Correct. You are no astrophysicist. It takes more velocity to dive into the Sun than to leave the solar system entirely. (You basically have to nullify all your orbital velocity. Otherwise you just go into an elliptical orbit.) It's an error that is common among those who do not work orbital dynamics.

You can't get to the Sun unless you remove all the orbital velocity and can fall in a straight trajectory. If you have even a little bit of velocity left, you will simply go into an elliptical orbit.
