ICE agents on Friday arrested the Superintendent of Des Moines, Iowa, Public Schools – an illegal alien from Guyana with a prior weapons arrest.
Having spent quite a bit of time in Iowa, am I the only one who thinks this is the exact opposite of an Iowan? And how exactly does an illegal qualify to become a school Superintendent?
I am a life time government employee. All municipalities enacted mandatory background checks in the 1990s. I’ve been fingerprinted for jobs. Schools must do similar background checks. I can’t believe this guy made it through without proper papers.

Any company doing things "by the books" (as academia is forced to do for a variety of reasons) seemingly needs to hire someone who can prove citizenship, have a ssn, etc. This is beyond shady. Someone needs to investigate this further and find out how he was hired to such a position in the first place. An employer should've caught this before ICE did.
The ONLY scenario I can imagine is that he was hired by the school district prior to his visa expiring, and they never verified it upon promotion within the district. In that case, he might have been hired with proper paperwork but he wasn’t required to resubmit for promotion. A lot of municipalities do not redo the background check once you are in.

I’m in Des Moines today as this happened. I’ve been laughing smiling and giggling ever since. I’ve watched all local news on it. 200 people are currently protesting for his release downtown at the federal building. This includes teachers. It’s disgusting. He had a certificate to be a superintendent from the state. There is likely fraudulent documents involved- that is under investigation. He had a loaded handgun, a decent sized fixed blade knife and $3,000 cash in a Gucci wallet in a Des Moines School District official car. Great day in Iowa!

He has a permanent removal order from a federal judge and no legal work papers. Apparently they didn't do a background check.
He had an unresolved gun charge from 2020 for which he was wanted for arrest. He had that illegal gun at the school and fled arrest with the gun when they came to arrest hm.

Apparently, he worked in multiple different schools over the years. It was in a comment posted on X. So I guess none of them checked his background. 🙄😤😡
