My husband was a volunteer firefighter over twenty years. I remember one day over thirty years ago they went to multiple grass fires from 8-5 because it was first of spring and people here burn leaves and yard trash a lot. The average person doesn't pay attention to burn bans. Heck people still throw out trash and burning cigarettes here, eastern North Carolina. I love my home state and the south but there's to many people that don't care about other people's property and nature.

The closest listed one to Lahaina appears to be the Kaua’ula Tunnel at 3.17 miles away (I haven’t checked the others) so I’m not sure how accurately (or if) all these tunnels synch up with all the fire locations. Worth exploring, but I’m running out of steam (tired) so perhaps someone else will verify.
