However, when you look up flag etiquette, there is a proper way to burn a flag that is being retired. I rescue old flags that I find in garages, or small ones on the ground, and I take them to the American Legion where they have a drop box for flags. They burn them ceremonially, and with respect. Maybe you should research how the Star Spangled Banner was written. Many, many men gave their lives, just to hold the flag up. When they were killed, more men replaced them. They gave their lives so the flag never touched the ground.
There's no need to get upset. I agree with you. I said it's a respectful way to retire an old flag. When done in protest, that's not a retirement. I have retired many flags myself through the American Legion, including just this past flag day. Had the color guard there and everything.
As for the rest of it, even though it's highly disrespectful, we really don't need more laws from the government. I believe burning it should remain protected by the law, whether done respectfully or not. I also believe burning the LGBTQ flag should be protected by law, whether done respectfully or not. It's freedom of speech in both cases. We don't need or want more government intervention.
Edit: but yes, i know all about the star spangled banner and Francis Scott Key and the heroes that the flag represents. I teach a youth group and we teach that to the kids every year. That, and we teach folding the flag at least once a month and we say the pledge every time we meet. The youth there even got to go see the flag retirement in person this year and had it all explained to them as well. They honestly probably get tired of hearing it, but the adults here want to make sure history isn't forgotten.

I remember when you put out the flag on certain patriotic holidays. I have been flying my flag permanently now since I moved to my house in 2017. No one else on my street does that. But I have made it just part of my landscape. I think it started with the Q posts.
I noticed this when the local deep state put us on a wild goose chase to recall a horrible politician. It should have been a slam dunk, but the walk list they gave us for "republicans" coupled with putting us in an area where the local government had passed a law (a LONG time ago) to make it illegal to solicit OR CANVASS if the house had a sign posted against doing so.
After a bit we started doing houses with American Flags out (and/or pro-Trump signs) and the success rate went up enough that we noticed. Talk to your flag waving neighbors and share links like GAW. We're winning and NCSWIC!

Burning the American flag is an accepted, respectful way to retire that flag. As long as you do it with respect to those that fought for it.

We have a dude that buys the little flags in bulk and puts them in everybody’s yard. I laugh because it’s kinda in your face - not many are removed
