectly executed!
Shills - "Q is a larp, Trump lost the election, nothing is happening!"
Also Shills - creates fake accounts to discredit our based red pill dispensers,
Yep, that's essentially it.
Not Anon Theatre, but a damn good movie!

Literally one of my favorites from childhood.
I thought it was so good for so long then realized how cheesy (if well shot) it is.
I do like the newstand or hot dog or whatever guy that's like "What does 'incompetent' mean?" "What does 'baffled' mean?" I do still use those lines.
And to anyone saying "but the soundtrack" - Flash Gordon yo. So much better movie all around.
"But overdubs" you say. Yeah all the CE spaghettis did that too.

Sigh.

The cheesiness is part of the enjoyment.
I like how Raiden and the Highlander are both in this thread

It was a different era. A lot of movies of those eras seem extremely cheesy now.

Yeah I don't remember what the post was but I do remember it was decently insightful or something.
PS I bet there's some double takes with the same Pepe in the thread here, LOL. "Front towards enemy!"
I requested mine, I asked for a rare metals gold/silver pepe and they gave me the golden hair of an angel Pepe
HA that is excellent
I never requested one, but I am so happy to have one. :-)
Yup, no request here either. I like the one they picked though.
Indeed.
Ugh, always missing out
Lul fake news
Hey mods can I get a pepe? π Please?
I think the Pepe maker machine is broke or uses too much space or that's what I heard some time ago.
Dawβ shucks π
This is why we have handshakes and flairs, right here.
For some reason itβs too large on my iPhone and I canβt see all the text. Can someone comment the words of each block please.
