Human-driven climate change has 'slowed the Earth's rotation' and could affect how we measure time, study suggests
The melting of ice in Greenland and Antarctica is said to have slowed the rotation of the Earth because it has changed where the planet's mass is concentrated.
Tell me how that affects rotation again?
How does a ball 'spin faster' with ice at the ends?
How does a ball 'spin slower' if it is not frozen at the ends?
In any case, the Earth has had periods of NO ice at the poles, when humans were not even there, making nasty car fumes. Explain that.
Furthermore, the literature suggest that CO2 has nothing to do with it - that it follows the temperature rather than driving it. This may explain why ((they)) are trying to find a different reason for the ice melting, but the spinning of the Earth is new one.
P.S. Just to prove that the CO2 nonsense is well and truly over:
https://cp.copernicus.org/articles/18/1729/2022/
You're talking about people who don't comprehend that there's one total volume of water on Earth and that's it. At any one time, some of it is frozen and some of it is waiting to fall back down from the sky, but it doesn't 'increase' because of globollocks warming.
These people do not even think ice and water are the same thing. If ice melts it is 'gone'.
Maybe we can get Aquaman to call all the shrimp in the ocean to one side of the world. That should slow the spin like a washing machine with a big load of sheets in it. That's what I would do.
Its SciEncE!
Yeah yeah, but Copernicus was a WHITE. MAN.
Well I mean spin around in a chair holding weights above your head. Then lower the weights to the side. See what happens to your rotation, even though everything "weighs the same".
Climate change is a scam, but redistributing weight on a spinning object will definitely affect it's speed of rotation.
Yes, the idea with spinning around and redistributing weight while doing so means: bringing your arms INto your body, means spinning faster.
They are claiming the opposite.
So it still does not make sense.
Yeah, the claim in the article is that ice weight towards the poles has melted which essentially moves the weight away from the poles, and the poles is the center of rotation. So move mass away from the center of rotation and the spinning body slows down. Again I think it's all a scam, but the claim itself makes logical sense
Although the disappearance of the ice has reduced the speed of the planet's rotation, the Earth is still spinning a bit faster than it used to.
So the movie is speeding up?
As I get older, I think time goes faster too. It's very disconcerting. kek
Itβs not just you; I noticed this recently too..
That would make it spin faster.
Ahh back to the emotional pull effect with a picture of an animal supposedly in distress stranded on a chunk of ice.
The polar bear used previously was too busy partying with his mates.
Well I'm sorry people, I REALLY needed my hair to hold that day so I used the AquaNet responsibly.
They should have said the rotation is speeding up. Too many people I know including my own kids say that it feels like time is speeding up.
They wasted a perfectly good opportunity to scare the idiots.
I said to my dad many years (decades) ago now that it seemed as if time was passing more quickly. He told me that time would continue to pass faster and faster as I got older.
I thought: what an idiot, but, as usual, he was 100% correct! The whole of winter just flashed past this year.
Wasn't Christmas two weeks ago?
The moon controls the speed of rotation, ice has nothing to do with it. When the moon was much closer to earth a day lasted 10 hours. As its moved away, the day increased to 24 hours. The moon is still moving away from earth.
They count on our ignorance to move these narratives and why are we ignorant? Because school is indoctrination not education. And then they dull our intellectual curiosity with inane media that peddles smut and drugs and rewrite our books to fit the approved narrative.
That means we have more time now :DDDD
good, I can sleep in.
How did we manage before we plunged into an ice age?
When we have ice at the poles we are in an ice age it is just that right now our ice age is benefitting from an interglacial period. For the last 420,000 years we have cycled between glacial and interglacial periods every 100,000 years or so.
This graph, based on ice core data from Vostok shows the cycle. Note: the timescale is backwards, present is on the left and past is on the right.
If the pattern repeats one more time we will be plunged into a glacial period some time soon and the ice sheets will be covering North America and north Europe once again.
One important detail about that graph: The CO2 changes lag the temperature changes by 600 years or more. That means that the temperature is causing the CO2 to change and not the other way round. Most of the earth's CO2 is in the oceans and when they warm they release CO2 - just like a bottle of beer when it is opened!
Quick! Everyone face west and start running. Maybe we can speed things up.
LOL!
All you bigots not rusting the scionce ...
Does this mean time slows down and I will live to be 400 years old?
Actually, the Earth is speeding up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BdpT7Awfu8
Wow it sounds biblical to me
But yet the days remain exactly the same length....Next.
At one time the moon spun faster than it does now. After millions or billions of years it eventually locked with its face toward us, spinning once as it circles the earth in what is called synchronous rotation or tidal locking. Shouldn't the earth gradually slow also as the same process occurs between the earth and the sun? So it seems we would expect a slowing, but it will take millions or billions of years to obtain synchronous rotation. Just a thought from a non scientist.
Probably comms for Q deltas gonna hit 13 years and we'll still be waiting on the D5.
π€£π π my sides. My sides! Wait. Does this mean that 24 hrs will take longer to pass. Day's are longer. Oh. Ok. Is this part of Biden's plan to make 13 month calendars? I'm so confused.
Kinda like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITx4aFhASTE&ab_channel=woodburypaperguy
