It's precisely the reason that Putin has adopted the defensive posture that he has in spite of his more hardline generals protesting to the contrary (they'd like him to simply storm west to Kiev and get it over with militarily). Putin has a degree in economics and knows that ultimately what gives the United States it's power and control over the world is the dollar. Once it's thoroughly devalued and we end up in new depression territory we simply won't be able to maintain our armament supplies to Ukraine.
China is also playing the long game and waiting for the other shoe to drop before making any overt moves themselves. This is how we won the Cold War. We simply outperformed the Soviets economically until they could no longer sustain their control and they fell apart internally.
