Judge Merchan is allowing the jurors to choose ONE of the three predicate crimes. Jurors do NOT have to unanimously agree on which of the three predicate crimes Trump committed.
Of course, this will make it easier to convict Trump.

One of the three predicate crimes is violations of federal election campaign law yet Merchan wouldn't allow former FEC Chair Brad Smith to testify about it for the defense.

This is not exactly accurate. There's like 3 levels to this
They have to be unanimous on the original crime which is false business records. 1st level
False business records become a felony when used to cover up another crime. 2nd level They have to be unanimous about the second level crime. the second level crime rhey are pointing to this crime

This is not because of Trump. Trump's lawyer admitted in court, the unlawful means need not be unanimous according to new York law.

Prosecutors say the crime Trump committed or hid is a violation of a New York election law making it illegal for two or more conspirators “to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means.”
Merchan gave the jurors three possible “unlawful means” they can apply to Trump’s charges: falsifying other business records, breaking the Federal Election Campaign Act or submitting false information on a tax return.
For a conviction, each juror would have to find that at least one of those three things happened, but they don’t have to agree unanimously on which it was.

I think this is an important question. Seems our whole system of “checks and balances” has a weak spot - the judiciary is not accountable to anyone but themselves, unlike the other branches. Once they’re entrenched it’s hard to remove them, and there’s no periodic review of their rulings and what type of cases they choose. It’s a place where corrupt or subversive elements could get into and hide out

This seems designed to be thrown out on appeal. They know they don't have shit on Trump but their base is struggling to maintain morale, and in my opinion they're just desperate for a win, even if its short lived.
Plus the testimony was Trump was not aware of any of this so the state could not prove intent.
So that's it then, the judge has made up his mind that he's going to put Trump in jail no matter what. What if the jury unanimously agreed that Trump didn't do any of the charges? Is the judge going to hold the jury in contempt of court? By the way, will the stupid frickin' idiots in this country finally wake up when they see that Trump was sent to jail?

I really haven't studied into this debacle about a jury not requiring a unanimous decision, but if it happens, it sets a precedent. A really bad one that might have the DOJ consider it's motive. We will see

This is normal, The jury doesn't need to specify the exact crime generally. They just need to agree that a crime of the same category happened.
