Hello frens....
A little background, late 40s - I began noticing about a year ago that I struggled at times during cardio. I actually work out regularly (3-4 days per week) but cardio was kicking my ass, at times having shortness of breath and such. Would usually have to sit out a few minutes to get my heart rate down again and then start back. My regular doctor sent me to a cardiologist to determine if I'm having heart palpitations and/or irregular heart beats. I believe the answer is yes but I'm going in for a stress test in a couple weeks.
Anyway I've already had some labwork done and basically my LDL cholesterol and such is on the high side, and am also displaying indications of pre-diabetes.
HDL: 42
LDL: 176 (high)
Total cholesterol: 253 (high)
Triglycerides: 176 (high)
Glucose: 124 (high)
Vitamin D: 65
Hemoglobin A1c: 5.9 (indication of pre-diabetes development)
I am not at a point where I'm looking a heart attack occuring anytime soon nor requiring surgery to put in a stent. But I know some of you who have been down this road before, and I'm hoping you can weigh on possible course of action.
I have saved the info that's been posted here before of the 4000mg vitamin C & 4000mg lysine daily doses to be taken for a couple weeks and am inclined to begin doing this immediately.
Calcium causes heart attacks. Magnesium is the balancing mineral.
Your brain is fat (Fat head! LOL) so you need natural animal cholesterol.
Fun fact; Sun light on your skin uses cholesterol in your body to make Vitamin D and lots of other good things for your body.
To lower your cholesterol exercise and get more sunlight.
Good info, I'm going to go sit in the sun right now, thanks for the reminder.
Cholesterol is not really as dangerous as your doctor will have you believe but it’s a good excuse to put you on statins which will likely result in more revenue for them once you get alzheimers (a newfound side effect). I would recommend doing this protocol as it’s pretty harmless and has proven to benefit many with heart and cardiovascular problems.
Hubby and I have been off statins for almost 2 years. I just had my blood tested and the numbers showed me as "high" too. Dr. Barbara O'Neill says the target number used to be 300 until "they" changed it. I told her not to send me another cologuard box but she did anyway. Now we have 4 of them stacked up in my husband's office.
I stopped going to the doctors ever since mine became very “concerned for my wellbeing” after I refused mammograms and not taking her prescribed statins. My guess is she was upset for loosing out on the kickbacks. I saw her “concern” as a threat and walked away before getting send off to the psych ward for “intentionally harming myself”. Doctors are dangerous and can not be trusted. There are a few good ones still around but they are becoming harder to find. At this point I’ve decided to be my own doctor and only use western medicine in cases of emergency.
Same here, except the mammogram part. But I encourage my wife to skip those, seems they can actually cause breast cancer.
Short version, My mom had 70% blockage on a secondary artery. Took 1k mg vit c and Lysine for 1 month (2x daily) , then 1/2 that for 1 month (500 mg each 2x daily). Fast 2 hrs before dosage and 1 hr after (VERY important to fast).
At 2 month checkup blockage was down to 51%. First time in her life a heart problem was better than before. I have a longer version of this if you are interested, just let me know.
It does work and even the Doctor said it was safe. I've been doing it too and yes, it helps a lot.
Yes actually I would like more specific details of what she took because I'm really interested in trying to find a "maintenance dosage" of vitamin C/lysine to take on a regular basis rather than these huge doses after problems have been detected.
So we actually got the regimen off of GAW, but I'll repeat it here. If I can find the bookmark I'll link it for you in another post.
In short, the original poster's father had major heart issues and he had done research on Lysine. They went ahead and did the regimen for several months, and it cleared up most all of his heart issues. Apparently his dad hasn't changed eating habits because he continues to do it for a month every year.
.
Anyways, about 13 years ago my mom had triple bypass surgery after finding ninety eight percent blockage. Then 2 years ago, she had another single bypass with 99% blockage. This last summer they wanted to put in yet another stent for a secondary artery which was at seventy percent. They gave her the option of waiting and said it wasnt critical, and scheduled a two month followup. I had been doing some lysine research, so I finally urged her to at least try it during the two month wait.
We checked with my family physician, and he said it's not going to hurt, It's just an amino acid and the vitamin C can't hurt either, though he did strongly recommend don't take more than three thousand milligrams of either in a single day due to her heart issues.
She agreed to try the Lysine treatment. So we started the treatment like I said before:
The original poster did 2k Lysine, and 2k vit c in the morning, and again at night. We did 1k each morning and night because we were nervous about it. She said it made her feel weird, but not in a bad way, just different. She could tell it was doing something. After a month we went down to 500 mg of each, each morning and night.
The original pster emphasized (and I 100% agree) the most important thing is to fast before and after each dose. I don't remember which, but one of them doesn't work if you eat soon before and the other doesn't work if you eat soon after.
To simplify it, we made it part of the regimen to take them at the same time, and not eat for 2 hours before or one hour after. So, take as soon as you get up and wait an hour for breakfast. Then, don't snack for two hours before bed and take it when you go to sleep. You can drink water during the fasting time.
Basically, if you don't fast, your body will only absorb something like 15% or so, so it isnt nearly as effective.
.
So after the two months, my mom had her check up. Her blockage was down to 51%.
Never once had her blockages gone down in her life. She told them what she was doing, and they cancelled her procedure. They said they would check up with her again in six months and to keep up whatever she was doing.
After a wellness, check I started on it, too. Yes, i had the same weird feelings for the first couple weeks. I've noticed significant improvements in my circulation and overall health. It also got rid of some fuzzy headedness i didn't even realize I had.
About the only caveat is if you miss a dose. Or when you decide to stop taking it, if you're like me, you'll be in the bathroom frequently for the next day and a half., or until you start up again.
The idea is that the lyzine dissolves the plaque build up in the bloodstream rather than it breaking off in chunks, so there's no risk of a heart attack. The extra vitamin c follows up behind the areas uncovered by the plaque and will repair any damaged blood vessels and veins where the plaque had built up.
It's really quite an ingenious, and deceptively simple solution that makes so much sense that it almost defies logic. That was our concern, too. How could something so simple cure what weve been led to believe is a complex issue?
Well, I'm here to say that, yes, it does work once you start taking it and feel it and realize it, it makes total sense.
Biggest takeaway should be do between1k and 2k mg of each morning and night, fast before and after, and don't miss a dose. I recommend staying on the larger dose for 2-4 weeks, before going to a lower dose, but rally i think staying on the larger dose for up to 2 months would really help clean you out.
Also, i would recommend a maintenance dosage of five hundred of each for at least a month or two after that as well, just to make sure you get nice and cleaned out. A family friend of ours said his dad took a thousand a day for his whole life of each.
I took the protocol for several weeks until my stress test showed nothing wrong. (I don't know if I had a problem before I took the stuff.)
By the way, a "stint" is a person's fixed or allotted period of work. You can't put a stint in an artery!
Stent, not stint.
Lysine is the one that you need to fast for.
Oh, I got the lysine and vit c off of Amazon, actually.
SuperiorLabs, L-Lysine, 500mg capsules. Made in USA. ~$20 per bottle/120.
The Vit c can be about anything, but we used: Nature's Bounty, 1000mg caplets, 300ct.
I keep the post open. I am on my 5th week. Preventative only (as far as I know). Feel fine.

Excellent fren, thank you!
Your story is what originally inspired me to help my mom. She's still taking the 1k dose morning g and night, and now my dad is too. Been helping them both.
Thanks for the compliment fren, but this post that I linked is from u/JohnTitor17.
I’m still doing the protocol though without issue. The only thing for me is while I do fast and follow the food recommendations, I don’t always take my 2 doses at the same time everyday.
Same, not the easiest on a hectic schedule. But it seems more that, as long as you keep them reasonably close, that is way more important than actually missing a dose.
u/JohnTitor17
Thanks! I was going to reach out to my favorite time traveler too ;)
Of course Key! 😺
To be controversial, high cholesterol isn't a problem. The blockage are though, and that is probably caused by too much carbohydrates. Cut out carbohydrates and go on a fatty meat heavy diet.
Yeah I do eat meat quite a lot but there are some carbs in there too. Gonna see what sort of food substitutions I can work into my diet to lower my carb intake.
Green leafy vegetables. Lettuce, cabbage, kale, sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli. Use potassium chloride salt. Take magnesium supplement.
You are on the right track trying to nip this in the bud fren. I have been using Berberine for lowering cholesterol for years and it works for me. Keep away from statins in my opinion. Also helps with blood sugar control too.

Me too, Berberine is great.
Citrus Bergamot is another one that will drop cholesterol numbers without side effects!
Erm.
Around age 40 things change. Most people are not made to be Marathon runners, and I am sorry, but most doctors don't know ANYTHING about fitness.
Dr Mercola has some very good tips, however, regarding how to train, what supplements to focus on, and what to eat. BTW.
Don't do 'cardio': you don't need to make your heart beat 'faster'' for extended periods of time. Focus on HIT. (High Intensity Training). This means 3-6 pieces of 20-second bursts of going as fast as possible (try and breathe, but this is anaerobic muscle contraction, and the point is to bring your heart-rate up, only for a bit), and then focus on just 'going through the motions' and breathing deeply, lots. Relax, and catch your breath. If you can measure your heartrate, aim for 150 or so in the peaks (definitely stop if it hits 180), and try to get below 120 before trying to do an another piece. Be patient with yourself.
That's not muh of a workout, if you went to the gym for an hour or more, so lift some weights - try and vary the sets between workouts around your body. So legs one a week etc.
Re pre-diabetes: I have been there. Stop eating carbs. I mean it. Cholesterol levels will drop one you go Carnivore (Keto as a stop gap, but vegetables really aren't necessary, and an cause sugar cravings). in any case LDL levels are a controversial subject. It has never been proven that fat consumption 'causes' heart attacks, at all. It is a theory from when post-mortems found 'fat' around deceased hearts, and they jumped to conclusions (as one is not supposed to do). The conlusion was that eating fat made those deposits.
First of all: Fat is needed by the heart muscle to beat, so most autopsies will have fat there. The heart needs direct energy, not transported (through the blood) energy. Without fat around the heart, you would find parts of the heart being starved out - and poople who starve their hearts (anorexics, or mad Pritikin fanatics), die from heart failure.
I have seen hypotheses, that cholesterol is part of the healing process: it is a sign that your body is trying to repair sugar damage in the vital blood vessels. Sugar has a spiky molecule that scrapes your arteries and micro-injures them. Then, platelets are sent to the site, and cholesterol is circulated as it is meant to be caught in the fibrinogen (nets).
Also, cholesterol and Vitamin D are very closely related. For example, Dr Mercola recommends sunbathing at noon, or using a good sunbed, to convert some of that loose cholesterol into vit D. That an then help with the healing process afterwards, too.
Also don't forget to become really anal about your sleep habits. Make a specific bed-time, and stick to it. If you don't get enough sleep everything goes to pot.
I came here to say this ^^^^
I would add that as well as magnesium (typically 400 mg/day) you need potassium. I sprinkle potassium chloride on my food. Your cells need 4 x as much potassium as sodium (salt). You also need zinc, copper and trace amounts of boron. Read "Understanding the Heart" by Stephen Hussey. Also "Vitamin K2 And The Calcium Paradox" by Kate Rhéaume-Bleue. And "Gut Check" by Steven R. Gundry.
Really that's the suggested max for magnesium supplementation, not total daily intake.
Here's a calculator: https://www.biospherenutrition.co.nz/blogs/magnesium/how-much-magnesium-should-i-take
After seeing this saying I should be getting 600mg/day a minimum I upped my levels and my recurring leg cramps went away. I can always tell when it's getting low as my foot or calf will feel like it's at risk of a sudden cramp if I don't get moving. Also Mg is needed in many processes like testosterone production and I saw my T levels climb by 300 just from getting more magnesium in my diet.
It's 400 mg/day for a typical man and 300 mg for a woman. I'm talking about supplement not daily intake - that's extra. I eat walnuts every day, too. Occasionally, I take it twice if I feel leg cramps coming on. But everyone is different. The body can't store magnesium and some bodies (mine) flush it out quite quickly. You can't easily overdose on magnesium; the body takes what it wants. If you do take to much, you'll have diarrhoea. That's all.
I didn't know about Mg and testosterone, thanks. But I think I'm OK.
Agree with low carb. I listen to a lot of these podcasts from Carnivore and Keto doctors.
Cholesterol will go to your damaged arteries to help heal them from a crap diet with processed food, mainly sugar and carbs turn into sugar. Drs see cholesterol there and give you a pill to try to get rid of the cholesterol! It’s like blaming the firemen for a fire!
If you arteries have repeated damage and added cholesterol eventually they will begging to clog.
If you follow the protocol you may clear the clog but now you have exposed damaged arteries!
See Kerry Mann for YouTube channel homestead how. He has reversed his heart disease with carnivore diet.
I’ve been carnivore for a year and keto for two month before that. Carnivore (zero carb) is best if you have issues.
The sugar and cereal companies paid Harvard scientist to change the study showing sugar as being the cause of heart problems so they blamed dietary cholesterol instead. One of the kids of the original scientists doing the study found the original and put it out. It was all lies.
Works for some and not others. I’d start, no harm in trying.

One of the best markers for an early death is low cholesterol. Conversely, according to this report, People with high cholesterol live the longest.
Reply update: Thank you everyone for all the responses! I am so blessed that I found this community years ago and that there are so many people out there who have real life results to share of better remedies for these kinds of health problems.
I forgot to mention that while at the doctor I could see his computer screen showing my chart/record and he would switch back and forth from that to a online library consulting symptoms of what he wrote down in order to spit back feedback on possibilities of things getting worse, indicators of symptoms, and perhaps more importantly, treatment options specifically prescription drugs. And what do you know?! Statins was the top recommendation!
I immediately knew in my mind that was a big fuck no, I will not take those. About 7 months before my father died, his doctor put him on pravastatin. I know because I handled all of the insurance claims for him for the last 2-3 years of his life and could see the drugs he was being prescribed on his insurance plan.
Anyway I believe I have formulated a plan of what dosages to try and will pursue this treatment on my own outside of what the doctors decides to try next. After about 2-4 weeks I will pay for my own labs and get a lipid panel to see the results. I'll then post an update here.
I had a calcuim cat scan last year to check for any buildup but not before I read about the vitamin D and lysine combo.
I did the combo for two weeks before my scan. I have very high LDL cholestoral (off the charts when not on statin). But have overall normal cholestoral level and high HDL. It;s familial I am told.
My results were I have zero buildup of calcium in any of my arteries. Don't know if it was from the combo I took for two weeks or if it was naturally at zero.
I did get my doc to lower the statins to 40 mg from 80 mg bc I am having some liver damage from it. My AZt went up just over normal when she raised me to 80mg.
So tomorrow I now have a liver scan.
I think I am gonna ditch this doctor. Go off the statins and not worry about it

In 2 months time I reduced my total cholesterol down to 213 from 280. I lost 10 lbs of weight, stop eating cereal, and took a supplement called guggul.

Looks like you are in the correct state of mind. Good D level. no statins. You probably are like most of us Americans that are getting slowly poisoned by our foods. I'm sure it will catch up to me and I'll to get tough on my diet. (Maybe I'm banking on RFK to get us straightened out).. Anyhow, you might try to an elimination strategy which is commonly like a carnivore diet. Simplify. There's probably some chemical in some processed food out there that's reacting bad with your body and causing inflammation and problems. It's going to be hard and I haven't done it myself, but try stripping down what you're ingesting to just like water and meat. See what happens. adjust accordingly.

It wouldn't hurt to start the regimen and may help, but I would continue to follow up with my regular physician/cardiologist. Just know that most Dr's are Allopathic and are pill pushers. HenryTheRed is correct about Calcium/Magnesium needing to be in balance, it is generally a 2:1 ratio. And your Liver makes most of your cholesterol which is very important for many bodily functions. There is some thought among some Naturopaths and Nutritionists that high blood sugar is the culprit in heart disease. Look into Metabolic Syndrome to see if you can get you biodome functioning better, sunshine, proper nutrition and exercise to get your blood sugar back in control may be key. Look up Johnny Bowden and his book "The great cholesterol myth." lots of good information in his books.
What was your high number? Cholesterol meds are a racket.
blockages: EDTA chelation and Plaquex IVs
I strongly strongly strongly recommend Hawthorn (something like Herbal Roots Organic Hawthorn Berry Capsules | Extra Strength 1,200mg per Serving | 60 Vegan Capsules). Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar often mentions Hawthorn as her number one recommended herb anyone should be taking. I recommend her books to learn more but I pulled the below from her instagram.
I have a friend who takes Hawthorne to GREAT effect, and if you check reviews people often say it got them off statins etc.
"Hawthorn may well be the herb supreme for the heart, and a healthy heart is essential to a long and productive life. The flowers, berries, tips of branches, and leaves nourish, strengthen, and tone the heart muscle and its blood vessels. As a tonic fo the heart, it has the amazing ability to either gently stimulate or depress the heart's activity as needed.
Though often not included in the literature, Hawthorn is a wonderful remedy for the "broken heart", depression and anxiety. It is specific medicine for those who have a difficult time expressing their feelings or who suppress their emotions. Hawthorn helps the heart flower, open and be healed!
Use in the form of tea, tincture, capsules, syrup, jam or jelly! General dose is 3-4 cups of tea daily, 1 teaspoon of tincture three times daily or 2 caps three times per day.
Caution: I have found hawthorn perfectly safe to use, however, if you are on heart medication, it is always encouraged to check with your health care practitioner first."
THE other thing I STRONGLY recommend is Motherwort.
My friend with heart/anxiety issues has also had MASSIVE benefits from this. It's a great tonic for heart palpitations and soothes the heart.
There are a lot of great recommendations in this thread.
I’ll add in-
Lumbrokinase
Nattokinase
Serrapeptase
noticing lotta good non-rx stuff in answers here...friend used Red Yeast Rice capsules, and within 6 mos, no blockage, cholesterol good now...i was on statins for decades, and even had drs refuse to refill my other meds if i refused statins...so changed drs couple times, finally took myself off statins entirely...now we are finding out statins cause fatty liver and diabetes in post-menopausal women! am now using liver rebuilding supplements and seems to be working well...fyi, i read statins are the number one most prescribed rx in the country, and research is showing that brains need cholesterol to function properly...good luck in your journey...
If you have ins for meds ,Pick them up but don't take them. Maybe even if you don't have ins might be worth it
ALA is an inexpensive supplement with great results on cholesterol
Couldn't hurt
If all those numbers meant anything then I would not have had a heart attack! My numbers have always looked good. I went to my GP for a physical so I could start working out and everything checked out as good. I had a heart attack 2 years later-widow maker. They put a stent in and 3 weeks later it plugged up.
Get an angiogram. It is the only way to see if you have any issues with plaque in the arteries. If you have high levels of plaque, follow Dr. Esselstein’s diet to remove the plaque. Watch ‘Forks over Knives’ to get the full background. If I was awake after my first heart attack I would never have allowed them to put in a stent. I would opt for an angioplasty and gone home and immediately started the Esselstein diet.
Get an angiogram.

Cholesterol is the precursor to male and female hormones. Working out draws on this for repair and enhanced hormone production which is lost when we age , rapidly. Another benefit of weight training.
