Hi friends, I am struggling with my sin of Pornography. It krept back up on me after a few years of doing "fine" i need to find the root of this issue. The problem is, im worn down. I want to be obedient, yet i keep falling to my flesh. Whats also difficult is im same sex attracted. While I wont go back to that life, that has still manifested in the form of watching pornography (mostly gay but in the end its all sin so it doesnt matter what type) but im asking for prayer. That God guide me to the root of this symptom, im so broken and I know i can only turn to God. I am just so weak and would love my brothers and sisters in Christ to be in prayer along side me. I can be very harsh on myself when i mess up. I was the kid to throw myself in time out from time to time. It feels like im doing the same thing today, God is telling me dont keep doing it but all is good and im saying no i have to sit in the corner.

Brother, can you explain how it is you think 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 would apply to our brother fighting a sinful behavior that he is choosing to continue to partake in?
In my understanding these verses are Paul explaining how he perceives a physical ailment that is not on him by his choosing and has not been able to be lifted through prayer. A physical ailment where he perceives his suffering is there to humble him into further relying on God’s grace is very different than a battle with a lustful pleasures of the flesh.
In your application it seems someone can find comfort in God’s grace while choosing to continue to sin. I don’t think that’s right.
Please don’t take my comments here as anything but seeking clarification of your application of these verses. If I’m wrong please explain why. I just don’t want our dear brother battling with sin to get the wrong idea.
Edit: Just to clarify Paul’s physical ailments were believed to be migraines or some kind of eye problem.
The verses were simply encouragement to keep fighting the fleshly desires we all face. The shame & condemnation can be as bad as the actual sin & make you want to quit fighting. Forgive me if I sent the wrong idea to him, you or others & thanks for your reply.

Everyone is struggling with something. Challenges shaped us and make us grow quickly, more so than people who are already perfect and have perfect lives. If it's not sexuality, it's drugs, or food, or any type of vices. Just be grateful what you're dealing with is less than others. Just do your best. It's all about discipline afterall. Everyone has their shortcomings and look at the people God uses in The Bible, especially in the Old Testament. Everyone of them has issues. God sees you're trying and He will never stop loving you.
Just do your best. Ask God for forgiveness. Get up and try again. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

P.S My nephew is gay. He's got huge father issue as he is absent from his life. He's also an atheist so nobody can say anything to him. We just pray for him. Idk maybe it's subconscious a need for father's love and approval. Just a tip: Everytime I think of something stupid I say "Get behind me, Satan!" and stay busy, cos sometimes maybe they're not even your own thoughts :O.. we live in a supernatural world and it can be scary. Take up the whole armor of God.

I will try to keep in touch (trying to focus on my relationship with God and not spending hours here refreshing in hopes something finally happening lol). Thank you for the prayer. Yes God was there prompting because I need the prayer more than advice haha. But over all I feel comforted tonight, I know its not my works, but boy do I forget to remind myself. Psalms 69-71 is the prayer I ended up finding for myself in The Word. I share not to boast of myself, im so broken, yet thats where God works best. I share because I want others to know they arent alone in any struggle (unique in your story not your struggle) and I pray someday God get me to a place where I can go to that community and start bringing them to know God, if repentance and acceptance comes from that, amen, but if not thats between them and God. Idk what the journey looks like. All I know is what it looks like to obey my King.
Yes absolutely spend time with Jesus above all. Doesn't have to be all the time. Just get back to me as you feel led. I will be praying for you so it helps to know how to pray. These things are every progressing so prayer needs change as the Lord reveals things to you.
Sounds like you have a good understanding of things. Our pain often becomes our platform. Keep thinking in terms of how this can help other. Jesus definitely wants to use that. U can speak into this situation far better then I because I'm an outside looking in. I can only relate in the spirit and sometimes people see a distance with that. Where as u live it.

Oh I am in the right place. Never stopped going to church being in groups and sharing with them. I just want a little extra prayer, this is tied to a lot of things from childhood till now and going through the work is gonna suck. But my God asked me to grow and be better and so I must keep fighting. Im trying to keep my heart in the right place, I may bend but I won't break.

I will be praying for you. The addiction is real & it is a struggle.
One day at a time & I found in my own life it was a control thing. When I found other ways to control my life better, the urges went away.
I have a buddy that swears by hypnotherapy is the only thing that helped them & was introduced to it via a book called 'Your Problem Isn't Pornography' by Nelson Whiting, and suggests that it is a symptom of a root issue, just like you mentioned.

You are forgiven and loved unconditionally. Remember that always. Put your mind into Gods Word hard. We all get tempted by our own sins and nobody in here is sinless contiually. Only Christ got that achieved. We wait for his return so we can be fully delivered. Focus on tje Son not the sin. Ill be praying for you. For there is therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. God has saved you and he knows your heart. Our minds dont change when we get saved that is part of the work we do. Thank you. Yes. Im remaining in The Word and I still worship Him as always. I find myself singing out songs I know at night, praising Him. I know im forgiven and im not expected to be perfect, I have been in my word more than ever before, with intentionality behind my reading now too. I just have to work on not beating myself up when God says "thats why I sent my son" i just have to dust off and get to work. Thats the hard part haha. Feel much better today and am not going to let my moments of failure keep me from being close to God. I appreciate your kind message.

do not rely on your own strength to fight this “urge” or “challenge” you’re facing. Instead, borrow the strength of God. How so? Through reading The Bible, being at peace, finding joy in worship and prayers, starting new healthy hobbies and staying busy.. in the end you will find that those things are more enjoyable and you will forget about the past and self guilt. Forgive yourself. When you said you sat in the corner beating yourself over it, you’re relying on your own strength. We’re only made perfect through Jesus Christ. On our own and by our own strength or discipline it’s not enough and we’ll never be able to make it. Give Him all your burden. Try fasting as well. The joy of the Lord is my strength.
I think that is correct. Because thats where God is having me go on my own. But thank your for more confirmation in strange ways. Still struggle with the urges but yes. Im finding getting into the word. Singing a verse of a song from service this morning. Im trying to not put up resistance and where any is shown within me I am doing my best to address and repair those portions of me. With Gods help of course.

Glad to be of help and God works in mysterious ways. Our battles make us stronger in the Lord and we always live in gratitude. Even bad things can turn into good. Sometimes we just need to surrender and ask God, "What is it that you want me to learn from this thing I'm going through right now?"
Brother I understand the struggle and what has helped me most with particularly strong temptations is prayer and the realization that whatever it is I’m struggling with is choice of what I love more. The sin or Jesus. Our flesh only is only concerned with itself. Choose to love Jesus more than your sin. When whittled down to the simple decision it becomes easier. God bless you dear brother.

if i may... the root of this must go back to an early time... something that happened that caused you to "open the door" for this to take hold. Prayerfully search out that incident/ event...forgive yourself, ask God to forgive you and free you (from that moment). The REAL key to it all... "enter His Gates with THANKSGIVING, enter His Courts with Praise"... start your day that way... idleness drives towards the perverse in life. Our minds are the battleground, and it plays out in ourselves and our lives. Change your perspective, change your life. Start your day the right way, and guard each day against the idleness that leads to temptation... most find something to focus on. WHEN YOU STUMBLE... for this reason, Christ side was pierced - and out came BLOOD AND WATER... His blood paid the price for you and the waters of repentence (a turning away from -- a concerted effort and intent to turn away from). What is the whole point to life??? to know Him - to be His friend because we choose to be - that is the whole point to man. spend more time talking with, learning of, getting to know Christ (another key - HE isn't what the religious leaders make Him out to be... He hung out with the less desireables of society, and He lived simply - BUT HE WAS NOT POOR, FAR FROM IT ACTUALLY (that is why the Roman soldiers cast lots for His clothes). My prayer for you is simple, that you walk in the Grace of God, find the forgiveness of Christ, search out the root of the injury that opened the door - ask Our Father to forgive you and repair the harm (When we ask, His answers are yes and Amen (if you ask according to His Word and ways)). I'm sure the majority of anons on here have seen p0rn in one form or another (online vids, playb0y mags, etc).
I read an interesting take on p0rn a year or so ago. And frankly it was a valid argument. First, the whole freedom of speech/expression argument plus the "just say no to censorship of any kind".
But then the artform argument was made and it was pretty convincing. I don't remember all the specifics, but talked about naked bodies in art, like the statue of David, etc. That God's greatest perfection was creating the human form and it should not be criminal to admire it. Watching beautiful people in p0rn or in p0rn mags is the same as admiring other works of art. Why is p0rn demonized when the statue of David is revered?
It was a convincing argument and I wish I kept the article. It was well written, not pro-p0rn, but just very logical.
Rebuke any possible evil spirits. Say it out loud in Jesus' name. This helped me in a time of great need and it worked. Think about finding an online community with others who struggle like you. Or a sex-addicts anonymous meeting in your community maybe?

Heart felt prayer requests are a foundation of the Great Awakening. Q talks about Prayer alot. And we are here to grow together. Sharing your heart and asking for prayer is the Great Awakening. The arrest and revealing of evil is just a product of Gods light and love spreading to the world.

Have you tried Celebrate Recovery? It's a Christ-centered support group. It's for everyone with "hurts, hang ups, and habits." Most cities have numerous churches that have the program so you don't have to go to one at your home church. I recommend not going to one at your home church. My church's CR is soley made up of church members. It can get weird sometimes when a member starts acting "holier than thou" in front of the congregation when there's a bunch of us CR members sitting in the pews biting our tongues because we know the different.

Thank you Fren. I actually have done re:generation, very similar set up. Thats what made me turn from that life. Im gonna go through the workbooks again to just keep searching for roots as they come. I just wanted to get some prayer but also encourage anyone else who is going through this that its not easy but its worth it. Thank you for the prayers, I love being able to have people around me and complete strangers be in prayer for eachother. I may not know what struggles everyone is going through but I pray everyone get to know Him.

Thank you. Haven't been focused on the struggle. Focused on God. I have moments of wanting to. But it urges have become more easy to work through when I focus on God in it. Either in the Word or a verse I remeber/lyric from worship on Sunday etc. It helps to see some messages where people are advising but its already where God has me going so its encouragement that im going the right way. Some even mentioned verses or lyrics to worship that I was reading or singing in those moments. Gods letting me know that He is still there next to me.
As much as I dislike the challenges, its a blessing I can go through them.
