To replace the chickens that were killed you do. Also, as a chicken owner, hens do much better with roosters than without. Their role is multifaceted, not just for fertilizing eggs.
They do if they're going to hatch chicks to replace the ones that were slaughtered. And it takes about 6 months for those chicks to get to egg-laying age.
I was thinking the price of eggs went up because of Biden having millions of egg laying chickens killed because of bird flu. If the cost is going down that's great.
On top of that, lets see if they admit the regs to do it. If a 40k chicken barn comes down with 1 case of bird flu, the entire barn is put down.
If 2 come down with bird flu in a 500,000 bird barn, the whole thing is put down. That is how you easily put down 140 million birds with little effort. 😡
Went up $1.50 in the last 2 weeks in Northern Nevada.
BUT they are more plentiful now.
Gas has been going up so that might be affecting the price (it always goes up when we're transitioning to "the summer blend" of fuel - I hope they knock that nonsense off soon!)
I have never had anything to report on eggs because this entire time my local grocery store that is only an in-state chain has had off-brand eggs for 2.40 a dozen this entire time.
I believe we'll have to wait for mid-summer to see egg prices begin to fall.
Chickens usually start laying eggs around 20–22 weeks old, or six months.
If farmers began incubating chicken eggs after the November election, it would take until at least April until the first of those chickens were able to lay eggs for market. Realistically, June or July would be when egg production might significantly increase.
Pretty sure the companies that raise egg layers saw this coming, the Biden administration has been telegraphing that there was going to be a bird flu the last couple of years. They kicked in to high production when the first group was killed. Those who have their own flock saw this coming as well. We were prepared.
Egg farmers are business people and as farmer/business folk, they are the backbone of this country. Dont they deserve to make as much money as they can? I say pay up for the eggs! This isn't a charity and we dont need welfare!
I paid not quite $28 for a 60 pack at Walmart this last weekend, but that was down $2 on the same package from the previous week. (I’m not buying 60 eggs/wk but I’ve been watching the pricing for a while. This is the first time I’ve seen a drop.)
I order groceries and pick up. Mom eats eggs every day and doesn't care what they cost so I don't pay close attention - eggs here never got expensive like I've read some of ya'll talking about. $3.50 a doz is about what they are - and that's organic, cage free brown eggs.
A few weeks ago I bought An 18 pk for over $11. Then a couple weeks later the price went down to a bit over $9. Then last week I bought eggs for $7 and some change. So, yes, I’ve noticed not only a drop in egg prices but also more eggs on the shelf.
They've been up and down here in the DC area. A couple weeks ago when I re-upped, the brown organic eggs were pretty much regular price while the store brand, Giant, were like $10 a dozen.
Before that I'd paid $16 for an 18 pack. I eat three eggs a day, I usually/used to get 24 packs of Egglands Best for 7 or 8 bucks.
I'm getting giddy to see where they're at next time...
"biden" had the active egg laying hens slaughtered but the farms were already raising new flocks that were around 3 months old when the slaughter happened. So those hens are now coming into egg laying age. Eggs will start dropping rapidly and the left is not happy.
A dozen is currently $4 at my local Walmart. Not sure where all the Libs get their $15/dozen figure from. I’m assuming they are going off of Erewon or Whole Foods prices
See the chart:

Thanks, that's handy!
Don't look at the forecast.
I'd guess that forecast is based on a statistical regression of recent data. That method wouldn't catch changes in supply and demand.
Thanks for the source.
The Trump administration stopped the slaughter of chickens and the roosters have been busy.
It still takes about 6 months from hatching to egg production. We just need to hold out a little longer
Exactly. And I just noticed your call sign. 🤣😎🤣
It is inspired by an old favorite Family Guy scene 😂 1:45 mark
How do we get the price of eggs down?
The roosters are tired, but they suck it up because it is their patriotic duty to fertilize all their hot young hens.
We thank the sacrifices the noble roosters are making.we must send them more worms for them to keep up their strength.
Ze will eat ze bugs & like it!
AHHHHH...to be the rooster to lay that many hens!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
I would've died and gone to heaven to have that job!!!!🤣😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And all the Roosters said,
Okay this thread has gone to the birds.🙄😂
Okay you Fly-by-Nighters...THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT LAUGHS THAT HAVE ENSUED WHEN READING YOU'RE WONDERFUL REPLIES!!!!!!!!!
I'm still 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
According to the label's ,that would be FRESH YOUNG AND TENDER ,lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 awesome!!
You know that they don't actually NEED roosters, right?
I'm sure the Delusional Toxic Feminists would be happy to point that out.
To replace the chickens that were killed you do. Also, as a chicken owner, hens do much better with roosters than without. Their role is multifaceted, not just for fertilizing eggs.
Exactly, Biden wiped out over 100 million egg-laying hens!
Leggo my eggo!
To make more eggs, you need more chickens. To make more chickens, you need roosters.
As sure as eggs is eggs
They do if they're going to hatch chicks to replace the ones that were slaughtered. And it takes about 6 months for those chicks to get to egg-laying age.
Don't need a rooster for eggs....to get chicks yes..eggs no
Further up ☝🏻
"Exactly, Biden wiped out over 100 million egg-laying hens!"
Not really. What I did notice was organic and grass-fed eggs were either cheaper or at the same price as the other eggs.
I was thinking the price of eggs went up because of Biden having millions of egg laying chickens killed because of bird flu. If the cost is going down that's great.
That is the major reason for high cost of eggs.
Not in N. MN.
You getting your eggs from Canada, eh?
No, co-worker has chickens.
I bet they are in high demand!
Not in Atlanta yesterday.
Went up $1.50 in the last 2 weeks in Northern Nevada.
BUT they are more plentiful now.
Gas has been going up so that might be affecting the price (it always goes up when we're transitioning to "the summer blend" of fuel - I hope they knock that nonsense off soon!)
Not in SW Missouri. $5.98 yesterday.
3.99 at Ruler(Kroger) St Charles, Mo
Eggs are dirt cheap here. The other day I got three dozen for like $7
A new chicken can lay eggs in 26 weeks....
a good layer will give you 4-6 eggs a week.
I have never had anything to report on eggs because this entire time my local grocery store that is only an in-state chain has had off-brand eggs for 2.40 a dozen this entire time.
Not here in So Cal.

This past weekend wifey saw $12.85 @doz jumbo FFS.

I got a 60 pack at Walmart for 24 bucks last week

Revisiting this because I just checked egg prices and 60 eggs at our local Walmart are now $24- they dropped that much in a little over a week.
WA state Wallyworld, just paid $26.00 for a 5 dozen box. Was paying $17.00.

Just like with gas/diesel, I rarely look at the price of things. I buy it if we need it and wince at the total when I get to the register.

Nope. Price was up $1.00/dozen when I went shopping on Saturday. But maybe they at least will be going down some soon.
Eggs are usually priced low at Costco.
4.69 a dozen in central Texas.

i bought some free range eggs from the store yesterday. They were 4.83 a dozen
