Complete off grid power that has enough juice to comfortable power a small house or cabin and also spew enough juice to run your well pump.
The step up transformer will convert your 12 v battery bank/110 v system..... into a 220 charge
220 drains bank fast though. Better run pump in sunny day if you need it for more than 50 gallons
You forgot to tell him to get a current inverter, transformers can't step up or step down DC current, the physics of Transformers requires an alternating magnetic field from the primary coils in other to induce current flow in the secondary coils
Are your 4 225w solar panels for the pump alone? I'm off grid as well and have a generator to run the pump. I plan on getting a 100+ gallon pressure tank so all I do is run the generator in the morning to fill it and coast on that for the day.
But inn the scenario where there is no more gasoline, propane or there was an emp or something, I was planning on putting in a deep well hand pump. It's quite expensive but worth it imo.
Check the surge current on your down-well pump. It can be surprisingly high, sometimes 3x or more than the steady state current. You can check this with a current clamp meter. Then, when selecting the inverter (DC to AC) make sure that it can handle that peak current.
If the SHTF worldwide, the effects will be compounded. No help coming from nations in better positions. No escape to free territory (there will be none).
There’s a reason raiders and bandits are a staple of post apocalyptic/SHTF fiction. Also why Cannibalism and other despicable acts are as well. People go to desperate measures to survive and people break inside eventually.

He told me if shit ever hit the fan, my new bride and I would have a place there. I laughed it off at the time. As a young guy that was least of my worries. I look back now and realize what an awesome and considerate person he was.

The best general tip is to avoid anything that's dependant of a long distance supply line (oranges if you live in Wisconsin), for example,and invest on self-reliance, local businesses and community building.
One thing of note was to buy “wedding rings” that were fake, but looked real, in order to use them at checkpoints within the city to bribe the guards. Need to be a good actor to make it work…and don’t use it twice on the same guard.

I've seen some serious mormons talk about this on 4chan- their plans are very thorough.
Grew up with several mormon families. They would not be as easy of a target as you think. They ingrain self reliance AND protection at an early age.

I was in Iraq about 2 decades ago. I've seen what happens when civilsation collapses and it gave me PTSD for many years.
I think a must watch for people is the 1973 documentary called 'The World at War'.
It's absolutely brutally depressing, but factually correct.
